Character Battle IX Contest Analysis Crew - Part 3
KamikazePotato posted... I really wonder what's at play here. Maybe Bowser in 2010 was secretly really great and just got Charizarded? Zack still did great on Mega Man, though. Maybe it's rSFF. I didn't think anyone was doubting Bowser's strength. Besides, it's not like Charizard stunk up the joint afterwards. He put up a pretty good percentage on Mario as well. I picked Kefka > Arthas in CBVIII, too, although that was also in part because I felt people were overrating Arthas a bit. --- RIP GrapefruitKing and Emporer_Kazbar. You will be missed. |
Dammit Kefka! Why does your matches never make sense!? Bingo yet? At least crew curse arrived. --- *2, *8,070,446 Kuroko no Basket *3, *6,495,240 Naruto |

this isn't a crew curse --- add the c and back away iphonesience |
No Kefka pickers, huh? I was tempted to just because Kefka never makes any damn sense! --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |
No Bingo yet! --- [NO BARKLEY NO PEACE] |
At least 4, 5, 21, 22, 25 and now 11 has happened. --- *2, *8,070,446 Kuroko no Basket *3, *6,495,240 Naruto |
Darn
it, my gut repeatedly told me Kefka was going to win this, but I
couldn't follow through on the pick. This is probably the clearest sign
that FFVII is in trouble, too, at least to me. LOL Hayabusa though --- http://i.imgur.com/M7vKB.gif |
Kefka > Zack Shepard > Aeris Samus > Auron > Tifa Sonic > Dracula > Barret Sonic > Bowser > Vincent Link > Sonic > Sephiroth Sonic the FF7 slayer. --- The Gamer In Me "Ike and Ash & Co. saw a Yoshi and didn't catch it." - Mer telling us his dream. |
1 step closer to Squall being the strongest Final Fantasy character. --- http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr345/Rakaputra/B8%20Girls%202012/pjbas.png SuperNiceDog - 1, pjbasis - 0 |
Also Snake > Pikachu > Cloud, duh. --- The Gamer In Me "Ike and Ash & Co. saw a Yoshi and didn't catch it." - Mer telling us his dream. |
pjbasis posted... 1 step closer to Squall being the strongest Final Fantasy character. Leon's dreams are coming to fruition! Although Rinoa got bodied by Hero of all people and we haven't seen Seifer or Squall yet, so maybe there's plenty of LOLs at PS1 FF characters to go around this year --- F*** BT |
Just gotta hope whatever weird stuff is happening to FFVII doesn't extend to FFVIII! But FFX is now the nostalgia game of the series so Tidus > Missingno here we come and if Shepard doesn't beat Aerith now I don't even know what to say --- http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/Sensui22/1248835958206.png |
Yeah, I felt pretty good about Kefka heading into the match. Just felt like he was going to win it. --- tune in tokyo 142.94 |
It
amazes me how many people suddenly had Kefka winning this match, but I
wonder how many expert/brackets reflect this fact <_<. Board 8 struggles with admitting they've been blindsided. --- "When your enemies defy you, you must serve them steel and fire. When they go to their knees, however, you must help them back to their feet." |
not me, this is a shocker --- xyzzy |
I
never picked Kefka! I just said I always felt bad about this match
because Kefka's matches never make sense. I even mentioned it in my
writeup! --- http://img.imgcake.com/tumblrmb8ky9zpsk1qd3518o8250gifyd.gif http://img.imgcake.com/tumblrmb8ky9zpsk1qd3518o6250gifuv.gif |
Pre-contest
I thought about taking Kefka, but FFVII always wins against other FF
and all that, plus how Kefka has performed before. Got more confident in
Kefka after seeing some other matches, though. This year is kinda
different compared to others, the smaller vote pool is helping. I
mentioned earlier that I think Crono will do really well, too, despite
how CT used to do. --- tune in tokyo 142.94 |
I
wrote like 3 paragraphs in my 'analyze every match in the contest'
topic about why I was really scared of Kefka in this match and almost
went with him. Almost switched to him in my Expert last night. Both
times I backed out just because I couldn't justify it. Still can't
really justify it! Oh, Kefka. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
I
thought there was a decent chance Zack could fall far enough to lose to
Kefka with these percentages finishing around here...but in that
situation I thought Ryu would be the one with 38%. And quite frankly,
I'm feeling confident this is more Zack sucking than Kefka strength,
much as I would love to use this match as proof that Cecil to Round 3 is
a lock. Not that Altair or Lara are going to stop Kefka from coasting to Round 3, though! |
Cecil? Where? --- tune in tokyo 142.94 |
ZFS posted... Cecil? Where? Cecil > Pit/Wrex, and then taking advantage of Red/Wario split (or maybe being good enough to beat Red outright...!) to get to Round 3. |
That
is to say, if this match is more of a Kefka boost than a Zack decline,
it has to come from somewhere, and that somewhere would probably benefit
Cecil, whether it's just an Old Square boost or more Dissidia impact. |
Yeah, I don't see Cecil beating Pit. --- tune in tokyo 142.94 |
