I'm not a hard man to please. Conker vs Ike When it comes to joke appeal, butt slugs ain't got nothing on a giant mound of poo! Fun to have something so ridiculous in the bracket (and props to SB for adding it to the suggestion list, though it makes his exclusion of so many other pairs even more confusing), but I'm afraid voters are going to label this joke "soooooooo 2001". Additionally, I don't see that match pic doing Team Conker any favors. Not sure how I was expecting Poo to look recognizable with so few pixels to work with, but guess I was expecting him to stand out a little more than THAT! Ike's probably not capable of blowing anything out so this shouldn't be a true beatdown... something in the range of what he did to Prinny sounds about right. Freebooter write up incoming! (4) Conker/The Great Mighty Poo vs. (5) Ike/Black Knight This match was debated a little bit, though I picked Ike and never looked back. The only real advantage Conker/Poo have is the joke factor, which as we're seeing is not necessarily worth too much. Fire Emblem and Ike have been solid the last couple of contests, and have a reasonable history, unlike Conker. Smash still helps Ike here too, especially in the day, even if the effect will be somewhat diluted with the focus on his rivalry. I could see anything from the mid 50s to near a doubling coming out of this match and it wouldn't surprise me - but I can't see Conker/Poo coming close to winning. Ike vs. Black Knight with 60.5% of the vote. --- Praise the Black Turtle, Game of the Decade Guru Champ. (Well, I never promised creativity, did I?!) |

North Division: Round 1 - Match 2 – (4) Conker/Great Mighty Poo vs. (5) Ike/Black Knight Moltar’s Analysis Conker/Poo Poo right? It’s poo. Ike/BK Isn’t this supposed to be Meta-oh that’s next match For a 4 vs 5 match, this outcome seems more obvious than the 3 vs 6 match next. In some of the matches, I have the team with the stronger combination winning over the team with the strongest character because of ~synergy~. However, this is just one of those times where the stronger character stomps over everything, no matter what weak thing they are paired up with. Ike and Conker are the main forces of the teams, while Poo and Black Knight are pretty much non-factors. Ike beats Conker straight-up, so I’ll take a team with Ike and who cares over Conker and who cares. Moltar’s Bracket: Ike/Black Knight Moltar’s Prediction: Ike/Black Knight - 60% Lopen’s Analysis It's a squirrel, and a dropping presumably made by the squirrel. Now some of you feces supporters may be all over this upset, saying it's a cult classic or something, but I'm thinking the BLACK KNIGHT could take this alone. Why? Cause it's a BLACK KNIGHT. Now I've never played FE9 or FE10, but who needs to? It's that guy from Smash Bros who literally smacks people with a figurative truck and a BLACK KNIGHT. Should be more than enough to win this one, and easily at that. Lopen's prediction: Ike vs BLACK KNIGHT with 62.10% Leon’s Analysis This is one of those matches where it feels like people are really stretching for justifications to make this thing debatable. I’m probably jinxing myself by saying this, but Ike/Black Knight feels like a lock. I’m aware that a large chunk of Ike’s popularity comes from Brawl, but it’s not like he needs to be very popular to beat Conker, who hasn’t been in a contest since 2005 and didn’t look good in any of his appearances (although to be fair, his three opponents were Yoshi, Crono, and Mega Man). I would imagine that, like Earthworm Jim, Conker’s only gotten weaker since then. I would take Path of Radiance to beat Conker’s Bad Fur Day, so I feel like there’s not any advantage to Conker there either. I’ve heard some people talk about Conker/Poo getting joke-voted to victory because of the fact that it’s going to be a picture of poo on the front page and his name is The Great Mighty Poo. I guess that’s possible, but I wouldn’t bet on that happening. I don’t like betting on unlikely scenarios and what-ifs, so I’m not going to bet on it here. Don’t get me wrong. Ike/Black Knight isn’t going to be very strong, but it’s not going to be in much danger of losing here either. Leonhart’s Prediction: Ike/Black Knight with 58.15% Kleenex’s Analysis Ike was [marginally] impressive last-last year with BIG BIG wins over Zidane and someone else I can't remember. Conker's pretty much trash, everyone knows this. The entire match comes down to how much people want to vote for the "joke" entry because it's a big pile of crap. I don't think anyone cares about the rivalry factor in