2005 was an awesome contest, yeah. It's up there with 2003 as my favorite.

yeah I had Dante over Vincent, but I never considered a Starcraft character over our the Final Fantasy VII.

Vincent>Kerrigan is the only time I've ever felt bad for the people who called an upset wrong. The board was a lot more vicious to people on the wrong side of history back then.

also I will never forget that RPGuy96 literally only got 1 match right in that entire division and it was Squall > Geno

2007 > 2004 Games > 2005 > 2006 (entirely because of my run of not actually being eliminated in the Guru) > 2003 > Villains (yes, villains) >> The Rest for me. I would say those were the only 6 contests I have much lasting fondness for, and 2006 is mostly because of board stuff more than the contest itself.

2008 Games and 2015 Games are my favorite simply because Games Contests are more fun for me. I won money in 2008 and a game I actually like won in 2015. My favorite entrants generally get demolished before Round 3 so it was a nice change of pace.

I don't get as excited about games contests as most people do.

Then GOTD teased me with the best possible winner and then people literally rallied for plucky underdog Zelda and I will never forgive them for it.

yeah 04 will always be the best. the first month is extremely whatever but the last 10 days or so was off the hook crazy.

GotD would've been fine, good even, but yeah that was by far the worst contest final result we've ever had. I got soured hard on that one.

Division 128 in 2004 is one of the all-time great divisions. The other divisions had one or two memorable matches, but yeah, there were a lot of squashes, especially early on.

GotD was a great contest but I hated the result of every debatable match in that thing. I think Golden Sun was the only brief spot sunshine in that debacle. And yeah, the winner was embarrassing considering the intent of the contest.

GotD 2020 next?

I wouldn't mind something for 2019

Call it an overreaction but I'd actually take Bowser to win that

ALternatively make CB11 and finally release Spider Man and co.

Villains 2 might actually be more interesting than Villains 1 just because the winner isn't obvious.

Kefka might actually live up to his 1 seed this time!

League of Legends is technically not eligible for GotD 2020 because it was released in 2009, despite League being more successful throughout the 2010s than in 2009.

I think they should really change that rule, it's a joke that League cannot be considered as one of the games of the 2010s. It was the most influential game.

Why is Farmville in the bracket lol, also Dark Souls' seeding is so wrong. It should be 1 or 2. Throw in Fire Emblem: Awakening in there somewhere.

I think they should just let OoT into GotD2 since they released the 3DS version a few years ago

And if influence rather than release date matters, Ocarina of Time's influence on modern 3D action-adventure games (games in general really) can't be denied!

League is a far different game than it was in 2009.

GotD is pretty much guaranteed for 2020.

I wouldn't mind a mini-contest for 2019; villains, females or consoles

seriously though we wouldn't miss anything by League of Legends missing a GotD contest because it would flop horribly unless it got rallied and we don't need to see that show again

I think League of Legends would be a tepid low carder nowadays. Seems like it's been around long enough and has enough of a following to be not fodder but the hype train on that thing feels way in the rear mirror.

Smash Ultimate probably beats Skyrim

Also consoles would be fun although it would probably feature the most dominant winner ever

Skyrim barely beat Metroid Prime. A good chunk of games can probably beat it, like Witcher, Smash, KH3 probably too.

2008 should be the lowest ranked Character Battle honestly

that's the most forgettable one to me

I’m biased towards 2008 because of Crono’s run

and also almost winning it if not for that blasted solid snake

I forgot until I looked at that bracket just how bad games 2009 was

But yeah wow that's one super disappointing cookie cutter final

Snake's last couple matches are honestly the main thing I remember about that contest

I actually liked 4-ways in 2007 as a one time thing, and it really was lightning in a bottle. I didn't want it back for another contest, and 2008 just confirmed why.

I remember 2008 for two reasons.

1. Kirby doing well was fun. Kirby > Sonic was cool to see.
2. Pikachu of all characters handling the feared L-Block. To think I was happy to see this at the time.

Oh yeah, Pikachu taking out the Block was a memorable moment. Crono cheating to beat Vincent was another.

Kirby beating Sonic and Seph was cool, too, I guess.

But yeah, I have a pretty good memory when it comes to contests and 2008 is largely a blur. Not quite as bad as 2013 because that thing was too big for its own good, but it's got more memorable results, for better or worse.
