Hey everyone, it’s Contest time again! That means the Contest Analysis Crew is back once again!

Our goal is to analyze and predict each match in this Contest, and of course, you will read the write-ups and laugh at us when we’re wrong. So without further ado, here’s the line-up for this Contest.

Solid Snake/GlaDOS/Kefka - Luster Soldier
Cloud/Squirtle/Leon - paulg
Pikachu/Sora/Blue - betryedtangerin
Samus/L-Block/Tifa - Luis
Vivi/Squall/Red - Bane
Mega Man/Zero/Charizard - Tsunami

KP: We've finally arrived at Allen House. Our journey is almost over.

Moltar: I still want to know where you guys got those airships and weapons from.

Kleenex: I told ya, they just showed up outta nowhere.

Tran: IT DOESN'T MATTER. LET'S GO DELIVER THAT LONG-AWAITED JUSTICE TO ALLEN.

Moltar: Yeah, it's time to put an end to this.

Leon: Put an end to what, exactly?

Lopen: Can this even be considered the end?

Leon: Or merely another beginning...

KP: You two again?

Moltar: What do you want now? I don't have time for your riddles. I've got a contest to predict and the guy I need to talk to is right behind that door.

Lopen: Talk to? With airships and weapons?

Tran: IF HE AIN'T GONNA LISTEN TO OUR WORDS THEN HE'S GONNA LISTEN TO OUR ACTIONS.

Leon: Say Lopen, do you know what happens next?

Lopen: I actually don't, Leon. This is all new to me.

Leon: Perhaps we should accompany them to see how this little story ends.

Lopen: I quite like that idea.

KP: Does that mean you're joining our little party? If so, that's wonderful news. We'll need all the help we can get.

Moltar: I still don't trust them all that much, but whatever, I'm opening this door.

Kleenex: Open it! Open it so I can see that false idol face-to-face. Open it so I can look into his eyes as I make him feel what he has done to my people, our people, all because of these contests.

Tran: OPEN IT! HE MUST FACE RETRIBUTION FOR THE WRONG DIRECTION THESE CONTESTS HAVE GONE IN!

Leon: Open it.

Lopen: For the answer that we have been searching for.

KP: It's time. Open it, Moltar.

Moltar: Geez guys, I heard you the first time. Alright, here we go...

Allen: Welcome, users.

Moltar: Allen, you better listen up because we've got some words you'll want to hear.

Division Final: Round 3 - Match 112 – (1) Solid Snake vs. (2) GlaDOS vs. (7) Kefka

Moltar’s Analysis

Snake
Round 1 - 71.21% vs. Isaac (GS) and Keen
Round 2 - 60.57% vs. Alucard and Bayonetta

This guy actually looks like a Noble Nine character

GlaDOS
Round 1 - 58.72% vs. Cole and Ragna
Round 2 - 44.92% vs. Epona and Ike

Took advantage of that Nintendo split

Kefka
Round 1 - 37.82% vs. Zack and Ryu H
Round 2 - 41.93% vs. Altair and Lara

Kefka looks good again.

Snake > Kefka > GlaDOS is probably the biggest lock of the round. Their contest performances so far also support this result so there shouldn't be anything wacky here. Save the upsets for these upcoming matches.

oh wait I forgot whose write-up is right below mine

Moltar’s Prediction: Snake: 48% - GlaDOS: 22% - Kefka: 30%

Lopen's prediction:
LAUGHING KEFKA - 35.66%
Solid **** - 34.14%
Cake - 30.20%

Leonhart’s Analysis

This match seems pretty straightforward, although nothing about this contest has been straightforward lately, so who knows! Rotating match pics instead of a sprite round pretty much kills whatever outside shot Kefka had of scoring a crazy upset here. It’s kinda sad that this match is kinda meaningless because even Snake putting up yet another Link-esque performance doesn’t really matter anymore! I feel pretty good about Kefka getting second here, too. I’ll take 60% on Altair and Lara in a day match against 60% on an LFF’d Epona in a night match. But again, who knows! I feel like I’m just trying to fill space now!

Leonhart’s Vote: Solid Snake

Transience’s Analysis

I've seen a bunch of hype for Kefka and I just don't see it. He's boosted more than usual and he's finally got a decent set of pictures for the first time in his contest career, but that doesn't mean he can get anywhere near Snake. Beating Hayabusa with 55% and Altair with 59% doesn't make him some kind of godslayer. I'll take him over Glados but not by a lot.

