Character Battle VIII Contest Analysis Crew - Part 6
From: LeonhartFour | #200 I think Terra would win, just because of the whole "Hero > Villain" thing that always happens. --- Currently NOT on the CBVIII Leaderboard v_v Dante > Cloud: ITS NOT HAPPENING |
Kefka should be the stronger of the two, even if today kind of says something different. or better yet new square deboost bowser/squall who ya got --- wheresoever you go, go with all your heart |
Squall! Squall to the bitter end! Man, I remember back in 2003-2005, Squall/Bowser was a pretty debated match! --- "Stay with me until the end. Please." "Not until the end. Always." |
From: LinkMarioSamus | #184 Make no mistake, I have Squall in my bracket, but she is my favorite. Incidentally, I had to run to the crew topic as soon as I was able to vote and saw Squall only pulling 62%. I was convinced I had completely overestimated Squall and the others would be LOLing at it, but I was comforted to see others go higher than me and no one go under 69% --- Maybe PICS NAO later, WTF do you think this is, Neopets or something! yeah, I guess today suggests Bowser > Squall. but remember how Bowser rose to heaven during the day against Kefka? Squall should hit 65 at least here. --- xyzzy |
either way, I feel like every match this round suggests Bowser beating Sora. that should be a good one. --- xyzzy |
Yeah,
Squall should improve. Kefka was still over 40% against Bowser at this
point. Squall's day vote isn't as good as Bowser's, but it can't be as
bad as Terra's. --- "So cold. I am always by your side." "There ain't no gettin' off of this train we on!" |
Plus,
I don't know if this is really New Square looking bad or what. Squall
did just fine against Akuma in round 1, and unless Ken beats Akuma with
56% or better indirectly (which I would doubt), Squall still looks
stronger than Ganondorf. --- "I can set you free, mate." "My freedom was forfeit long ago!" |
Samus to the finals get ready for this --- xyzzy |

it wouldn't be that bad if I were away for a long time and wouldn't

Midgar Division: Round 2 - Match 93 – (1) Sephiroth vs. (8) Vincent Valentine Moltar’s Analysis Sephiroth Round 1 - 71.80% vs. Marth The winning pretty boy. Vincent Round 1 - 77.44% vs. Guybrush Our yearly Guybrush beat down. Well this match sucks, but you already knew that once you looked at the bracket for the first time. Vincent will get wasted by Seph here in a nasty SFF beatdown. Just like Woli, we’ve seen this before. http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2920 The SFF won’t be as bad as that match implies, but still…yeah. Also I doubt it’s going to be like Terra resisting SFF and “overperforming” on Squall today. Not only does Terra have reason to boost, but that was also New Square vs. Old Square, and we don’t tend to see much craziness there. This right here is same game badass SFF stuff. Moltar’s Bracket: Sephiroth > Vincent Moltar’s Prediction: Sephiroth: 70% - Vincent: 30% Lopen’s Analysis Fun fact every match I've changed from my bracket when my prediction was still in contention aside from Big Boss has cost me a point! Damn you Zero. ... already done a Seph/Vincent fanfic. Don't care to do another one! Too many matches in this contest.. Let it end already jeez. SFF !! Lopen's prediction: Sephiroth with 70.00% Transience’s Analysis So, we've got this match between two top-10 guys. Sounds good, right? Well, it's going to be a SFF beatdown. it's not just any normal SFF beatdown, either: Seph and Vincent are both brooding badass looking girly dudes who are tortured and dark. They have the exact same appeal in the exact same game. It gets worse: we've seen this match before and Vincent got annihilated. The only interesting thing is that Sephiroth never conforms to expectations so who knows what kind of percentage we might get here. Wake me up when we get to the glitch against the annoying dinosaur. transience's prediction: Sephiroth with 68.51% Ngamer’s Analysis Quickie w/ Ng: He killed with 76% directly the last time we saw this matchup... but please tell me no one's putting any stock in that '07 result. Count on Vince to capitalize on some anti-votes and look much better as a result. Ngamer Says: Sephiroth > Vincent, 67.13% |
