Character Battle IX Contest Analysis Crew - Part 2
ATTENTION CREW FANS Do you realize you're receiving free advice from the Number One GameFAQs Three-Way Expert on the planet? True fact! Master Moltar has just moved into the #1 position out of over 120 users competing at this year's Oracle Challenge- in fact he has opened up nearly a 4 point lead over the nearest competitor! Be sure to send him a note of congratulations the next time you see him. --- thengamer.com/guru | thengamer.com/xstats | board8.wikia.com Oh gosh, you really should listen to The Show! |
And despite being on the Crew, I'm 80th lawl Did snag a top 5 for Seph's match though whoo! --- http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/8718/leonflowchart.png |
I think I'd be crushing Oracle if I bothered to enter this year. I've lacked my usual percentage implosions and have made some BOLD calls that have ended up correct. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |
Speaking
of Moltar up Big Boss by 4 and drop VVVVVV by 3 and Peacock by 1.
Really don't like that VVVVVV pic to exploit the votes I thought he'd be
getting. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Division 3: Round 1 - Match 23 – (5) Big Boss vs. (14) Peacock vs. (23) Captain Viridian Moltar’s Analysis Big Boss The real question isn't if he's going to win, but if it's old man or not (it's not) Peacock ya go my skullgirls Viridian Leader of Viridian City Spoilers Big Boss vs Luigi is a highly anticipated match for next round so this match is all about seeing how good BB can look going into it. Skullgirls has a small but dedicated fanbase so it probably won't roll over and die here despite MGS having a large and dedicated fanbase. VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV gets last by a fair amount. Moltar’s Bracket: Big Boss > Peacock > Viridian Moltar’s Prediction: Big Boss: 70% - Peacock: 19% - Viridian: 11% Lopen’s Analysis How can a game called Skullgirls have designs that are so unsexy. C'mon, man, this should be my dream roster but I couldn't care less about it. Just looking at Peacock's design puts me at the end of my rope-- it doesn't hold a candlestick to similar designs. It makes me want to knife my eyes out just looking at it... okay that's harsh... I like my eyes a lot... but it's no Revolver Ocelot, or anything, designwise. Captain VVVVVV probably throws a wrench into the works and takes second here. Not out of game strength, cause let's face it no one's played either game, but out of WHOA LOOK AT THE STICK FIGURE IT'S SO RETRO. I mean, it's not retro. Atari 2600 wishes it had sprites with that kinda charisma, but you know what I mean. And hey, maybe people think it's The Game & Watch dude. Food for thought! Something something Big Boss pic something something Snake. Lopen's prediction: Big Boss - 71.84% VVVVVV - 16.66% Peacock... ... LEAD PIPE!!! YEAHHH!!! ... sorry - 11.50% Leonhart’s Analysis Big Boss has the potential to score an epic blowout here. After all, he’s up against a character from Skullgirls and the dude from VVVVVV. This obviously isn’t as weak as Mewtwo’s competition since it doesn’t feature Chester, of course, but it’s pretty bad. I wouldn’t pick either of these characters to outdo Zero by much! I’m still not entirely sure how to predict percentages for this contest (as you can tell by my Accuracy Points position here), but I feel pretty confident about the order. I think Viridian gets second pretty easily here. I think he has a more charming design than Peacock by a long shot, and I think VVVVVV is more up this site’s alley than Skullgirls is. Neither character is that well known, of course, but when you’re fighting for scraps, every little bit counts. Leonhart’s Vote: Big Boss Leonhart’s Prediction: Big Boss – 70.00% Captain Viridian – 16.50% Peacock – 13.50% Kleenex’s Analysis Just a couple quick hitters for today's matches because I'm writing them at work. This one seems pretty simple - Big Boss wins. Shocking, I'm sure. What I'm not sure of, however is what Peacock is. From Skullgirls, apparently. Is Skullgirls well-liked on GameFAQs? Do people remember VVVVVV? In the only two polls they've ever been in, VVVVVV got squashed in the 2010 Indie Game of the Year poll, while Skullgirls beat out Guilty Gear at least. I guess I'll go with Peacock, but Captain Viridian is still cooler than these other two losers. Kleenex's Prediction Big Boss with 64% Peacock with 20% Captain Viridian with 16% --- Moltar Status: Crew Contest Analysis Crew Archives: http://thecrew.speedrunwiki.com/ |