Snake's the godslayer here. I've felt for a while that he's the #2 character in this contest after Link. If something happens to the Draven goon squad, he could legitimately win this contest. I'm looking for another solid performance despite people trying to give him sprite pictures for god knows what reason.

transience's prediction:

Snake with 50%

Kefka with 27%
Glados with 23%

Guest’s Analysis - Luster Soldier

Solid Snake easily wins this match assuming no crazy stuff like rallies or pic sabotage. Though with this match having 6 or more pics, trying to sabotage Snake with Solid S*** would have very little impact on him. With how crazy the contest has been since Draven's round 2 match, a Kefka upset could happen, but very unlikely since there's no one leeching Snake like there was for Mario. And Snake has been a beast this entire contest, managing to break 70% on Alucard.

Kefka likely has no trouble with GlaDOS at all, having a more impressive performance in round 2 and tougher competition to deal with compared to what GlaDOS had to face. GlaDOS was also slightly overrated from taking advantage of Nintendo LFF.

Luster Soldier's Bracket: Solid Snake
Luster Soldier's Prediction:
Solid Snake - 52.22%
GlaDOS - 20.84%
Kefka - 26.94%

Crew Consensus: Snake slithers on

Solid Snake (Japanese: ソリッド・スネーク Hepburn: Soriddo Sunēku?), real name David (デイビッド Deibiddo?), is a fictional character and the protagonist of Konami's Metal Gear video game series created by Hideo Kojima. In the Metal Gear games, Japanese voice actor Akio Ōtsuka provides the character's Japanese voice while actor and screenwriter David Hayter provided the character's English voice for many appearances.

Introduced in Metal Gear in 1987, Solid Snake is a combination of spy, special operations soldier, and FOXHOUND who is tasked with disarming and destroying the bipedal nuclear weapon-armed mecha Metal Gear. Controlled by the player, he must act alone, supported via radio by commanding officers and specialists. While his first appearances in the original Metal Gear were references to Hollywood films, the Metal Gear Solid series has given a consistent design by artist Yoji Shinkawa alongside an established personality.

Kefka Palazzo (ケフカ・パラッツォ Kefuka Parattso?, romanized as Cefca Palazzo in the Japanese version) is a character in the Final Fantasy series of video games. Originally designed by Yoshitaka Amano, he appears in Final Fantasy VI as a clown-like, nihilistic psychopath who acts as the game's main antagonist and as the God of Magic, physically transforming into a Lucifer-esque fallen angel.

He is present in the spinoff fighting games Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, wherein he is voiced by Shigeru Chiba in Japanese and Dave Wittenberg in English. He also appeared in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Artniks, and Final Fantasy: All the Bravest as an enemy boss. Kefka has been rated one of the most memorable and evil video game villains ever created, with critics and fans noting his intense hatred and maniacal laughter as defining characteristics. He has also been compared to the Joker from Batman.

GLaDOS (/ˈɡlædɪs/ GLAD-o-s),[1] short for Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System, is a fictional artificially intelligent computer system and the main antagonist in the video game Portal as well as the first half of its sequel, Portal 2. She was created by Erik Wolpaw and Kim Swift and is voiced by Ellen McLain. She is responsible for testing and maintenance in Aperture Science research facility in both video games. While she initially appears to simply be a voice to guide and aid the player, her words and actions become increasingly malicious until she makes her intentions clear. The game reveals that she is corrupted and used a neurotoxin to kill the scientists in the lab before the events of Portal. She is destroyed at the end of the first title by the player-character Chell but is revealed to have survived in the credits song "Still Alive".

The inspiration for her creation extends from Wolpaw's use of a text-to-speech program while writing lines for the video game Psychonauts. Other Psychonauts designers were finding the lines funnier as a result of the text-to-speech voice. GLaDOS was originally intended to be used in the first area of Portal; she was well-received by other designers and her role was expanded as a result. Play testers were motivated to complete tests in the game due to her guidance. While the game was originally designed to have other characters, they later decided to remove them and leave GLaDOS as the only character players encounter.

For some reason, my e-mail is being dumb and not letting me send anything, and I'm not going to be here later, so I'm going to cheat a little bit and post my writeup now. Feel free to copy it if you want!

Leonhart's Analysis

Under normal circumstances, Cloud wins going away. This contest isn’t normal circumstances anymore though. Sephiroth winning the other day looks good for Cloud, especially since he did FFVII’s customary slow rise throughout the entire match. This thing being 24 hours might be what saves Cloud in the end. Leon Kennedy folding and not holding strong like Big Boss did would be good for him, too, since that means Squirtle needs more percentage to win. The less percentage Squirtle needs to win, the worse this is for Cloud. But like Seph showed, he can still win anyway.

