I've got a weird feeling about this match. I've always felt like Smash is so popular because it's the most likable game around, not because people adore it. put it up against Zelda 1v1 and that may come to show. add to it any Melee fallout and yeah, possible upset here.

Yeah, I kind of thought that we were going to have a Zelda-Zelda final as well. And we really have no idea how strong half these games are since TP and RE4 were taken out by Brawl and MGS4 last time (after taking out MGS3 the round before--lol 4ways), only for Brawl to be SFF'd into the ground by OoT.

All of this plays into my analysis. I just sent it in, and it's looooong.

Portal was tough for RE4

There’s a good chance at an upset here, especially after seeing Metroid Prime hang with Fallout for 3+ hours. RE4 is going to start strong and it’s a night game like FFX, so it may not die off as badly as Prime did.

Still, I’m going to favor FFX in this match. It’s the stronger game and has looked better overall. Plus it’s likely the big bracket favorite to take this match. I think RE4 is going to overperform a little, but the final result should be a positive one for FFX.

Again low on time (motivation?) but this one should be easy anyway. FFX wins. You got that uhhh GotD poll in the past where FFX beat it down, and it looked better last contest, and yeah, FFX is a favorite to win this contest right now.

Thinkin RE4 actually does the best against it of anyone. Gut or favoritism I dunno.

But yeah FFX wins.

Transience’s Analysis

I've never bought into the RE4 > FFX hype. This site has a clear hierarchy -- Nintendo > Square > other big series' > new IPs -- and I don't pick against that unless there is a good reason. I don't have a good reason to pick RE4 over FFX besides that ridiculous anti-FFX early vote and that won't be a problem for more than a few minutes. It might scare people at first though.

Truth be told, I might pick some lower-tier entries like FF6 over RE4. I just don't trust it against a big-name game. It did manage to edge out KH2 but look what TP just did to it. Not feeling this one.

Leon’s Analysis

Let’s be honest: RE4’s only chance is to get some ridiculous board vote and hold on for dear life the rest of the way, maybe getting some rally power to boot or something. On its own, it doesn’t have the strength to beat FFX here. I don’t think that’s going to be enough though. While RE4 got a strong board vote against Portal, it was pretty much back down to normal by the end of the first hour. It falls off after the board vote pretty hard. It’d need a good, strong full hour to stand a chance, and I don’t think it’s going to get one. And while FFX has had rough board votes, it’s also managed to pretty much recover by the end of the first hour. This could be a pretty unique scenario though, so we’ll see. No way I’m not backing FFX here though! Contest winning performance coming right up, folks!

Well, this match was in question after the first couple rounds, but last round seems to have squashed most rumblings of an upset. Final Fantasy X has the time zone it needs to thrive, and it's probably inherently stronger than Resident Evil 4. That board vote's probably gonna be pretty ugly, though. The real question now is if FFX is going to have the chops to win the contest. Probably not.

Final Fantasy X vs Resident Evil 4

This is going to be the greatest 90 minutes in Contest history. Followed by the worst 630 minutes in Contest history. Yep, hate to admit it, but the RE4 upset wagon ran out of gas somewhere between FFX's insane "comeback" on Golden Sun and 4 underwhelming us versus Portal. Which is not to say that X wins this one going away; on the contrary I've got a ton of respect for Portal and if I were an FFX backer I wouldn't have seen much to like in that showing on FF9. I also think RE4's got some advantages here in terms of being the better SmartVoterFAQs option and will have a great chance at riding the "rally" or "underdog" or "sick of Square/Nintendo domination" wave to a good showing (as Snake has the last couple seasons).

Especially since we already know its going to have a great start due to it being a total mismatch versus X in that regard. But... sorry to say, I do still think FFX turns things around pretty handily once those opening 90 minutes are past. So let's go with