I've got Cecil winning two rounds. Unless Pit is now at Knuckles' level, this contest has just made me feel better about that. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
I
think Cecil will probably get second, but Kid Icarus Uprising was the
first real game Pit has gotten since the NES days. Sold really well,
too. --- tune in tokyo 142.94 |
Pit
will be better, but I wouldn't feel comfortable taking him over Rydia,
let alone Cecil. He has a ton of ground to make up, and I don't think
people care that much about Pit himself in general. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
I'd take Pit over Rydia pretty easy! --- tune in tokyo 142.94 |
Rydia got, what, 44% on Falcon? That seems about what Pit would get. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
man,
this is just Kefka. just last week people were talking about Locke
bombing, and Rydia did just as expected. nothing unusual going on here. --- add the c and back away iphonesience |
And
some smart guy noted it is very rare that fan favorites outdo the main
characters from their game, so Cecil should be stronger than Rydia. --- "When your enemies defy you, you must serve them steel and fire. When they go to their knees, however, you must help them back to their feet." |
er, I mean nothing unusual with Cecil --- add the c and back away iphonesience |
I'd
go Pit over Falcon, too. They both have Smash, but Uprising is a bigger
deal than any F-Zero game. It's the only reason Pit's even back,
really. Expecting that to count for something. --- tune in tokyo 142.94 |
ZFS posted... I'd go Pit over Falcon, too. They both have Smash, but Uprising is a bigger deal than any F-Zero game. It's the only reason Pit's even back, really. Expecting that to count for something. Wow <_<. --- "When your enemies defy you, you must serve them steel and fire. When they go to their knees, however, you must help them back to their feet." |
are we pretending that captain falcon is a big deal or something --- tune in tokyo 142.94 |
They
don't 'both have Smash'. Falcon gets more Smash support than any other
character in existence. He's essentially the living embodiment of Smash
in these things, and he's an inherently much more likable and 'votable'
character than Pit is. I don't think Pit is a character that people care
about very much, and a 3DS game - while popular - isn't gonna sell me
on that! Plus, if Cecil=Knuckles, there's just no chance unless Pit boosted a ridiculous amount. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
Falcon literally just almost beat Alucard in a night match Pit does not beat Alucard --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
I mean I guess we are going to find out soon if Pit is too legit to quit. --- "When your enemies defy you, you must serve them steel and fire. When they go to their knees, however, you must help them back to their feet." |
I
picked Pit to win that due to his new game and this being his first
match without any other Nintendo character to hurt him. At the very
least, you'd think that with Uprising now he wouldn't be viewed as "just
a Brawl guy". --- Currently Playing - Super Metroid, MGS4, Brawl, FFVII, Wind Waker, RE4, SOTC |
Achromatic posted... And some smart guy noted it is very rare that fan favorites outdo the main characters from their game, so Cecil should be stronger than Rydia. Yeah, what a genius that guy is. I think you're underselling Falcon a lot. He's pretty loved by the Smash and Nintendo fanbase in general, I think. His lack of anything outside of Smash prevents him from being better, but him being stronger than guys like Ike and Marth, despite only having Smash to draw on, should prove that he has an actual fanbase. That's not the same as simply being in Smash, like Pit is. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
Well,
yeah, that's because Falcon might as well not exist outside of Smash
for most of GameFAQs, for anyone. He's a car more than a character
outside of Smash. I chose Falcon to win his match against Alucard, too! I
don't think there's too much difference between them, in any case, at
least today. --- tune in tokyo 142.94 |
Pit's way more likable than Falcon. --- xyzzy |
Can't see Pit improving to the point of being on Knux's level now. Dude went 50/50 with King Dedede once upon a time. --- Leonhart posting from his phone |
Falcon
Punch is bigger than Kid Icarus has ever been. Remember, Pit's game
that's supposed to boost him got beat easily by a Wii U New Super Mario
Bros. game in one of the lowest vote-drawing polls we've had in years,
iirc. --- http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh293/zukiraphaera/war-sig-1.png RIP Paul Bearer. Ohhhh nooooo. :( |
Oh
no don't get me wrong I expected Ryu Hayabusa to win this. I'm just
saying like, if I was picking for the sake of having an upset in and of
itself I would've went Kefka. Nothing really to back it just some weird
KEFKAFEAR sorta thing. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |
Actually
to me the most surprising thing about this match is that Zack is
getting second place in spite of Kefka winning. I really thought that
