Varia Division: Round 3 - Match 105 – (1) Samus Aran vs. (13) Sub-Zero Moltar’s Analysis Samus Round 1 - 78.69% vs. Prince Round 2 - 67.52% vs. Jill The Queen delivers yet again Sub-Zero Round 1 - 53.86% vs. Tidus Round 2 - 59.06% vs. Roxas Roxas gets rocked Well, Subby has had a decent run, but Samus ends him here. Jill got 67% in her match, so Sub should do a little bit better here. C’mon Samus look good for the Cloud upset! Moltar’s Bracket: Samus > Tidus (close enough) Moltar’s Prediction: Samus: 65% - Sub-Zero: 35% Lopen’s Analysis Sub-Zero throws an ice ball and Samus is like I KNOW ICE WITH ICE and shoots her ice beam. The results are the blue bars you see in the match. Who can produce more ice? My money's on Samus. Sub-Zero has to do that whole gathering Ki crap or whatever, whereas Samus just shoots. Lopen's prediction: Samus with 65.10% Transience’s Analysis After a good set of matches, we're back to midcarders vs. Noble Niners. Sub-Zero always seems to get a couple of good matches before being fed to someone entirely out of his league. First Auron, then Sonic/Squall/Sora and now Samus. Beyond that, there's not much to say. Samus beat Scorpion 65/35 in a fourway match where Scorpion had every conceivable bracket advantage. Sub-Zero's stronger than Scorpion but won't have the same kind of bracket advantage. Samus has had a couple of really nice performances so far and is always at her best when against non-Square/Nintendo midcarders, so I expect this to be another big one for her. transience's prediction: Samus with 64.58% Ngamer’s Analysis Quickie w/ Ng: Subby seems to collapse against tougher competition, and Samus dominates this pic. I'll say he avoids the doubling here... but BARELY. Ngamer Says: Samus > Subby, 66.37% |
Kleenex’s Analysis What's that? There's some contest matches today? Sorry, can't hear you over all this Final Fantasy XIII. Good thing it's a boring day. Sub-Zero did his thing last round making Roxas look like a chump (though after Sora's performance...) and that's all good and well, but it's Samus. This is going to be just like the first 6 matches of the round. Zzzzzzz. Bracket: Samus Favorites: Samus Prediction: Samus with 63.11% Red Sox’s Analysis We now enter 3 less interesting matches before we get to Snake vs. Pikachu (sprite round edition) and of course the match of the round, Sephiroth vs. Missingno. Sub-Zero is a solid midcarder, but Samus is very very strong. She's been the most consistently strong member of the non-Clinkeroth Noble Nine since 2003, and she will win this match easily. I think perhaps a little more highly of Samus than most people, and think she has a good shot of matching her percentage against Jill last round. Both characters have fairly even trends, and are a bit better during the day, so they shouldn't make much difference here. I figure Auron gets low 40s on Samus, and Sub-Zero has demonstrated repeatedly that he is around 40% on Auron, so I'll go with the doubling here, but not quite go with Samus beating her mark from last round: Prediction: Samus with 66.88% Upset Potential: 0% Upper Bound: Samus with 70% Lower Bound: Samus with 63% Guest’s Analysis - Luis_Sera89 There’s one very likely way this match will head, simply due to the two characters facing off - near enough bang on expectations. Samus has arguably always been the most consistent top tier character in these contests, and since his debut back in ’06, Subby has also been one of the most reliable performers around. Neither seems to have a bad match without good reason, and both tend to look impressive in both victory and defeat. This contest has been no different. Samus crushed Prince as expected, and easily dealt with Jill, whilst Subby comfortably despatched Tidus in a match in which he started as the Guru underdog, and had no problems at all with Roxas. All rather pedestrian really. Expect this match to be uneventful, but you probably already knew that. Subby may get a slightly higher percentage than usual due to his classic ninja sprite, but not by an eyebrow-raising margin. This is all on Samus to continue her good run before the showdown with Cloud. An outright win is still more than unlikely, no matter how poor Cloud has looked, but clearing the 45% mark with something to spare could still very much be on the cards. Surely some of that was Brawl and some was Sonic trying to stay ahead of Squall, but I still say it was mostly Sub-Zero being a high recognition guy who can dominate the lower tiers but crumbles when the big boys arrive on scene. Now in '08 he went from holding Auron to 59% to letting him score... 63% on him in the next round. Samus defeating Cloud would be idiotic, for two major reasons: -Final Fantasy VII is better than any Metroid game. -If Samus does well it will prove nothing about the Metroid series, and will simply prove that this site has turned into an SSB frenzy, which would be stupid. Varia Division: Round 3 - Match 106 – (14) Jecht vs. (10) Zelda Moltar’s Analysis Jecht Round 1 - 52.70% vs. Phoenix Round 2 - 56.16% vs. Ratchet Jecht not looking strong at all. Zelda Round 1 - 70.67% vs. Travis Round 2 - 62.11% vs. Ezio I’m not impressed here either. 14 vs. 10 alright let’s go Jecht barely beat Phoenix. Jecht failed to handily beat Ratchet. No way is Jecht touching Zelda. Granted, Zelda hasn’t looked great this contest, especially since Kirby easily beat Vivi who easily beat Altair. If Ezio is around that level (which honestly seems really high considering he only got 60% on Simon Belmont), then Zelda should beat Jecht by a bigger margin than she beat Ezio by. Zelda's way stronger than Jecht. Zelda's stronger in the daytime. Jecht's got the advantage of FF13 being released on the day of the match, but I don't think that matters much. Aeris had FF12 released the day after her match with Zelda and Zelda beat her as badly as she did Yuna. FF13's got more hype and more excitement behind it, but Jecht still isn't in Zelda's league. Bracket: Zelda Favorites: Zelda Prediction: Zelda with 65.57% Red Sox’s Analysis Here's an easy win for Zelda. It'll tell us where Jecht, Phoenix, and Ratchet are- I think they are pretty weak. Ratchet's always been low to mid fodder before this contest, and Phoenix has probably been high fodder. That this is a day match should help Zelda run up the margin even more.
