It would be great if a game of its quality, recency and freshness could impress on GameFAQs but I just never trust anything western, especially a shooter, without a good reason. The Last of Us has a lot more going for it than that but we're talking about a 2013 Playstation exclusive. I don't take those kinds of games that seriously unless they're a genre that we support like an RPG. I don't think it has the same intangible quality that a classic game has. That said, it's against a Halo game. Last of Us should hopefully walk through this match clean. Halo 3 beat Super Mario Sunshine but Last of Us should be a step and a half up. Everyone should brace for the incessant whining that will happen when KH2 or Metal Gear beat down The Last of Us. transience's prediction: The Last of Us with 62% Leon’s Analysis Could we see a repeat of Halo 3/Super Mario Sunshine here?! I honestly don’t have a lot of faith in The Last of Us being strong. The obvious parallel to draw is Uncharted since they’re both similarly styled, critically praised, and made by Naughty Dog. Uncharted 2 lost to Halo 1 in GOTD and the series in general has never done too impressively in any poll we’ve seen. What makes The Last of Us that much different from Uncharted 2? That being said, I think it’s a bit lucky it’s facing Halo 3 here instead of the original because I think it’d be in real trouble if that were the case. Plus, I think the Xbox is less popular now than it was in 2010 due to the backlash the Xbone received, so Halo is possibly not as strong as a whole as a result. The Last of Us probably wins, but I don’t think it looks particularly impressive doing so. Kleenex’s Analysis Uncharted games are kind of garbage here. Nathan Drake is a total goober that almost lost to Pac-Man. The Last of Us is not Uncharted, obviously, but I wonder if it’ll suffer the same fate. Halo 3 is probably not the game to beat it, but it might be the first game to embarrass it. If there’s any 2/15 match to get burned on this year, this is it. I am not bold enough to take the bait, but I also won’t be shocked if The Last of Us comes out of the match looking like it has no business being a 2 seed. It probably doesn’t help that a new Halo game just came out last week, but thankfully for TLoU, Halo 5 hasn’t really lit the gaming world on fire. If you go strictly by x-stats, TLoU really only needs to be a hair stronger than Uncharted 2 to win this, and it should be able to match that. I just don’t have a great feeling about the numbers it can put up. The Last of Us with 55% Guest’s Analysis - Xeybozn There really haven't been many site polls featuring The Last of Us. In fact, here's a summary of just about everything we've seen from it: - Based on it's mediocre performances in "most wanted sequel" polls and it's loss to Skyward Sword in the 2013 GotY final, TLoU probably isn't up there with the bigger series in popularity around here. - In fact, the only real feat it has is repeatedly beating GTAV with ease in various 2013 GotY polls, getting 1-on-1 percentages ranging from the high 50s to the mid 60s. Could Halo 3 actually have a shot against such an untested opponent? Are there any comparisons we can make between these two to settle things? Well, we could look at Halo vs. GTA in previous contests to see if it could manage wins like TLoU got. In the 2009 game contest, Halo 1 faced GTA3 and got about 54% of the votes between them in a four-way match. In 2010 game contest, the x-stats project Halo 1 for about 47.5% on GTA3. Obviously, these numbers don't look good for Halo. Now factor in that Halo 3 is less popular than Halo 1, and that the Halo series as a whole has lost a lot of relevence over the five years since we last had a game contest. We just had a poll where more than half of the site said that they had literally no interest in playing Halo 5 at all. I'm not expecting The Last of Us to be a powerhouse, but it should be strong enough (and Halo 3 weak enough) for this match to not even be remotely close. Lopen's Unofficial Analysis Guest: Yeahhhhhh, HALO, MAN. GAME FUEL Huh? Real shame, this. I wanted to pick it, I really did... but in the end I just couldn't muster up enough believe. I remember Master Chief disappointing last time around, and I don't think Halo is the type of game that's going to benefit from any sorta site-wide trend shift. I guess there's a slight argument to be made that Halo has become an iconic series that we no longer hate around here... but even I can't believe it at this point. Doesn't help that The Last Of Us is one of the few new games I have any confidence in. That thing killed those GotY polls, man! I just hope the Halo day vote is still a thing... let me go cry now. H2 campaign was weak, although I respected the storytelling ambition and the risks Marty took with the soundtrack. The multiplayer tho, whew. One of my all-time favorite VG experiences, playing that with friends almost every day after school, over XBL. --- Communists |

