sent my analysis in fresh off of Cirno's awful start, and I made some
adjustments because of that. After seeing the way that match ended, I'm
going back to my original percentages. Add 2% to my Marisa prediction

I read Kotetsu's analysis of the match over in the stats topic and was
reminded just how lame JC did. I guess the X-stats must not have done
proper justice, since I could've sworn I'd included them, but I guess
Ramza must be one of those guys who actually comes out looking okay
statistically even though he never really comes close to sniffing a win. Anyway, add 2.5% to my Vivi prediction (so it's 0.5% higher than what I originally sent in) and an extra 1.5% to my Marisa prediction (3.5 higher than what I originally sent in) and reduce my Adam prediction by 4%. --- RIP GrapefruitKing and Emporer_Kazbar. Division 8: Round 1 - Match 65 – (6) Vivi vs. (13) Adam Jensen vs. (22) Marisa Kirisame Moltar’s Analysis Vivi A solid Square staple Jensen Augmented losing Marisa stole the precious match Well Vivi wins this easy, so the only question here is if some Deus Ex guy can beat a Touhou. This is definitely the best chance for one to take 2nd, and Jensen isn't going to be strong. You saw JC Denton and Jensen doesn't even have the benefit of being an dude from the early 2000s. So sure, I'll go with Marisa over Jensen. Apparently Touhou fans are good at organizing rallies. Moltar’s Prediction: Vivi: 61% - Jensen: 19% - Marisa: 20% Lopen’s Analysis We all know Vivi gets first, but second place is a toughie here. Jensen should be strong enough to take second comfortably, but I'm going to say that fresh off that hopeless Cirno rally that only served to deny me my accuracy point, that 4chan is going to actually put good effort into powering Marisa through and she's going to have the best showing of the three Touhous. It's not like with the Cirno rally where it'd been weeks since Reimu had her match. I also have a feeling they're going to do it early this time, in hopes to "lead over Vivi for a while" or something ala Missile. Also helps that Marisa looks less doofusy than Cirno, although she still isn't nearly as KAWAII ANIMUU as Reimu was. Lopen's prediction: Vivi - 54.04% Marisa Kirisame - 24.08% Adam Jensen - 22.88% Leonhart’s Analysis When I first saw this match, it seemed like an obvious Vivi > Jensen > Marisa pick. But after seeing JC Denton bomb and the other Touhou chicks do pretty decently, I’m starting to have second thoughts. Jensen ought to be stronger than Denton by a decent margin simply because the original Deus Ex is too old to cater to the current GameFAQs crowd. Neither character should be that good here. Vivi could hit 60% here, and I wouldn’t be surprised. Really, he SHOULD, unless Jensen turns out to be halfway decent, which he probably won’t. Leonhart’s Vote: Vivi Ornitier Leonhart’s Prediction: Vivi Ornitier – 60.50% Marisa Kirasame – 20.50% Adam Jensen – 19.00% Kleenex’s Analysis It feels like there's a Touhou in these matches every day! Transience’s Analysis Okay, I have to find something to talk about because there sure as hell isn't anything to say here. I picked up Xenogears the other day. I needed a portable game to play while my daughter got her tonsils out, but she ended up getting strep and having that canceled. Oh well. Still, nothing is going to get me to stop playing a game I'm really fond of! Every time I play this game, it gets a little bit harder to deal with the low fidelity. The PS1 and N64 are just tough to play now, even dumb RPGs. It takes me a good hour or two to get over just how bad the camera is and just how low-res everything is. At least the game's music has aged well, and that alone makes it worth it. I'm finding the text speed particularly grueling which is something that bothers others but not me, surprisingly. Usually that kind of thing drives me up the wall but Xenogears has that music that lulls me into a lazy mood. I'll listen to that music all day. Anyway, after the first couple of hours I find myself getting drawn back in. Xenogears has a hilariously bad script to someone in their 30s, and there's typos all over the place, but I find a weird nostalgic charm in all of it. Xenogears has flaws lurking around every corner but man, that game has some heart. Fifteen years old and it still draws me in more than any other RPG. I could probably name a dozen RPGs that are more playable but none that make me want to sit there and lose myself for hours quite like Xenogears. Too bad Citan never made a contest during his prime. He probably would have done alright -- better than these other third rate RPG characters like Laharl and Vyse, anyway. How has Laharl made like 14 contests and Citan none? Crazy. I'll put Marisa over Adam Jensen because who really cares. Hopefully Vivi goes to town. transience's prediction: Vivi with 65%, Marisa with19%, Jensen with 16% KP's Analysis Easy win for Vivi. I doubt he's changed much in the 3 year gap. Adam Jensen should be a lot better than JC Denton for a lot of reasons, which should be enough to beat a Touhou getting their requisite 15-18%. Vivi isn't quite strong enough here to score such a big blowout that 4chan rallying should be very effective here. Guest’s Analysis - Tsunami Okay, Touhou time take three! This one’s right on the back of the previous one, too, so it should be fresh