I’m just glad this isn’t Blastoise here now because the MEGA BLASTOISE reveal yesterday would’ve sealed the deal here!

Leonhart’s Vote: Cloud Strife

Leonhart’s Prediction:

Cloud Strife – 40.00%
Squirtle – 36.00%
Leon Kennedy – 24.00%

Division Final: Round 3 - Match 113 – (1) Cloud Strife vs. (5) Squirtle vs. (4) Leon Kennedy

Moltar’s Analysis

Cloud
Round 1 - 66.06% vs. Prinny and Armstrong
Round 2 - 49.47% vs. Frog and Lugia

Cloud what happened

Squirtle
Round 1 - 59.47% vs. Ramza and JC Denton
Round 2 - 44.08% vs. Dante and Zidane

Dante what happened

Leon
Round 1 - 51.21% vs. Wesker and Oliver
Round 2 - 39.73% vs. Gordon and Shadow

Leon did ok.

Seph/Kirby showed that while the gap has gotten a lot smaller, FF7 can still win matches against solid competition. Still, Squirtle has looked stronger than Kirby, and Pokemon has been tearing through the bracket. Pikachu beat Crono, Mewtwo embarrassed Sonic, and I think Squirtle has a good shot at beating Cloud (it will take a huge start and a concentrated day-long rally, but I wouldn't put it past Pokefans to pull it off).

I'm not going to take it though because every upset I try to call doesn't end up happening. You can thank me later when Squirtle wins.

Moltar’s Prediction: Cloud: 40% - Squirtle: 38% - Leon: 22%

Lopen’s Analysis

Not sure what to make of this match. Seph looked pretty good when the going got tough, and Cloud could too. On the other hand, PokeFAQs.

All I know is, the only time Pokemon has shown mercy is when I've picked it, thusly I must offer a sacrifice to the Pokegods so that Squirtle will relent.

Please, Exalted Kappa Squirtle, accept this humble offering of prediction percentages exceeding 40%. I come from a poor village, low on sacrificial idols and virgin maidens, and as such it is all I can give you. Please do not take the youths Cloud and Leon. They are strong and will later become the primary hunters and gatherers of our village.

Lopen's prediction:
Exalted Kappa Squirtle - 40.55%
Cloud Strife - 37.23%
Leon Kennedy - 22.22%

Kleenex’s Analysis

This match looks a lot like the Sephiroth match to me. Cloud is stronger than Sephiroth. Is Squirtle stronger than Kirby? They both stand out a ton in their pics, they both have the potential of getting some kind of bandwagon and they've both beaten Dante! Pokemon fans are definitely a lot more rabid than Kirby fans, but I think the gap to Cloud is a lot to make up. He does have a lot of intangibles working for him, for sure, but I really do think that the distance is a bit too far to make this happen. So of course that means it'll happen.

Kleenex's Prediction
Cloud with 39.00%
Squirtle with 36.00%
Leon with 25.00%

Transience’s Analysis

I was ready to pick Squirtle to beat Cloud in much the same way that I was ready to pick Kirby to beat Sephiroth. Sephiroth held up pretty well in a 24 hour match, though, and I'm not convinced that Squirtle is quite on the level of a Cloud or a Sephiroth. Yeah he beat Dante badly but Dante also struggled to beat Zidane. As far as I'm concerned, he's fallen from grace. Usually when Dante chokes, it's a close match. Squirtle just destroyed him.

On top of that, I view Charizard and Squirtle on somewhat equal ground, kinda like how I view Tifa/Vincent/Aeris or Ganondorf/Bowser/Zelda. Charizard struggled to beat Zelda (and probably needed outside help to finish her off) and there's no way I'm picking Zelda over Cloud.

transience's prediction:
Cloud with 49%

Squirtle with 37%
Leon with 14%

Guest’s Analysis - PaulG

Well this doesn't take a genius.

SEPHIROTH'S GONNA ADVANCE FURTHER THAN YOU, LOL - 35.92%

If it weren't for Draven, it would be completely reasonable that the final 5 could be:

Mewtwo
Squirtle
Red
Charizard
L-Block
---
~War~

Nobody of the crew picked L-Block to win in the final match of 2007? That is amazing.

Most of the crew supports Squirtle but they picked Cloud to win.

A rule of the crew is that even when they expect a result they dislike in a debated match, they will refuse to take it.

None of the crew took L-Block in the finals of 2007!

go look at the archives

anyway, Pokemon beating Cloud straight up is kind of distressing - and I had this upset for a while!