really surprised in all honesty. The Last of Us is one of last
generation's biggest masterpieces (or so I've heard), while no one seems

Division 2: Round 1 - Match 9 – (1) Final Fantasy VI vs. (16) Assassin's Creed II Moltar’s Analysis Congrats to FF6 for beating out FF7 in terms of seeding, and for an easy R1 victory. Wind Waker had no problem with AC2 and FF6 is even stronger than that. No way is asscreed making up that gap. Top seeded games have been stomping too so I think FF6 can go high here and make AC2 look really bad. Moltar’s Bracket: Final Fantasy VI Moltar’s Prediction: Final Fantasy VI - 71% Transience’s Analysis Assassin's Creed 2 is an unfortunate 16 seed. It's about equal to the Batman games. It's not on the level of a Ratchet and Clank or a Cave Story. FF6 might end up looking vulnerable here if AC2 can get up to 35% or so -- which is totally possible. AC2 is a well-liked, well-played game, and Ezio would rock any FF6 character in a character battle. FF6 should have a good year though - I have faith, especially after Chrono Trigger went to town two days ago. transience's prediction: FF6 with 69% Leon’s Analysis Assassin’s Creed II got a rough draw here. It got 39% on Wind Waker in 2010. That’s pretty good (also worth taking note of since Wind Waker likely awaits FFVI later on in the division). The series has probably declined in popularity overall in the last five years for a multitude of reasons, but that can actually be beneficial to AC2. The Ezio games could be thought of as “The good old days when the series was great” or something like that. Hard to imagine a game that’s only like 6 years old could benefit from nostalgia, but when Ubisoft pops out games annually, I suppose it’s possible! Of course, AC2 has no chance of beating Final Fantasy VI here, but I think it’ll do well enough to make those people who’ve taken it to win the division start second guessing that choice a little bit. I doubt FFVI has gotten this magical resurgence in strength that those FF polls we had seem to indicate. We’ve seen multiple times in the past that it’s a mistake to try to correlate Favorite Character/Favorite Game polls to actual contest strength (Yoshi winning those Favorite Mario Character polls, for instance). I’d say FFVI doing better in those polls is more of an indictment of FFVII’s continued decline than anything else, but I suppose we’ll see since Allen has set them up to potentially face off in the division finals. Kleenex’s Analysis Chrono Trigger showed us that old Square games can still pack a punch, and today we get to see if that was a fluke or a real shift in the dynamics of this contest. Also noteworthy, this is the first time the entrant has been straight up called Final Fantasy VI instead of Final Fantasy III. Not sure if that will be reflected in the match pic or if it’ll make a difference, but worth nothing nevertheless. Assassin’s Creed II is kind of whatever here. AC fatigue is at an all time high compared to last time we saw it in a game contest, when the series was arguably its strongest and most favorable. FFVI has always been a strong game here, even if the characters leave something to be desired in a contents setting. So the real question is, how high can FFVI go? I personally think around 65% is what it should shoot for to look reasonable. Break 70% and I’ll be impressed, and anything over 75% makes me worry for FFVII in a couple rounds. Final Fantasy VI with 65% Guest’s Analysis - Tsunami Wow...from 6-seed in Game of the Decade to 16-seed in BGE3. Assassin's Creed II performed admirably in defeat against Wind Waker, putting up over 39%, and I'm pretty sure it's the most highly regarded game in the series so the proliferation of sequels should bolster the earlier one rather than overshadow it. It won't get anywhere near that much against Final Fantasy VI, but it'll get enough that people who just look at the seedings and don't know that AC2 was actually respectable at one point in time will be prematurely burying FFVI's chances of upsetting FFVII.
