I don't even know how one goes about trying to analyze this. Analyzing where ? Block ends up is next to useless. He's been in a bonus poll where he beat L-Block, who beat Link. That much right there tells you how up in the air this is.

Tidus/Missingno may be a clue at how this goes. In that match, Missingno started out strong, but Tidus caught up. In the end, Missingno only won due to a late rally. This joke character vs. FFX character match could go the same way. Cube not doing all that well also shows that joke characters have been struggling.

Rikku is weaker than Tidus, but who knows if ? Block is stronger or weaker than Missingno. I'd actually argue it could be stronger since that block from Mario is far more known than that Pokemon glitch among gamers.

Jokes don't have static strength though, so it all depends on if ? can jump to a big enough lead at the start and get rallied if it ends up close. Might as well just coinflip it.

Lopen’s Analysis

I'm pretty sure when you hit your head on this ? Block, what's going to come out is ass.

I'm skeptical how much people cared about it to begin with-- I feel it only won the bonus match because it was the Nintendo option in the poll, and legitimately it has very little strength. Unlike with the Tetris piece this thing isn't the only or even the best thing to associate with Mario. It's a bit better than piece of FFVII furniture, but probably weaker than Buster Sword.

Toss in the fact that Cube looked bad and I feel like people really feel like this inanimate object nonsense is pretty stale. Lyndis beating ? Block seems more likely than ? Block beating Rikku at this point.

In fact I'm picking that. Because well, I need to make up ground somewhere and I feel this upset is very much a viable one at this point. Anyone who's outside the top tier of the EXPERT Mode may want to consider this as well. Then again... just picking Rikku might get you some ground, since some people will probably foolishly stick with ? Block for 1st.

After Tidus/Missingno, does anyone still have confidence in ? Block to win this match? Rikku has repeatedly proven that she’s right around Tidus’s level in the past (and maybe even a little higher), and I just don’t trust ? Block to be better than Missingno. I guess the one factor in its favor is that this is ? Block’s first real contest appearance, and jokes tend to do much better their first time around. Still think Rikku wins this one fairly easily though. I’ve heard people say Lyndis will hurt Rikku because she’s a female RPG character, but I feel like that’s just looking for LFF in places where it doesn’t exist just for the sake of it. Just because characters have some basic things in common doesn’t mean they LFF each other, guys!

? Block is a huge trap. This thing has gotten a decent amount of talk pre-contest and I think it's totally unwarranted. Yeah, it beat L-Block in a bonus poll. The only think that tells me is that this site is very fickle when it comes to joke characters and will abandon them when they don't think they're funny anymore. ? Block occupies the same space as L-Block, and that train pulled out of the station 6 years ago. There's nothing new or unique about it, and it's got a crappy 3D picture to boot. This thing isn't going anywhere, and I bet it comes close to losing to Lyn, if not losing outright.

So first Block beat Link. Then Block beat Block. So Block wins here? Nah.

I think GameFAQs is just about reaching the end of it's tether with joke entries and 'non-characters', and I say that regardless of what's going on in the current match with Cube. I wouldn't say it's a backlash of sorts, but rather the brackets become oversaturated, and it's reached the point of "Man, really? Another of these things?"

Obvious comparisons have been drawn to Missingno/Tidus here, but unlike the glitch, the Block doesn't have legions of Pokefans in it's corner who'll vote for their series over more or less everything else in the bracket. ? Block isn't even particularly funny, it was included in that bonus poll in 2007 because really, how many noteworthy inanimate gaming 'things' are there?

If it wasn't already obvious, I'm taking Rikku, and without breaking too much of a sweat. She's always been decent, without being spectacular, but decent is enough here, and being from a well-liked game in this scenario doesn't hurt either. Lyndis is pretty much "happy to be here".

I've got some good experiences associated with Missingno. Abusing the glitch, trading information on it with friends like it was some sort of forbidden black magic, catching him in a very certain way so he wouldn't screw up my game data...fun times. But ? Block...if we had never seen ? Block's original poll, I would've taken it to do a lot worse here. It's just hard for me to imagine someone actually voting for it when there isn't a weird bandwagon thing going on.
