Game of the Decade Contest Analysis Crew - Part 5
Kleenex’s Analysis This could end up being a fun upset. Again, MGS has been pretty mediocre (unless MGS4 changed that last night), and SotC managed to pull strength from somewhere. Much like yesterday, however, I think this is another case of the Metal Gear game being just a little too far ahead of its opponent's range in order to allow an upset. Kleenex's Prediction: Metal Gear Solid 2 with 55.78% Applekidjosh’s Analysis Man Shadow of the Colossus got a good first round matchup. I wish it was going to get blasted worse than it will, but unfortunately MGS2 isn't the fan favorite for some reason. I don't know, something about not playing as Snake? Whatever. The point is this is the Metal Gear division for a reason, SotC doesn't have a shot. AKJ says MGS2 > SotC with 54% Guest’s Analysis - UltimaterializerX I promised Big Bob I'd be 100% fair about this match, even though I was planning on doing that anyway. MGS2 is the favorite, but I don't think it's a favorite by all that much. Yes we can line up the first round and know this, and yes Banjo-Tooie would probably annihilate The Sims in a direct match -- so both matches having an equal percentage bodes badly for Shadow of the Colossus. However, there's two things being unsaid (well maybe other Crew people have brought them up, but I know from experience these guys don't collaborate ahead of time). One is how mediocre the MGS series has looked this contest. 2, 3 and 4 did nothing to impress me, and if there's going to be an upset it'll happen either in this match or with Diablo 2 beating MGS4. 3's path is set in stone. And yes I wrote this before the MGS4/D2 match so apologies there. Can SotC win this? Definitely, yes. It and RE4 are the two games here that have the whole "Game of the Decade" voting advantage going for them, maybe Portal if we're loose with the definition. Will it win? Probably not, though I won't be surprised if it does. The Banjo/Sims comparison is too hard to overlook, but something weird might happen anyway. PREDIX: MGS2 with 53%. Crew Consensus: MGS2 sweep. |
Is
it embarassing that I want to see MGS2 break 60% to trigger the wrath
of the SotC fanbase? Seriously, worst guys ever. They complain that
SotC is art and that it doesn't deserve to be losing to games that it
loses to because "IT IS ART!!!", and last year they did that (from what I
heard) when SotC was against one of the games primarily cited as a
video game with artistic qualities (Resident Evil 4 for those of you
keeping track). I want to see SotC face off against HL2, Okami, or
something like that for the same reason. Actually now that I think

whoops Transience’s Analysis By the round 1 numbers, SOTC has a real shot here. SOTC got the same percentage on The Sims as MGS2 got on Banjo Tooie. MGS2 has been disappointing in every poll it's been in over the past 5 years. MGS2 being the third MGS game in 48 hours probably hurts it, too. People are tired of these damn MGS games. I want to give this one to SOTC. It's just a bigger game for a lot of people. It is regularly listed by the media as the best PS2 game and is one of the most influential titles on the system thanks to its scale and draw distance. It's also much more popular than you'd think: it sold about a million copies and the next game from Team ICO is one of the three most hyped PS3 titles around. It might be #1, actually. MGS2... I don't know. I want to pick against it but I don't trust GameFAQs to abandon a top 5 series for an art game. MGS2 is an art game too (though I personally feel that Kojima went out of its way to troll MGS fans as much as he could) but.. yeah, GameFAQs sucks at trying out new things. By the numbers MGS2 kills SOTC and that's probably what happens here, but I have this weird bit of hope that we could actually try something new for once. because they are very loud, might make you think that SotC has a