in the fandom’s mind. I think it being a night match helps, but then again everyone in this match is a night character so maybe not. Marisa’s shared main character status with Reimu pretty much since the start of the series and has more memes to her credit so I think she can probably be just as strong; only problem is that Vivi’s definitely stronger than Barret. Not as strong as Tifa, but then again Cirno was always going to be the weakest of the three, even with (9), and Chun-Li’s easily stronger than Layton. Speaking of which… …oh, man, Layton really was awful in 2010, wasn’t he? I was hoping to do some X-Stat voodoo using Reimu’s percentage on Layton and JC’s percentage on Ramza, but even factoring in that Adam, as a relatively new character, probably won’t be as strong as JC…well, actually once you put that in it becomes a plausible upset, but that still requires you make certain assumptions that are obviously biased. (Although it’s really not that bad…based on Ramza 2010 and Layton 2010, Reimu’d be expected to get 28.21% on Ramza and JC only got 30.71%. And Layton gets something like a new game every year, so although we won’t know for sure until we see how well Barret holds up in round 2, Layton actually could be stronger than he was in 2010.) Since we can’t get anything from Cirno’s match (I mean, which one would you take to make the direct comparison with?), let’s just go with a gut reaction. Division 8: Round 1 - Match 66 – (9) Ganondorf vs. (10) Guybrush Threepwood vs. (19) Max Payne Moltar’s Analysis Ganondorf The winner of the Rivalry Rumble (with a little help from Link) Guybrush Congrats you 5 Monkey Island fans, you got him back in Max He's going to be in a lot of Payne here Ah, a Ganondorf blowout. At least there's something to enjoy here. Max vs Guybrush is kind of debatable, but Guybrush has never not come in last and Max had a new game somewhat recently. That might be enough to get him second place. If this was a night match, Guybrush would have a much better shot since Europe loves the dude, but it's not. Moltar’s Prediction: Ganondorf: 60% - Guybrush: 18% - Max: 22% Lopen’s Analysis I've had a lot of fun lately calling characters doofusey with their pics. Now on that note, you know what puts me in max pain? Seeing this fodder trash, he who appears to be the essence of doofus make it in year in and year out. I speak of course of Guybrush, a guy who should be happy to make it in to one contest, yet has made it in every contest so far. Even CATS had the grace to take one contest off. If you must nominate things like this, nominate Manny Calavera again instead, ya buggers. Or hell even friggin Lechuck would be a welcome sight over this guy again. Lopen's prediction: Ganondorf - 60.50% Max Payne - 22.00% Guybrush - 17.50% Leonhart’s Analysis Ganondorf really went to waste in this bracket. One match he can’t possibly lose and we probably can’t get a good read off of him from, followed by an SFF beatdown next round by Mario that will only further obscure his strength. I think Ganondorf has declined a bit in recent years, but he hasn’t had a clean X-Stat result since 2006 (LFF and Bacondorf against Weegi in 2007; LFF’d by Samus in 2008; Bacondorf against Sonic in 2010). I don’t think the Bacondorf pic hurt him QUITE as much against Sonic as some people probably think since it was an LTTP sprite, not the turd brown Zelda 1 sprite. Even with a clean pic, I think Ganondorf would have only done as well as Kirby did on Sonic, maybe a little better or worse, but right around the same area. But all that debate will have to wait until the next Character Battle, whenever that is, since his opponents are Guybrush Threepwood, who has more appearances without a victory than anyone not named CATS, and Max Payne, who hasn’t been in a contest since 2004 and whose resume includes victories over Dirk the Daring and GFNW. He’s really let himself go in the last nine years, too. I might have considered giving Guybrush an outside shot at second place here in a night match since Europe goes ape over Monkey Island (get it), but in a day match, forget it. Leonhart’s Vote: Max Payne (a.k.a. He wasn't strong even when he was relevant, Max Payne 3 sort of came and went, and he looks like a generic dude. The first 2 matches in this division have featured relative blowouts. And Ganondorf will follow suit. It is just a matter of how high he goes. Guybrush has been in Contests fairly consistently, but hasn't made it out of round 1 in any of them. He hasn't put up good performances in any of his matches. In a night match, Guybrush could've made this interesting for 2nd place due to his strength in Europe. In Rivalry Rumble, Guybrush/LeChuck outright beat Bartz/Gilgamesh in most of Europe. In 2010, Guybrush did at 10%+ better vs. Vincent in Europe than the overall result. 2004 was the last time Max was in a Contest. There isn't much that can be taken from those stats for Max since they are probably outdated. In terms of exposure, Max has had a relatively recent game release (2012) - I don't know if it was received well by this site. There has also been a Max Payne movie, but I don't think that matters in this match. With Ganondorf eating up such a large chunk of the vote, I'm not ruling out Guybrush for 2nd. I'm going with Max here due to Guybrush's weakness, not Max's strength.