Kleenex’s Analysis Hey, we saw this match before! It looked a little something like this. http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=2920 Not a whole lot to say here. Vincent's a strong dude, but he got a garbage bracket placement and gets the short end of the stick here against one of the 7-8 characters that could actually beat him. What not much you can do. On a related note, I predict...8 topics over the course of this match complaining about there being too many Final Fantasy characters in this contest or something about FF7 sucking. Bracket: Sephiroth Favorites: Sephiroth Prediction: Sephiroth with 76.17% Red Sox’s Analysis This match is one of the worst set-ups in contest history. Vincent was our presumed Noble Nine Challenger #1, and he didn't get a match against any of the lower Noble Niners. He didn't get a match with a fellow near-elite either. Not even a mid-Noble Niner to see how strong he is, or even a midcarder. No, Vincent gets to blowout Guybrush Threepwood in round 1 and is then promptly fed to Sephiroth, one of 2 characters who are kryptonite to him, in round 2. I was going to go with Sephiroth in the high 60s, then I remembered Cloud/Squall, so I'll have to go with higher. Prediction: Sephiroth with 73.20% Upset Potential: 0% Upper Bound: Sephiroth with 77% Lower Bound: Sephiroth with 66% Guest’s Analysis - Smashy BUTBUTBUT VINCENT ALREADY MET SEPHIROTH BACK IN '07 AND GOT TRIPLED!!!!!! lol4ways Still, even with Vincent's Round 1 beatdown there should be no questions that Sephiroth wins anyways. With Missingno pulling that shocker, however, this match gains some of relevance. Sephiroth vs Missingno is also at night, and if Sephiroth doesn't manage to convincingly put away Vincent in the same 12-hour time period as that match, that Glitch>One-Winged Angel hype train (which I'm not sold on... yet) will get much more serious. I'll say Vincent resists enough to avoid the doubling, but Seph using that same-game SFF keeps him safely above 60%. If Vincent's insta-kill glitch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At1-oFqawvc) manages to put this lower, however... think about how a much bigger glitch might do! Prediction: Sephiroth>Vincent, 62.70% Crew Consensus: Sephiroth skewers Vincent |
He
killed with 76% directly the last time we saw this matchup... but
please tell me no one's putting any stock in that '07 result. Kleenex's Analysis Prediction: Sephiroth with 76.17% Aw yeah then I remembered Cloud/Squall, so I'll have to go with higher. Yeah, but Cloud's probably more potent with SFF than Sephiroth is. Cloud put up 72.20% on Auron in 2003 and Sephiroth put up 67.70% in 2004. Not to say Sephiroth can't break 70% here. It's within the realm of possibility. --- "The great GF...Bahamut." "...GF? I...? Using my powers...It is you humans...I fear..." |

it doesn't even matter, it's a screwy SFF poll. not taking anything away from this. --- xyzzy |
Sephiroth
not being able to SFF Vincent is bad news, though it doesn't matter too
much. Link, Cloud, and Sephiroth have been set for years. --- wheresoever you go, go with all your heart |

Midgar Division: Round 2 - Match 94 – (5) Yoshi vs. (13) Missingno Moltar’s Analysis Yoshi Round 1 - 76.62% vs. Jak Ratchet laughs at this. Missingno Round 1 - 50.29% vs. Crono Hey Crono lost to a glitch let’s point and laugh. In some ways, Yoshi is a tougher opponent for Missingno even though he’s weaker than Crono. He’s Nintendo, he’s Mario, and he’s a fan-favorite. It’ll be harder to rally against Yoshi than Crono as well. Don’t think that’s going to matter when it comes down to it though. The beast is unleashed, and Yoshi lacks the power to stop it. I doubt it’ll win by much though. Yoshi should keep it close, but it’s not going to be the back-and-forth fest that it was last round. The rallying last round made Missingno seem far stronger than it should have been, and I doubt it gets that level of intense rallying against Yoshi. Moltar’s Bracket: Crono > Yoshi (whoops) Moltar’s Prediction: Yoshi: 49% - Missingno: 51% Lopen’s Analysis Logic says that MissingNo should walk over Yoshi because Corno is stronger than Yoshi. I don't agree. Three reasons. 1. Yoshi's got the widesweeping appeal. Better at blowing things out-- or taking potential joke votes. See Pika vs L. 2. CT has been crap this contest so Yoshi vs Crono probably would probably end up close in a day match. 3. "Legit" MissingNo fans are more likely to overlap with Yoshi fans than Crono fans. That being said before you guys pull the bias card, I'm actually voting MissingNo in this match. Granted that's more cause I don't like Yoshi but hey! Lopen's prediction: Yoshi with 51.39% Transience’s Analysis I think this is Missingno's hardest match until he gets to Snake. Harder than Crono, harder than Sephiroth. Yoshi is beloved. It is difficult to find people that don't know Yoshi, or people that flat out dislike him. Crono is a bit niche and a lot of people don't know who he is; Sephiroth has anti-fans galore. But Yoshi? He's one of the strongest anti-joke characters we have; he's iconic, well known, liked, all that good stuff. Yoshi would lose handily to Crono or Seph, but against a weird joke he's got a great chance to do well. Now, if Missingno's grown a bandwagon since his last match then Yoshi will be in trouble, but as it is I think he should be looked at as the favourite here. Crono's not iconic. Crono's not