transience's analysis Santa? Really? Santa is for kids. In other words, Nintendo fans! Link has a sword. Santa does not. Link has a boomerang. Santa does not. Link has a hookshot. Santa does not. Link is cute. Santa is not. Santa has a sleigh that can take him all around the world, but Link has the Zelda 1 whistle or the flute from LTTP or god knows what from all those 3d Zelda games that I never played. Santa's sleigh also only works one day a year. Link's got a god damn spinner that does coolass crap. If we're talking about things we're only going to use once, the spinner wins. Link screams random attack crap. Santa has ho ho ho. Random attack crap wins. Asia does not give a crap about Santa. Europe will vote Link in droves, too. And South America? Don't get me started on South America. A sleigh? They don't even have snow! The only reason Santa's got a chance here is because Link always wins and because a third-tier Zelda game was somehow just named Game of the Decade. Going against the grain is one thing GameFAQs likes to do and they might do it here. Santa is just ridiculous enough for them to vote for it. But this is Link. Link vs Santa Alright so Link wins another GameFAQs Contest, but this time he has the audacity to do so on Christmas Eve, and Santa doesn't take too kindly to another fictional character stepping on his toes like that! THE CALLOUT results in a true clash of the titans- the most popular character in video game history versus the most popular fictional character in world history! Talk about perfect timing for a perfectly silly, fun little bonus match. Seriously, how awesome is SB for letting us go ahead with this? And how awesome are WE for putting together some of the best match pics I've ever seen to help make this little bit of nonsense extra special? ANYWAYS, Santa's got a few things trending in his favor for this ultimate showdown. For one the poll drops with perfect timing- everyone has just gotten out of school or work for the rest of the week (if not the rest of the year) and will be arriving at GameFAQs in the Christmas spirit. For two we've already seen how silly the site likes to get with Bonus matches; L-Block was the hottest thing on the internet after taking down Link and Cloud, but got creamed by ? Block the next day, and of course we all remember the epic clash with Solano. Unfortunately for Golly Old St. Nick, this is Link's home turf, and the guy just doesn't lose here. A moment ago I was glancing at some results from this last season, and... 68% on Mega Man? 70% on Sonic? Jeez, Link! Normally I'd say that having just won the Contest would be a minus, but "Link always wins" backlash seems nearly impossible to generate for whatever reason, and it should be especially muted in this case since Brawl was "the bad guy" today and I saw alot more celebration over its defeat than disgust over MM being crowned king. I also think geolocations work in Link's favor for this one. Santa should get killed in Asia (or so I've been told) and the way he's being presented in these match pics seems slanted toward American traditions- and hoping to pry the USA from the hands of The Legend of Zelda is just asking for trouble. So give me a fairly easy Link win, but one that leaves some doubt as to whether stronger fictional characters like Batman or Homer Simpson will still be able to equal him this Summer! internet went out during FFX/MM, so I didn't get to send in an
analysis! Congrats to Majora's Mask, our Game of the Decade. Now I have
committed myself to beating OoT, MM, and WW once I get back to America
and finish my 3-D Mario playthrough, so get ready! Cool stats! Let's check how I did on the Crew Mistake matches. Rock Band 2/Deus Ex - Huge miss, of course. But I like to think I redeemed myself by instantly inventing SmartVoterFAQs after seeing this result, a trend that served me well in the two months that followed! Sonic Adventure 2/Street Fighter IV - Big miss, and frankly I still can't quite believe this happened in a day match. If SF4 had turned out to have some shocking hidden reserve of strength that would have been one thing, but with the clean loss to a UC2 that ended up sort of sucking... never would have expected Sonic could have turned that pathetic. Demon’s Souls/Mega Man 9 - Nailed this one, and called MM having respectable strength (as its good show on Okami proved) to boot. Actually I'm surprised the Crew got suckered into this one, only remembered like 2 people backing DS. Warcraft III/Morrowind - Called it correctly, but even I have to admit that I thought my pick was doomed after those terrible first 5 minutes. WWF No Mercy/Fire Emblem: PoR - ...wait, seriously? Had no idea the Crew was filled with so many REAL MEN. Yeah I called this right, but still don't feel great since I missed the percentage by like 20! Valkyria Chronicles/Disgaea - Went the wrong way here, and heck, I don't blame myself! Still say VC won based on top option/match pic advantage/cooler sounding name rather than anyone having actually played it. Pokemon R/S/E/Grand Theft Auto IV - Nailed it, though I must admit I didn't have a ton of confidence when I locked that Pokemon pick in! Marvel vs. Capcom 2/New Super Mario Wii - Missed by a country mile, as has been well documented. Golden Sun/Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Called it, but shucks, I still have a hard time believing this actually happened. Metal Gear Solid 2/Shadow of the Colossus - Another miss; did call for SotC to keep it close due to SVF, but wouldn't have picked the straight up win in 100 years. Kingdom Hearts II/Kingdom Hearts - Hit it right on the head! Without Ulti's favorable match pic, though, it's quite possible I'd have lost faith in my bracket and abandoned KH2. Metal Gear Solid 4/Shadow of the Colossus - Screwed it up despite trying to sell myself on SotC continuing the Cinderella run. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask/Pokemon G/S/C - Flip flopped three times, but ended up on the correct side by backing ZELDAFAQs here. If only my bracket could have said the same. Metroid Prime/Half-Life 2 - Was absolutely correct, of course! (Let's conveniently forget how I wouldn't have been able to say that in a Night Match.) Super Smash Bros. Melee/Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Welp, I explained how I would have picked Brawl in a Day Match (which now looks pretty smart), but thought Europe/Asia/Australia would favor Melee enough for it to take the Night. Whoops! Final Fantasy X/The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask - The one time in my life I give FFX the tiniest bit of credit, and look where it gets me. Super Smash Bros. Brawl/The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask - I'll never doubt you again, Zelda!
