I feel like Arkham City never reached even Mass Effect 2 levels of respected. And I mean the first two games in the series were good but they were like "fire and forget" kind of good. Nothing really iconic about City. Asylum is a great modern metroidvania which makes it stand out but City is just another sandbox game in a see of Sandbox games. Division 1: Round 1 - Match 4 – (4) Final Fantasy X vs. (13) Half-Life Moltar’s Analysis Here's one more dull match to end the day. HL didn't boom on GameFAQs until 2 came out, and the first game isn't going to benefit from that. FFX would easily take care of HL2, so the original has no shot. Let's see if it can flex its muscles and put up some big numbers heading into what should be a very interesting match with Chrono Trigger later on (spoilers) Moltar’s Bracket: Final Fantasy X Moltar’s Prediction: Final Fantasy X - 64% Transience’s Analysis Half-Life is a well-respected game. FFX, for whatever reason, has never really taken a weaker game to task in the way that I would expect it to. Put those together and I think Half-Life keeps it relatively close. If there's any kind of outside influence, Half-Life could do some wild things here -- not much is beloved on the internet like the Half-Life series and FFX is a pretty easy target -- but barring that, FFX probably takes this. I don't think it goes above a doubling just because I don't have a lot of respect for FFX, but something in the low 60s seems fine. Half-Life has kinda aged out thanks to HL2 and I worry that it might just collapse from irrelevance, but I don't think FFX capitalizes. This is a game that could only double FFTA! transience's prediction: Final Fantasy X - 65% Half-Life: 35% Leon’s Analysis If this were Half-Life 2, there might be something worth discussing here, but the original Half-Life just doesn’t have that level of popularity. There’s a reason why GFNW was a thing before Half-Life 2 came out! Half-Life couldn’t even beat FFIX with Chrono Cross in the poll weighing it down, so it’s got no shot against FFX. I’m not sure what would be a “good” number for FFX to shoot for here to look good in its upcoming showdowns (barring weird rallies ruining all these matchups, I guess), but it should win easily regardless. Leonhart’s Vote: Final Fantasy X Leonhart’s Prediction: Final Fantasy X with 64.60% Kleenex’s Analysis Remember that time the original Half-Life did anything significant in any of these contests? Remember that time when people still remembered Half-Life for something other than ridiculous Half-Life 3 conspiracy theories? Not even Pepperidge Farm remembers those. Final Fantasy X with 66.67% Guest’s Analysis - Bane_Of_Despair You have no idea how happy I am to have FFX be the first match that I get to guest on for this contest. Like wow. Anyway, this isn't really a match is it unfortunately? I do love me some Half-Life 1, but I can't imagine anyone having it winning over FFX. Let's see, I guess I should put some history. Half-Life 1 got 43% against Metroid Prime in 2004. Ok, not a total blow-out. But that's over 10 years ago. I can't even be bothered to see or remember what it did in 2009. I don't think time would help Half-Life even with the Black Mesa remake. And even Half-Life 3 hype (it's still there right? Somewhere?) would benefit Half-Life 2 way more than Half-Life 1 I would think. And all of that isn't even factoring in the powerhouse that is FFX. So this is more a match about seeing FFX making a big entrance and showing its power. Like it has to put up pretty big numbers to more safely secure it in its much larger match against Chrono Trigger and beyond. FFX with 69.44% and I could even see it go like 72% or so. I'll throw my two pence in too if it's alright with you guys: CT/Ratchet & Clank 3: R&C3 barely held 30% on Golden Sun in GOTD, which despite avoiding the doubling against FFX is hardly an elite game, so it's going to get tripled here unless CT has fallen off a cliff. Still, it's a respected game and should be very tough to beat down into the sub-20s region. Wonder if the extrapolation through Golden Sun will give a hint towards FFX/CT in round 3. Dragon Quest VIII/Persona 3: This all PS2 JRPG 8/9 match is quite fun for me, as I rather like both of these games. I also feel confident that Persona 3 is the bigger deal here, even if DQVIII did pretty well in holding 38% against Chrono Cross in GOTD. Persona's just been the livelier series since 2010 - check out Persona 5 almost edging MGSV in this year's hype poll. I expect DQVIII will hold up well, significantly better than against Chrono Cross, but never threaten to win. 55/45 or so sounds right. Batman: Arkham City/Mega Man X: You can do some fancy extrapolation on Mega Man 9 through Okami and Metroid Prime to show that Arkham Asylum would probably not have broken 60% on it in GOTD, and I'd take X to be much stronger than 9, given its high playrate and Mega Man X, the character's, high popularity on the site. If it doesn't at least make this a barnburner I'd be very worried about old games holding up later on. I see it winning in the mid-50s. You can argue that Batman is a much bigger deal now than it was back in late 2010, but I doubt it. FFX/Half-Life: So Half-Life got 60/40'd by FFIX with Chrono Cross in the poll back in '09, and it was probably more relevant then. FFX went 63/37 against FFIX in 2010, but who knows how much SFF was involved (I tend towards "less than you'd think"). Don't expect much from it. FFX broke 70% on Morrowind and I wouldn't even be completely confident that Half-Life could beat it, so it should be reaching for the high 60s here. --- We are living our lives Abound with so much information |

see Lopen went even higher than I did in the Oracle on CT. There is
still the ASV of course, it will be interesting to see how much the
power of the ASV has fallen with the aging of the site and shift to