Ryu Hayabusa was a lock for second place at worst. Kefka > Zack I'd
vaguely been humoring but yeah. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |
Yeah Ryu being this bad is the most surprising thing to me. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
KamikazePotato posted... I considered taking Kefka for so, so long and chickened out because stats pretty much I entertained the thought of kefka winning when discussing how old square has been looking good while ff7 hasn't but I wasn't going to pull that trigger I did switch to Ryu H > Zack > Kefka at the last minute though so woo -2 instead of -6 --- Moltar Status: Crew Contest Analysis Crew Archives: http://thecrew.speedrunwiki.com/ |
Division 5: Round 1 - Match 37 – (1) Cloud Strife vs. (18) Sen. Steven Armstrong vs. (27) Prinny Moltar’s Analysis Cloud blond-haired zack Armstrong http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiufQbeA9Sk Prinny At least it's not Laharl...yet So Cloud destroys this pack, let's go to the expert challenge. Prinny got 37% on Ike and 2nd in the (almost meaningless) 27 seed poll before the contest. That's good enough to beat the MGR dude. Plus Prinny is more recognizable and whatever. Just listen to MGR music through the match it'll be better than watching this blowout. Also FF7 may stink it up again here that could be fun. Moltar’s Prediction: Cloud: 65% - Armstrong: 11% - Prinny: 24% Lopen’s Analysis If Armstrong didn't look like Joseph Park esq I'd take him for second here. As is he's going to be too busy searching for his brother Mike... you know... Haggar, to be able to do much. Prinny should take second just on merit of being a penguin though, even though traditional thinking might say he gets SFFed. Whatever. Oh and just to earn the trip to the pay winda Cloud wins. But he probably does pretty bad considering he's fighting fodder and fodderer here. (Cloud and Zack in back to back matches SOUNDS TOO CONVENIENT) Lopen's prediction: Cloud Strife - 60.03% Dood - 22.89% Senator Parks - 17.08% Leonhart’s Analysis I don’t know what to expect from Cloud here. FFVII has been putting up mediocre performances all contest, but this isn’t the best competition to take advantage of it. Armstrong should be pretty weak. I wouldn’t expect much from a Rising exclusive Metal Gear character. Prinny actually did all right against Ike back in 2010, and he’s got an appealing design, so he’ll probably do fine here against Cloud. Whatever anti-votes he gets are more likely to go to him than Armstrong, I think. This is a weaker group than Seph’s and Cloud’s stronger than him, too, so if he manages less than 60% here, I’d be kinda surprised. And after how good Snake looked in round 1, Cloud really needs to respond in kind. Leonhart’s Vote: Cloud Strife Leonhart’s Prediction: Cloud Strife – 66.00% Prinny – 26.00% Senator Steven Armstrong – 18.00% Kleenex’s Analysis ANTI-VOTES Kleenex's Prediction Cloud with 59.00% Armstrong with 16.00% Prinny with 25.00% --- Moltar Status: Crew Contest Analysis Crew Archives: http://thecrew.speedrunwiki.com/ |
Transience’s Analysis SENATOR ARMSTRONG IS GOING TO GET DESTROYED. PRINNY IS A PRINNY. CLOUD SHOULD GET LIKE 78% OH WAIT, HE'S IN FINAL FANTASY SEVEN TRANSIENCE'S PREDICTION: CLOUD WITH 66%, PRINNY WITH 23%, ARMSTRONG WITH 11% KP's Analysis SENATOR STEVEN ARMSTRONG is one of the best new characters of the year, but he's getting last place here. A character that only appears in the last 10% of Metal Gear Rising, even though he's very memorable, is not going to do well. His pic is unfortunate, too, why couldn't we have gotten one of him looking like a final boss and not a guy in a suit? Meanwhile, Prinny looked 'decent' against Ike. This match will be interesting for Cloud. He can't possibly do poorly here, given the competition, but given FF7's newfound ability to tank...who knows? Cloud - 70% Prinny - 18% Armstrong - 12% Guest’s Analysis - Tsunami Wait, I signed up for this one? Well, okay. So we’ve got a member of the Noble Nine, a new character who apparently has some memes, and awesome penguin doods. FFVII has deboosted across the board, but these guys are weaker than Midna and Little Mac so let’s just pencil Cloud in for about 65%. Moving on to the real battle here. Senator Armstrong looks cool, but will people really know who he is? The fact that his game came out earlier this year worries me. The Disgaea series is niche, sure, but it’s been around for a decade now, and Prinnies are featured in every game of it. They got their own spin-off series, a super-tough platformer. And apparently it’s not so niche that it can’t win a thing—Laharl got his first win last character battle. Re-run this once Armstrong’s had a little more time to enter the public consciousness, and maybe it’s different, but for now, I think I’m taking the souls in the penguin suits. Cloud Strife 65% Senator Steven Armstrong 16.5% Prinny 18.5% Crew Consensus: Cloud to redeem FF7? --- Moltar Status: Crew Contest Analysis Crew Archives: http://thecrew.speedrunwiki.com/ |