universal. Yoshi is. If Missingno wins this then I'm picking him over Sephiroth without blinking. Snake and Samus would be the only things stopping it from making the finals. transience's prediction: Yoshi with 54.61% Ngamer’s Analysis Quickie w/ Ng: I've always thought you're a fool if you expect a joke character's strength to be consistent and that a win over Yoshi was never a sure thing as a result. Still like Mizno here, but I'm thinking he'll have to work for it. (Also it's so hard to root against someone with the potential to take out Seph.) Ngamer Says: Missingno > Yoshi, 51.47% Kleenex’s Analysis MissingNO is right. Get this thing outta my bracket. Unfortunately, that's probably gonna have to wait until next round. Some people are using Pikachu > L-Block last year as reasoning for why Yoshi might oust the glitch this afternoon. It a possibility, so I'm not completely ruling it out. Yoshi's probably a bit harder to rally against that Crono is because SQUARE CHARACTERS SUCK AND ALWAYS WIN THESE CONTESTS. The problem is, there's enough of a strength disparity between Yoshi and Crono (or is there?!), that I don't think it's enough to make up the difference. |
This
match should be very telling about what we can expect from this thing
in future matches should it make it that far. If Missingno rocks
Yoshi's face, then Sephiroth could be in trouble. If he picks up a
modest win, he'll probably be stopped (though we can't rule it out
because there's no one easier to rally against than Sephiroth). Best case scenario, Yoshi takes care of business and we can get this stupid thing out of here early. Wouldn't bet on it, though. Bracket: Crono Favorites: Yoshi Prediction: Missingno with 56.12% Red Sox’s Analysis This is the biggest match of round 2! Missingno pulled off a shocking win over Crono last round with the help of a few thousand rallied votes, and now he continues on his path towards winning the contest. Yoshi is weaker than Crono, but he's a scary opponent because he's a poor enemy for a joke character. If Missingno gets past here, he should look good against Sephiroth win or lose, but against Yoshi there's potential for him and Crono to look very bad. Missingno should have this though, because he doesn't even need to get a bandwagon beyond what he already got last round. I'm nervous about this, because failure would make Crono look very bad. You better not lose this, Missingno. Prediction: Missingno with 56.00% Upset Potential: 5% Upper Bound: Missingno with 62% Lower Bound: Missingno with 50.01% Guest’s Analysis - Luis_Sera89 Well, I have Yoshi winning here in my bracket. Only difference is that I thought he’d be beating Crono in the day rather than Missingno! The reasoning there was the likelihood of the continuation of a steady CT drop, combined with it’s horrendous day vote giving Yoshi the edge, but then Missingno went and potentially proved that a whole round earlier than I thought it would. There are two trains of thought here as far as I’m concerned. 1) Crono dropped off with Magus and co. and a decently strong Missingno took advantage of a close match in the day to rally itself to victory; or 2) Crono’s drop was minimal, and Missingno is near elite or better and took advantage of a close match etc. A lot of people in the aftermath of the match, and still are, surprisingly eager to assume the latter of the two scenarios, which I consider a lot more farfetched than the former. Before the rallying, day match and everything else that went with it, that still leaves Missingno’s strength at something far higher than I’d ever be willing to put him at. It makes him the strongest Pokemon entrant for starters, which I find hard to swallow, and indeed stronger than a whole lot of other contest mainstays too, like, for example, Yoshi. I don’t know if people just immediately pronounced Missingno as the next L-Block and have pegged him as being strong as a result, but that’s taking more things for granted and is a little more wishful/negative (delete as appropriate) thinking than simply assuming round 1 was more indicative of Crono’s weakness than anything else. The continued decline of a character we’ve been seeing for years is a much easier sell than something, a joke character of all things, coming out of the blue and staking it’s unquestioned claim for overall victory in round 1. We’ve seen it before after all. Tifa immediately jumps to mind. As for the match though, Missingno didn’t beat Crono by any more than I thought Yoshi would, and rather than ponder over the intricacies of “SMB > Pokemon”, and any momentum Missingno may have gathered, I’m just going to say they largely cancel each other out. Sephiroth, never mind Link, needn’t worry too much here. Yoshi with 52.6% Crew Consensus: Yoshi has some good support, but the glitch is the slight Crew favorite |
