Oh Link vs Solid Snake? Neat. Lopen's analysis: I think that this year Snake was legitimately stronger than Link, and that this whole Draven nonsense denied us the pleasure of seeing it happen-- this is a nice token gesture though. Why do I think this? Snake held up better vs Draven until Draven went ultimate on him, and we've seen Link show signs of weakness throughout the contest. And Snake has just looked untouchable. Beating two Pokemon at once is pretty impressive. It looks slightly less impressive after Mega Man almost did it but I think there was some weird SFF thing at work there. Also any rally intangibles probably go in Snake's favor here, but I don't think he's going to actually need them in this one. So yeah, Snake wins. It'll be slightly less cool than it would be in a legitimate setting, but will at least maybe convince Bacon that he doesn't need to throw in 17 original herbs and spices into the bracket to try and rig Link to lose. Lopen's prediction: Solid Snake with 52.61% --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Hi there, folks! After the conclusion of our completely legitimate Character Battle, we are getting a real treat tonight: our perennial CB Champion, Link... against Solid Snake the sole Noble Niner he has never faced in 1v1 combat. Now, I can see some of you reaching to touch that dial! "Oh man, Karma Hunter's going to take Snake as an upset ha ha how unexpected." Firstly, I'll have you know that... yes, you're absolutely right. Also, more importantly, SHUT UP. You all know the deal by now. Link is untouchable. Arguably the #1 character in every single year, including the ones where he's lost. Even his 2010 anti-vote saddled ultra-weakened self gave Cloud one of the biggest beatings of his life, though admittedly that had more to do with Cloud than Link. Snake... had a hard life. And an even harder contest history. Some of you aren't old enough to remember, but back in 2003 people picked the likes of Magus over Snake. After 2004, Zero was considered to be above him by many. In 2005 it all came to a head, as Zelda and Bowser were considered ridiculously sexy upset picks over him. To top it all off, he has to suffer a humiliation or two every year at the hands of his sprites, which bring him from his Noble Nine self down to the level of near-elite or even midcarder strength. And yet, here we are. There is little dissent that Solid Snake, once considered to not even be an elite character at all, is the #2 character on this site. But now he faces off against Link. #1 > #2, right? It gets worse. After Link's heartbreaking loss to Draven, he singlehandedly went from tyrant to savior. His anti-votes? All but gone. He is super-charged after being dealt a loss for the first time in half a decade. Nothing to discuss, right? Well, I'm about to tell you why Snake can win tonight. Snake Has Put on Contest Winner Performances This Year. Outperforming Link's projections against Isaac. Outperforming Link's direct percentage on Alucard. Snake has looked golden in all his matches this year - the only one where he didn't look like a godslayer being where he had Sprite Snake representing him in 25% of his match pics. MGSV Hype is real and Snake is stronger than ever because of it. We are looking at the most powerful Snake we've ever seen. Snake Put on the Most Impressive Performance in Contest History I mean this - forget Link/Shepard/Draven. Today's final score is deceptive, because Snake did something even Link should be envious of. Link got close to Draven with the assist of a rally reload, the detriment of downtime, and most of all, the GameFAQs vote almost 100% united behind him as he squashed a midcarder with LPF. Snake had to take on Draven, on LoL Worlds Day, with arguably the #3 Character on the Site holding him back. And he still would have won it if not for being screwed.