Transience’s Analysis BIG BOSS ASSASSINATES THIS FOURPACK. I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO GAUGE AN INDIE FIGHTING GAME CHARACTER NOBODY HAS PLAYED ON A SITE THAT HATES FIGHTING GAMES, OR A DOWNLOADABLE 8-BIT C64 STICK FIGURE MAN. THIS CONTEST, MAN. I CAN'T EVEN FORMULATE ARGUMENTS OR EVEN COHERENT THOUGHTS. TRANSIENCE'S PREDICTION: BIG BOSS WITH 73%, VIRIDIAN WITH 14%, PEACOCK WITH 13% KP's Analysis Peacock vs. Captain Viridian. Peacock vs. Captain Viridian. Really? Big Boss - 76% Peacock - 14% Captain Viridian - 10% Guest’s Analysis - FantasyFreakVI A few matches into this tournament, I started to believe that massive blowouts were a thing of the past. Sure, Link got 70% of the vote in his match, but it was against some grade A fodder, one of which was SFF'd. Everyone expected him to be higher. ...and then, we got to the Mewtwo match. DAYUM! That was a trouncing if there ever was one, and it wasn't even by a particularly strong character! Now, we can be confident that some strong characters are able to pull of something like this when paired up against pathetically weak characters. Now, you may be wondering where I'm going with this... and I'll answer by saying that I think Big Boss is in a similar situation as Mewtwo was. It's his match to run away with. Will he achieve the same blowout that Mewtwo did? Nah, I think Peacock is a little bit stronger than Mewtwo's competition, but Big Boss will still triple, I think. Oh, and as for the third guy... Viridian who? The only reason why I kinda recognize him is because I was exploring the 3DS eShop and glanced at him. He's gonna get demolished. Big Boss - 76.39% Peacock - 17.85% Viridian - 5.76% Crew Consensus: Big win for Big Boss --- Moltar Status: Crew Contest Analysis Crew Archives: http://thecrew.speedrunwiki.com/ |
Just think, this is yet another match within Edgeworth's own division he could've won. And he would've won this one even more easily than last night's match! --- http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lo22vfguji1qzxr43.gif |
Leonhart’s Analysis I wouldn't pick either of these characters to outdo Zero at all! Yeah, lol VN characters, but in a fodder-vs.-fodder match where all characters are obscure, character design could be the deciding factor--and I'd give Zero (999) the advantage there. --- RIP GrapefruitKing and Emporer_Kazbar. You will be missed. |
Peacock looks way cooler than Zero (999) --- Pts: 21/22 Today's Picks: Big Boss & Ness IX: Link-VV-BB-SS-Cloud-Sora-Samus-Mario-Zard |
I'd pick Peacock's design over Zero's (999) too. I love the old-timey cartoon charm, while Zero is kinda boring. --- 3DS FC: 3265-5634-7751 |
I think Peacock looks dumb but yeah most people will like it more --- xyzzy |
big boss is so screwed --- xyzzy |
big boss more like big bomb hehehe --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
big boss is so not screwed --- xyzzy |
this epic comeback is excellent --- xyzzy |
That turnaround was hilarious. Viridian probably wins this. Oh well! --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
Aw yeah VVVVVV Felt pretty bad at the freeze Feelin' great now Pushing Onwards --- http://i.imgur.com/fe05x.png http://i.imgur.com/stNJf.png |
This is pretty amazing. Viridian does great during the board vote, completely falls apart for 2 and a half minutes, then holds steady-ish the rest of the way. --- http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh293/zukiraphaera/war-sig-1.png RIP Paul Bearer. Ohhhh nooooo. :( |

Division 3: Round 1 - Match 24 – (8) CATS vs. (11) Ness vs. (20) Locke Cole Moltar’s Analysis CATS All your base is in last place Ness Play Earthbound...or not I don't really care Locke Cole Because FF6 characters have looked so good in these Sorry CATS, you had the seeding advantage and might have had a chance in another match, but it's still not your year to win. Ness vs. Locke isn't really debated though I suppose you could make a case for Locke. If he's around Kefka or Terra level he's going to put up a fight. Even if he's not, it's not like Ness is some bastion of strength, dude is weak too. Still, this is Ness' match to lose. A day match is very advantageous for him as FF6 is garbage during the day and CATS will be out of the match in the first hour. Moltar’s Bracket: Ness > Locke Cole > CATS Moltar’s Prediction: CATS: 20% - Ness: 45% - Locke: 35% Lopen’s Analysis Ness is the favorite, but I think Locke wins this pretty easily. Now, hear me out. I believe Locke is going to be closer to a Kefka than a Terra, and may even surpass him. Terra may be (debatably) the main character of FFVI, but the title alone doesn't matter. FFVI is the ensembliest cast that ever was ensembled. What this means that "main character" doesn't actually matter and priority is going to be placed on the more likable characters, the ones that are fun to use in battle, and the ones who get more screentime. To me this means Edgar or Sabin would be the strongest entrants (primary edge gleaned from the latter two points vs Locke) from the game. But, we make do with Locke, who should be no slouch and easily be stronger than Terra. Helps that he has a pic that isn't ass, too. I think one of FFVI's top tier characters (this includes Kefka, who I'd take to beat Ness easily) is more than enough to handle