Competing against Link is pretty much the definition of being in a bind

They're finally back! It feels good to have another contest after this extended break. The three-way twist this time is interesting, and while there is (as always) a lot of wasted potential thanks to the format and poor bracket placement, there are still a lot of interesting matches to look forward to. The Expert Challenge will also prove to be extremely difficult and guaranteed to make you really think about these matches.

With that out of the way, it's pretty much tradition that the contest starts off with a Link godstompping. We're also finally getting Link vs. Tingle despite Isaac sticking his nose in-between them. Tingle will get destroyed, but he should get enough joke and anti-Link votes to squeak by Isaac, who I expect nothing from.

Moltar’s Bracket: Link > Tingle > Isaac

Moltar’s Prediction: Link: 81% - Isaac: 9% - Tingle: 10%



Lopen’s Analysis

Hey, do people still read this stuff? More importantly, do people still write this stuff? I guess I do, for now. Who isn't hyped? We get to have straight up matches this time I'm sure I'll be able to stay interested better than I was for that last contest that shall not be named.

Anyway I guess I'll discuss this riveting match here since that's what I'm supposed to do. The winner is obvious, but if you're playing on EXPERT DIFFICULTY then #2 and #3 might have some interest. Intuition says that "oh Link SFFs that lamer Tingle" but I think Tingle will actually be holding his own via joke votes (that will all come from the Zelda fanbase, because let's face it, no one else is lame enough to think this guy is funny) and Bacon's anti-Link propaganda weakening Link (because without the propaganda, I'm convinced GameFAQs is stupid enough to think that Cloud and FF7 win every year).

All you fools who picked Link to win the whole thing again... oh ho ho you will be sorry in about 1205 matches. DOOM SAYING IN A HURRY LET US BEGIN

Isaac is crying in his bio pic probably because I ignored him entirely. Or maybe he's crying because vote totals are gonna be like 40k. Who knows. I'm sorry, crying munchkin thing. You have my vote, at least. :(

Leonhart’s Analysis

When the bracket was first revealed, this was your basic “Link destroys everything” with the added benefit of seeing just how bad he’d make Tingle look with SFF. But now with the Expert Challenge, you actually have to figure out how bad it’s going to be! Somehow, Allen has made a match featuring Link interesting! Quite miraculous indeed, despite having little to do with Link himself.

So how badly is Tingle going to get SFF’d? We saw Link score nearly 90% on Ganondorf back in 2004, and you’d have to think/hope he could manage something similar on Tingle, who only managed about 8% in a Nintendo LFF-fest against Luigi, Pit, and Mudkip in 2007. The only thing giving me pause is the possibility that people will vote for Tingle against Link because it’s funny on some level, which could be enough. Plus, it’s not likely that Isaac BOI is very strong anyway. However, we know Link is going to have at bare minimum 75% of the vote in this poll, so second place won’t need a high percentage to advance, which works in Isaac BOI’s favor. You can make a decent case for either scenario, to the point that I don’t have any confidence making either pick, but I have to pick something, so here goes.

Tingle – 9.50%
Isaac BOI – 8.00%



Kleenex’s Analysis

If there's one bit of information we can take away from this match it'll be the top end of the blowout potential for this contest because holy crap. Could Link possibly have gotten a more [unnecessarily] favorable first round match? Maybe they could have stuck him in that Tharja match, but I dunno.

So I guess the "exciting" part of this match is who gets second. We already know Tingle is some bottom of the barrel fodder, so sticking him with Link is just cruel. In a pure 1v1 match, though, I'm pretty sure I'd take Tingle against Isaac. There's really nothing to back this up, but Binding of Isaac doesn't seem particularly popular around here and Tingle is still a ZELDA character. It really all comes down to how much Link kills Tingle here.

So what's the verdict? Who cares! I don't!

Finally! Three plus years since the last character battle! Lots of unknowns are sure to be in this contest! I'm psyched and ready to go.

And so our first match is Link and OH MY GOD IT'S A PC EXCLUSIVE CHARACTER WHO FIGHTS HIS NIGHTMARES BY SHOOTING HIS OWN TEARS AT ENEMIES, AND TINGLE. I AM ACTUALLY DEBATING THIS MATCH.

GOOD THING THIS BRACKET WON'T GET ANY LESS GROSS -- OH WAIT WALUIGI IS IN THE NEXT MATCH

TRANSIENCE'S PREDICTION: LINK WITH 104.45%, TINGLE WITH -1.78%, ISAAC WITH -2.67%



KP's Analysis

Nice to start off the contest with what will probably be its biggest blowout! Link is going to annihilate these guys.

I feel pretty confident in Isaac getting second here. Some people are looking at Tingle's decent result on Sora and thinking that he's not that bad, but Sora is a pretty good anti-vote magnet so I don't think that result is trustworthy. Link is also going to SFF the everloving christ out of him, no one in their right mind votes Tingle over Link.

Meanwhile, Binding of Isaac has actually done quite well for itself, I think it's almost as popular as Super Meat Boy these days. GameFAQs isn't huge on indie games, but Isaac has a unique and recognizable design. I might take him against Tingle 1 v 1.
Link is going to utterly murder both of these guys regardless.

Wow Moltar I'm incredibly touched by the offer. However I'm afraid I have to DECLINE a position on the Analysis Crew this season- 81 straight R1 matches featuring mostly new characters and fodder is just too much, I wouldn't be able to maintain the highest standard of writeup quality that I've stood for these last five seasons.

But don't cry your eyes out, Crew Fans! I'll be making my glorious return to this topic from Round Two on, when the fodder's been knocked out and there are previous results to analyze and I'm not struggling to type a paragraph on whether Tharja can defeat Juliet Starling and realizing there are still 100 more of these to go and wanting to die.