either of these matches, so in my mind it comes down to how susceptible Ike is to a joke vote. He's not really all that strong in his own right, and derives most of his strengh from Brawl. The day match probably helps him out in that aspect, but I'm not gonna be shocked if Conker/Poo ends up winning this. Applekidjosh’s Analysis this match sucks. Conker was only funny when we were like 13, and nobody cares about console fire emblem. So let's boil down to what this match REALLY is... a duel of comedy stylings! In the 4 seed corner we have that classic favorite of young boys and those young at heart, toilet humor!! And in the 5 seed corner, coming to us all the way from across the pond, overquoted to hell and back, Monty Python references! WHO WILL WIN IN THIS EPI-wait one of these guys was in Smash Brothers? AKJ predix Ike vs Black Knight with 55.55% (Note to my loyal fan: I don't believe this hubbub about "smartvoterfaqs" making a return and I think Ngamer is crazy. For this to be an issue there'd have to be some actually good rivalries in the bracket. In 4 out of 5 cases here I don't think the team is necessarily stronger than the sum of its parts. I'd love to be proven wrong since it'll make the contest more interesting, but there you have it) Dante’s Analysis I could honestly see this next match going either way. I just checked my two brackets, and despite filling them out moments apart from each other when the bracket was released, I had different winners for both. Conker pretty much has the poo going for it, with a few actual fans. Ike has a partner that will be absolutely worthless to him, with a few actual fans that are louder. I don’t foresee this being a 50/50 back and forth nailbiter, but whoever wins will probably be in the 60%ish range. Here I am giving a write-up for this for the first time, and my english kind of sucks so here's hoping that what I wrote here is understandable enough. So, we've got Ike and the Black Knight facing Conker and a big pile of **** in the first round. As someone who nominated and supported both of these rivalries, I couldn't pass on the opportunity to give my take on this. You know what? I had a somewhat lengthy write-up here (yes, longer than this), but the more I look into this match (and the match picture for Ike/BK, amazing take on the rivalry, whoever did that), the more I'm convinced that I'm right. History shows: Conker? Sucks. Conker beating Zidane, even in the day? Not happening. Ike? Beat Zidane in a day match in the last CB. We could count facts forever, want more? Conker's Bad Fur Day got roflstomped by Perfect Dark of all things (Rare SFF sounds like a very weird reason for this, an FPS SFFing a platformer?); Pikachu trashed poor Banjo so hard in 2010, I'd find it weird if Conker was stronger than Banjo. rivalry itself. Allow me to introduce the Great Mighty Poo, if I may: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GuMXU_qGfU. Scary threat there, isn't it? Unfortunately, I'm afraid not many people know about how hilarious it really
is, and in the end the GMP ends up being just that, a big mountain of
feces with teeth, which isn't bad joke-vote material per se, but when
you're facing a well-liked Brawl character in the day, that just doesn't
make the cut. The Black Knight might not add much there, but it looks
badass enough and it has some small Brawl exposure in the form of a
trophy and a theme song for the Castle Siege stage, heh, better than
nothing I guess. So yeah, I could even foresee this almost going the WWF No Mercy/Path of Ra diance way, but I'm giving Conker the benefit of doubt, mostly because of joke votes that will probably benefit from lower votals and the fact that the poor guy has always been stuck against elites/noble niners in his short contest career, so who knows? Might be giving him little credit and make a fool of myself here. Nah, Conker sucks. (3) Kirby/Meta Knight vs. (6) Jill Valentine/Nemesis It'll soon be a decade since Jill beat Kirby, and I expect Kirby to even the score tonight. Last contest Kirby brushed aside Rikku and Vivi before reaching 45% on Sonic, while Jill was doubled by Samus. Nemesis probably brings more "rivalry factor" than Meta Knight, but Meta Knight is, I expect, fairly strong when not stuck behind SFF, so I expect their contributions will balance out. A night match should favour Resident Evil against Smash-based Nintendo heavily, even accounting for Kirby's strong start. Plugging Kirby '10 and Jill '10 into the x-stats calculator gives 56% in favour of Kirby, which I can't imagine being miles away from the result.