Ness, x-stats be damned. CATS was roused tempting of superiority... but I would scarcity restraining allowance of it... level withholding inflamed thumbs. Make your time, Ness... make your time... Lopen's prediction: Locke - 39.14% Ness - 32.04% CATS - 28.82% Leonhart’s Analysis Ness always finds a way to ruin everything. When the bracket was first being revealed, I was very excited about a Big Boss/Luigi showdown, and then once Ness showed up, it sort of killed the hype. As much as I’d love to see Locke win, I can’t see it. FFVI characters were always crap before Dissidia, and Locke doesn’t have the benefit of being in that. He’ll just have to hope for a Theatrhythm boost, I guess (but not a Theatrhythm picture! Not that it matters though. His chances of getting a good picture are practically zero). I probably would’ve taken Ness to beat anyone from FFVI before Dissidia happened. The only thing this match is good for are bad jokes about CATS being the Locke/Ness Monster or something. Leonhart’s Vote: Locke Cole Leonhart’s Prediction: Ness – 48.00% Locke Cole – 32.00% CATS – 20.00% Kleenex’s Analysis A match of failures. Ness is the least failurish of the group, but that's nothing to be proud of. All Final Fantasy VI characters are bad, and there's only two of them who have even been able to get into contests without needing rigged and/or giant brackets. Locke is not one of them. CATS is CATS and in all honesty could probably beat Locke here but I'm not picking it because I don't think an internet fad from over 10 years ago holds much water these days. Kleenex's Prediction CATS with 21% Ness with 45% Locke with 34% Nothing about those percentages look good. What a stupid match. --- Moltar Status: Crew Contest Analysis Crew Archives: http://thecrew.speedrunwiki.com/ |
Transience’s Analysis LET'S BE HONEST: WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WATCHED ALL YOUR BASE? WAS IT IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS? AYB IS GREAT AND WAS HUGE IN THE ERA BEFORE YOUTUBE LET YOU WATCH ANYTHING AT ANY TIME, BUT THAT TIME IS A WHILE AGO. WE'RE A BUNCH OF OLD FOGIES THAT NEVER MOVED ON PAST 2001 BUT I THINK THIS ONE MIGHT BE REACHING BACK A LITTLE TOO MUCH. LOCKE SCARES ME. AFTER 11 YEARS, THE STRONGEST FF6 CHARACTER FINALLY MAKES A CHARACTER BATTLE. BUT WHY DOES HE LOOK LIKE AN N64 CHARACTER? FF6 IS 20 YEARS OLD NOW -- IS IT TOO LATE FOR HIM TO MATTER? THROW IN A DAY MATCH AND I SAY YES. NESS SUCKS BUT NOT ENOUGH TO DROP THIS ONE. OH, AND EARTHBOUND HIT THE WII U VIRTUAL CONSOLE LIKE TWO DAYS AGO. TRANSIENCE'S PREDICTION: NESS WITH 45%, LOCKE WITH 37%, CATS WITH 18% KP's Analysis Not much to say about this match. CATS is beyond irrelevant these days. The glory days where he could go toe to toe with Ansem are long gone. Ness vs. Locke is slightly more interesting, but only slightly. I don't trust old FF characters (not in Dissidia) in the slighest, especially ones that probably get Amano artwork. People like to rag on Ness around here, but he's a solid low-midcard with 3 wins. Ness - 50% Locke - 35% CATS - 15% Guest’s Analysis - Luster Soldier When the bracket was slowly being revealed and CATS was revealed as an 8 seed, we originally thought maybe CATS might get put into a situation where he can win a match. But as the other seeds got revealed, all hope was lost in CATS having a chance to win a match. Maybe CATS has a chance at 2nd place, but 1st place is impossible at this point. In this match, we're going to see Locke Cole in action for the first time. He'll be weaker than Terra and Kefka for sure, but could be weak enough to lose to CATS? Probably not. Being associated with Final Fantasy should grant him a certain number of votes by default. Nathan Drake is the only character to lose to CATS, and that was before he got UC2. If Locke bombs and turns out to be almost as weak as 2007 Drake, maybe he loses to CATS. The underperformance by Barret doesn't give me any confidence in FF characters appearing in a contest for the first time will perform better than expected. As for Ness, there's a small chance that Locke manages to pull out the upset here. But this is a day match, which is good for Smash/Nintendo characters and bad for FF characters. Even in a night match, I probably still would have taken Ness. Locke would have to be above the fodder line to pull out an upset here. I don't think he'll be above the fodder line after seeing Barret's disappointing performance. Luster Soldier's Bracket: Ness Luster Soldier's Prediction: CATS - 23.69% Ness - 43.76% Locke Cole - 32.55% Crew Consensus: Ness hits a homerun --- Moltar Status: Crew Contest Analysis Crew Archives: http://thecrew.speedrunwiki.com/ |
crew curse CATS win oh yes --- ~FFDragon. (at Work !!) The Cream of Resident Evil Fanboyism. |
Damnit,
shouldn't have made that last adjustment to my Oracle. Bumped Big Boss
down a couple of percent and each of the others up a percent.
