few contests, it was 128 entrants. this contest has been pretty damn
unpredictable thus far for being 1v1, and it isn't the 12 hour format

Chaos Division: Round 1 - Match 14 – (3) GlaDOS vs. (14) Fawful Moltar’s Analysis GlaDOS I’m still hurt over the fact I never got that cake. Fawful Wow, Fawful finally makes it in. I wanted to see him years ago, but now…eh. Portal characters got lucky here. Sandal was garbage and Cube wrecked it, and GlaDOS also drew an easy opponent. Fawful is from the Mario and Luigi series, which isn’t that big for a Mario series on GameFAQs. Meanwhile, anything from Portal gets lots of love. Like Cube, GlaDOS shouldn’t have a hard time here. Fawful isn’t going to be as weak as Sandal…but then again not many characters are. Moltar’s Bracket: GlaDOS > Fawful Moltar’s Prediction: GlaDOS: 62% - Fawful: 38% Lopen’s Analysis Might be alone here, but I think that the Cube getting 80% here speaks well for GlaDOS. I mean I know it's a CUBE but hey I gotta figure some of its support comes from the fans, right? Fawful meanwhile is some jobber from some second string Mario games. Guy's gonna be Lucas tier on the pecking order methinks. I see a left field blowout coming. Day match might hurt, but you got GlaDOS with her cake and Fawful's all like I HAVE FURY and man who are the kiddies gonna vote for? Make cake not war. Lopen's prediction: GlaDOS with 67.33% Transience’s Analysis This match is a disembodied voice vs. the weakest Nintendo character to ever make the character battle. Where to start? Well, Glados wins in almost every category. Portal is more popular than Mario and Luigi 1 or 3. Glados is more liked, more iconic, more suited to GameFAQs's tastes. Fawful is a likable villain, but he's just not that well-known or popular. Mario and Luigi 3 finished fourth in the DS GOTY. Not really a great showing. Glados's problem is that 50% of the voters are going to have to recognize her from the name (never spoken in-game) or the picture (not exactly the first thing you think of when you think of Glados). She has the single biggest picture disadvantage of all time thanks to having no real physical form. Are Portal fans well-versed enough to give her a win? I say yes, and with ease. Fawful is just a joke. I'd take Lucas over Fawful. If Glados is recognizable to the majority of the voters here, I'd expect a doubling if not worse. If she isn't? Glados still wins with 55% or so. Not really sure what to say about this match. GlaDOS wasn't able to beat Falco who went on to prove that he kinda sucks. Fawful is untested and is the main villain from a game that just sold more than half a million copies over the holidays. Hmmm. I've got GlaDOS in my bracket, but I'm not really that confident about it. I just don't feel like Fawful has the exposure he needs to win this. I have a tough time seeing either of these guys getting 50% in a match. I'm sticking with GlaDOS by a slim margin, just because I think Portal is probably more popular than the Mario & Luigi series around here, but this could really go either way. Red Sox’s Analysis Here we have a Portal character against a Nintendo 4th tier character. Fawful is a newcomer, so it’s hard to say how strong he’ll be, though my guess is he’ll be quite weak. GlaDOS did pretty well against Falco last year, putting up 42.72% against him. While both of them overperformed on Vincent in that round 1 match, GlaDOS’s number against Falco should be enough for her to easily dispatch Fawful, even in a day match. Haven't looked at these "early returns" yet. Ngamer's Fantastical Writeup Well now- anyone complaining about how "trendless" these 12 hour matches have been sure got a treat yesterday! In one of the biggest swings in recent memory, Rikku took Kirby all the way from 65% at the 5 minute mark to just 57% by the dead of night. Remember how last week I was discussing the "dreaded Nintendo Night Vote" as potentially the big storyline for this season? Thanks to drawing a Square opponent we finally got to see it in action yesterday, and baby, it was brutal. Not only did Kirby lose over a half dozen updates outright, but check these stats: * if you throw out the Nintendo-heavy first two hours, Kirby scores only 56.38% * Kirby managed only 53.05% of the votes cast outside of the US * Kirby managed only 50.15% of the votes cast outside North America Now, admittedly