Division 9: Round 1 - Match 76 – (2) Zero (MMX) vs. (17) Kratos Aurion vs. (26) Boko Moltar’s Analysis Zero (MMX) Kratos and Boko can't block the lightning loops Kratos A Like son, like father? Boko HorseFAQs beats BirdFAQs Zero crushes these guys obviously. The only question is if Boko will act as a chocobo/FF proxy or not. Midgar Zolom certainly didn't, but Boko has a much better chance of doing so with the closer name and more generic design. However, Lloyd looking good in his match also probably means Kratos might look alright here as well. Having Zero in the poll as well does not help his chances, but he does have dedicated fans, and I don't think they'll abandon him because of a chocobo. Moltar’s Prediction: Zero (MMX): 60% - Kratos A: 24% - Boko: 16% Lopen’s Analysis I think 1v1 the chocobo probably beats Kratos just by being a chocobo, but with Zero here to sponge the "hey I know that guy" votes I just don't think enough people actually care about Boko for him to win second place. Lloyd looked good earlier so Tales of Symphonia, while probably not at peak form, is still far ahead of the Vyses of the world, which should be enough to scrape by with second place here. Lopen's prediction: Zero - 57.00% Kratos Aurion - 24.74% Boko - 18.26% Leonhart’s Analysis Another match where first place is obvious. Zero’s got this on lockdown. I think a lot of people expect Boko to get second place because he’s a chocobo, but I think he’s going to flop. I think just a generic chocobo would do better here, and Boko being a specific chocobo will hurt him, especially being a specific chocobo from Final Fantasy V. I’ve heard people say that’s silly, but would you guys expect Goombella or Goombario from Paper Mario to do just as well as just plain “Goomba” would? Of course not. Plus, Kratos Aurion isn’t quite as bad as people believe. He’s on the higher end of the fodder scale, so I think he’ll take second here. Kleenex’s Analysis I love FF5 and even I don't understant Boko. I wonder if he'll just act as a surrogate for a generic Chocobo, in which case he might do well. Zero wins here because he's Zero. The other Kratos...I guess he could lose to a Chocobo. Sure, why not. I mean, he couldn't beat Sackboy, so why not lose to the mascot creature of the second most popular series on the website. (insert joke) Slime didn't show a lot of power and no one ever got behind Mog. Generic enemies have never done all that good unless you're from Pokemon. Boko's probably weaker than Gilgamesh. So is Kratos Aurion these days though. Division 9: Round 1 - Match 77 – (5) Lenneth Valkyrie vs. (14) Claptrap vs. (23) Weighted Companion Cube Moltar’s Analysis Lenneth How did this get a 5 seed Claptrap The strongest Borderlands character? This is it? Cube Another joke, another win Like with L against Teemo and Palutena, joke characters have some legit strength and will easily win against weak opponents. Lenneth and Claptrap meet that qualification. Claptrap surprised some people by not doing too badly in 2010, but Cube is probably around Zidane's level as a midcarder and not in much danger of dropping this match. The real question is which of these sucks worse, 25% on Rikku or 35% on Zidane. The answer is who cares. There's been some talk of Lenneth looking good here because she's the only real character or non-joke option, but I think she's just too obscure for that. Borderlands is far more relevant these days on this site, so Clap probably takes second. Moltar’s Prediction: Lenneth: 20% - Claptrap: 30% - Cube: 50% Lopen’s Analysis Whoops forgot about this. WCC wins. Taking Lenneth for surprise upset because I think WCC SFFs Claptrap. They're both quirky box looking things and from weird FPSes Look into your heart you know it to be true. Lopen's prediction: WCC - 49.85% Lenneth - 26.30% Claptrap - 23.85% Leonhart’s Analysis What a weird match, although the ordering should be pretty obvious barring a big drop in strength from the Cube. Lenneth got tripled by Rikku once upon a time. People just don’t know who she is, so she’s going to be weak. Claptrap did better than expected against Zidane in 2010 and while Borderlands is decently popular around here, it’s not as popular as Portal. Whew, the end of round 1 is in sight. Kleenex’s Analysis Lenneth Valkyrie got a 5th seed in this contest, as a certain stats topic regular has so lovingly reminded us over and over across the past couple days. It's funny because she may very well get last place here. Cube should win it, though. Even though Portal isn't super hip and cool anymore, the cube probably has the popularity to beat these other two. Claptrap is an odd one. I think Claptrap is awesome, but the Borderlands fanbase seems to be pretty split on that. Lenneth...got 25% on Rikku. That's pretty bad! But you know what else is pretty bad? 35% on Zidane. For some reason my gut's telling me to go with Lenneth for second place. Not sure why, but let's do it. Kleenex's Prediction Lenneth with 28.00% Claptrap with 24.00% Cube with 48.00% Transience’s Analysis This match is really weird to me for some reason. I mean, Cube beats Claptrap beats Lenneth, but just the combination of these three guys is a weird mashup of 'characters'. I can't even formulate an argument about it. Let's just go to the numbers part of this writeup. transience's prediction: Cube with 46%, Claptrap with 36%, Lenneth with 18% KP's Analysis Lenneth vs. Claptrap scares me. People don't like Claptrap, he didn't look very good against Zidane, and he shares a lot of similarities with the Cube. I wouldn't be surprised if their voters have some sort of overlap. Meanwhile, Lenneth is ridiculously old and did awful against Rikku...in the Female Contest. She also somehow got a 5 Seed, I guess that means something?!? I'll side with Claptrap here just because of rally/'rally' potential. Borderlands people are weird and will probably side with their stupid little mascot.