75.21/11.7/13.09 would look pretty good right now! --- RIP GrapefruitKing and Emporer_Kazbar. You will be missed. |
this could be kinda close despite the horrific start --- xyzzy |
yeah locke looking like he could have won a night match here until ness gains like 200 votes next update --- i'll do rydia -Dante |
Great now this board is going to try and get every FF6 character in Who's ready for Relm and Gau --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
I don't feel safe about Ness just yet. Ness only gained 7 votes on Locke during the last 3 minutes of the board vote. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
I don't know that your second or third strongest character losing to Ness is incentive to get others from the game in! --- i'll do rydia -Dante |
Sabin and Shadow for CBX Sabin match pic will be him suplexing a ghost train --- You know who's sexy? Black Turtle, the 2010 Games Contest Guru Winner, that's who! |
close enough --- i'll do rydia -Dante |
HEADSHOT! Ness killed that update. Locke has to start kicking it into gear soon or he'll be finished. --- Luster Soldier --- ~Shield Bearer~ | ~Data Analyst~ Popular at school, but not as cool as SuperNiceDog, Guru Champ! |
okay yeah Luigi is screwed --- xyzzy |
locke probably just sucks! --- i'll do rydia -Dante |
KP am cry --- You know who's sexy? Black Turtle, the 2010 Games Contest Guru Winner, that's who! |
KP am happy! I voted for Ness and have Big Boss in my bracket! --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
Wow,
Locke, you suck. I mean, Terra sucks too, of course-- does this
percentage stat him as stronger or weaker than Terra, in theory? In any case even though I still think Edgar and Sabin would be stronger I scarcely think it's worth even thinking about at this point. Locke's probably #4 and if your #4 gets destroyed by Ness what's the point. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |
Well,
considering the strongest characters from the game (still mediocre in
strength) had to be made relevant again by Dissidia, I'm not surprised
in the slightest by Locke bombing. --- SuperNiceDog won the Guru contest super nicely! |
how is this bombing? --- xyzzy |
I'm
pretty sure right there in the contest dictionary as the third entry
for bombing is "losing decisively to Ness" with "Carl Johnson sure did
bomb in the 2005 character battle" as an example of its usage. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |
What he said^ --- SuperNiceDog won the Guru contest super nicely! |
nah.
literally everyone picked Locke to lose at pretty close to this
percentage. this is right in line with other FF6 characters. what did
you expect? --- xyzzy |
Something closer to Kefka than Terra, personally. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |
I
think you guys are underselling Ness. He has good showings when he
doesn't meet another Nintendo character. I think he's pretty much the
definition of low-midcard. And Terra is legit nowadays, might actually be stronger than Super Kefka. 39% on Squall and all that. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
Oh, it has 35%. Still pretty great if you think there was any SFF there! I think Terra has the potential to win her next match. I didn't pull the trigger on it, but if Kirby and Peach kill each other and Dissidia hasn't worn off yet, then it's possible. --- Black Turtle did a pretty good job. |
I remember when people used to respect Ness's strength. At what point did he become a joke? I'm not sure. Probably when he lost that Liquid/Alucard/Zidane/Ness match without a fight. --- "I can set you free, mate." "My freedom was forfeit long ago!" |
Pre-Dissidia
Terra's 'best' performance was 59% on Kerrigan, so this is a pretty
decent performance by Locke. Not good enough that we ever need to see
another new FF6 character again (also if someone wanted to argue it I'd
believe Locke could be rSFFing Ness a little), but decent enough given
that FF6 has fallen pretty hard. --- http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh293/zukiraphaera/war-sig-1.png RIP Paul Bearer. Ohhhh nooooo. :( |