not all dNNV swings are going to be this wild, as these were extreme circumstances (Kirby draws much of his strength from SSB, which the rest of the world appears to have soured on post-Brawl, and no one rocks the dead hours nearly as hard as new Square). Still, there's no doubt that this will be one of the biggest storylines to keep an eye on from here out, especially given how Kirby didn't even really bounce back with the morning vote like I'd expected him to (he could only push himself from the low 57s to the mid 57s). Alright, well that recap went on far too long, but that's fine since I have almost nothing to say about the current match! Some folks are putting faith in Portal after the big number WCC put up a few days back, but I remain convinced about that result being 90% Sandal's Tanner-like patheticness rather than any trend in favor of joke characters. The trouble is, Fawful looks goofy in this pic as well, and the Mario & Luigi series strikes me as "niche" enough that I'm not even sure more people have played it than Portal, meaning it would take a good deal of anti-voting to pull off this upset. And is it really possible to "anti-vote" GlaDOS? L-Block, sure, but GlaDOS doesn't seem nearly so love/hate to me; more like love/indifferent, or love/who? Give me someone from Mario RPG (Geno would be a fine choice) or even one of the Paper Marios and I'd gladly stick with my "death of the jokes" stance, but nay, can't put my faith in an unknown entity from Mario's third tier RPG series. Chaos Division: Round 1 - Match 15 – (7) Vivi vs. (10) Donkey Kong Moltar’s Analysis Vivi Vivi’s had some disappointing losses over the last 2 years, but the Black Mage could turn things around for this Contest. Donkey Kong Speaking of disappointments… Donkey Kong: Yo yo yo! What up peeps it’s ya boy DK on the mic. Today, we gonna have some real talk bout my highly anticipated rematch against Vivi. Moltar: Highly anticipated? The last time we saw this match, Vivi easily won. No one cares about seeing this match again. DK: Molty, my bro, you kiddin me? Da people have been DYIN’ to see us duke it out once again. This time, ya boy D-Kong is gonna rock and sock Vivi’s connection back to wizard skool. Moltar: I doubt that. DK: Man, did you see Vivi last year? He sucked it up against Snake and lost to Zero in R2! Moltar: At least he MADE it to Round 2. You didn’t even show up in your Round 1 match and let Cube and Tidus walk all over you! DK: Ey now, dey got lucky, dats all. This year is da year of Da Ape! Moltar: No it’s not. I will not let you plug your album and do a parody of some popular song! That’s not happening this time! Quick, roll the percentages! Moltar’s Bracket: Vivi > Donkey Kong Moltar’s Prediction: Vivi: 59% - Donkey Kong: 41% Lopen’s Analysis We saw this match years ago. Vivi won with about 56%. The question is, do things change, and if so, by how much? Well since then DK's looked a bit more respectable, and there was a NINTENDO BOOST. But that's all died out, and this contest, with the exception of Kirby, has me doubtin whether the Nintendo boost even exists anymore. Well, more like I think Sonic/Mega Man and Nintendo are joined at the hip and Link/Mega Man X looked bad. Vivi hasn't really seemed impressive or disappointing in the last few contests. And DK and Vivi seem like timeless characters. So what am I leading up to...? *puts on sunglasses* The more things change, the more they stay the same. Ha ha ha... yeah. Lopen's prediction Vivi with 56.47% Transience’s Analysis Hey, a rematch! In more than one way! In 2004, Vivi vs. DK was one of the most debated matches of the contest (mostly because that bracket sucked). Vivi jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. In 2007, Vivi went up against Tidus in a weird fourway and came out as the clear winner. In 2008, DK went up against Tidus and got embarrassed. So yeah, there is no reason to expect DK to be able to compete with Vivi today. I always have this uneasy feeling about Vivi -- FF9 is not all that popular and he seems like he could implode at any second -- but against the choke artist that puts Magus to shame, I have no concerns whatsoever. It's just a matter of knowing how high to expect Vivi to climb to. It's a night match which helps Vivi, but DK is also a night beast for whatever reason. DK just makes no sense.
