Fire Emblem vs Tony Hawk 2 This one is called just plain "Fire Emblem", so it should obviously be the strongest representative for the series. (Plus look at the size of that sword in the match pic, whoaaaaa. *GameFAQs swoons*) Let's call it 2% stronger than the last one. So this percentage really comes down to Tony Hawk versus the WWF. South Division: Round 1 - Match 39 – (7) Persona 3 vs. (10) Civilization IV Moltar’s Analysis Persona 3 obscure jrpg Civ IV pc game Matches between games that have no business winning a match are the worst kinds of matches. Civ takes this on most non-GameFAQs sites, but since this is GameFAQs, Persona 3 has a very real shot at winning. Civ games, as with most PC games, aren’t worth much on this site. It’s never looked good in polls, and earlier Civilization games always get destroyed in matches. Civilization is the bigger and more casual name here though. It’s also well-respected and well-liked among people who have played it. Persona is the familiar in this match. It’s weak, but it’s also on the rise thanks to Persona 4. I feel it’s the safe bet in this match seeing as 1) It’s the game that GameFAQs goes more for and 2) This contest has shown so far that the smaller fan favorites can beat the larger and more well-known game. I don’t feel good about either game here, and from what I’ve seen on the boards, most people don’t either. Just pick an option and hope it pays off, I guess. Like I said before, P3 feels a bit safer here, so I’ll go with that. Moltar’s Bracket: Persona 3 > Civ IV Moltar’s Prediction: Persona 3 - 51% Lopen’s Analysis The ultimate in fodder vs fodder. Seriously have no idea how to call this. Neither game has a remotely strong poll to their name. If you take series vs series, Persona 4 had some decent polls. I guess Persona 3 has the advantage of being a console game no one on the site has played vs a PC game no one on the site has played. On the other hand I'd call Civilization the “bigger name” in general, for whatever that's worth. In any case I'll just go with the higher seed say bracket voters decide it and call it a day. Who the hell knows, though. Would not be surprised to see this one go 60-40 or worse for either game. Damn this match for making me bank. Lopen's prediction: Persona 3 with 50.58% Transience’s Analysis Weird match here. Civilization has never had an impressive poll here; it's lost to pretty much everything before and got 90%'d by Zelda 1 (not that that says much). Still, it has way more name recognition than Persona, a cult RPG that's picked up a serious following lately but is still underground. Still, this is an RPG site and not a PC site - Persona has a bigger fanbase here than Civ does. But Civ is a lot more mainstream and better known amongst the average person. It's got name recognition and is one of the few 'game of the decade' type games in this contest. But Persona's got the actual fans. That's the crux of this argument - do you think Persona has a big enough fanbase here? Persona is like a poor man's Tales. Say what you will about non-Symphonia Tales games, but Vesperia still hung with Borderlands, a game I'd pick to wipe out Civilization. This is also a night match which should be advantage Persona due to a smaller vote total. I'll stick with Persona, I guess, but very little confidence here. transience's prediction: Persona 3 with 54.10% |
Leon’s Analysis Talk about the pillow fight of the contest, here it is, folks. How do you even pick this one? Persona 4 nearly beat SFIV last contest, but it seems to be the most popular game of the bunch, Persona 3’s recent PSP remake or not (because, well, it’s a PSP game). I’m not sure what kind of popularity Civ IV has here. The series is popular and has sold well overall, but I’m not sure what that means here. Sure, the series only got 10% on Zelda in the Series Contest, but Zelda and FF killed everything in that contest. Plus, do we think that the Persona series could’ve bested that by a wide margin? I don’t. So I’m going with Persona 3 here, although not with any real certainty. Maybe I’m wrong about Persona 3 being weaker than 4 because I know next to nothing about the series. If it is stronger, then its chances of winning increase by a good bit. I just figure Civ IV has to have SOME strength, even if it’s not much, considering how popular the series is and how this site has trended more toward western games over the last couple of years. I really have no idea though. Leonhart’s Embarrassing Confession of the Match: For a while, I thought the Persona games were porn games, though I don’t remember why I initially thought that! Maybe Albion was talking about them, so I just naturally assumed…! Leonhart’s Vote: Civilization IV. Leonhart’s Prediction: Persona 3 with 52.56% Kleenex’s Analysis Fodder against fodder, how exciting. The analyses for this match are probably going to be all less than a 5 sentences except for HM, who will write a full post about why Civ 4 has a chance to win this. I'm going to take the middle road and write 6 sentences. Both these games are weak. Civ got crushed in the series contest and very few people seemed to care about the release of Civ 5. Kleenex's Prediction: Persona 3 with 51.87% Applekidjosh’s Analysis Aw yeah, this is a very cool match for me because these are two games that I first played this year and I love them both now. These are both underappreciated imo. My dream is for one of these games to beat FF9 next round! Too bad it'll never happen... This is technically a toss up but the odds are definitely in Persona 3's favor. Not only is it an RPG vs a PC game, but it just had a critically acclaimed remake this year while Civ 5 was released to underwhelming reception. I just have no idea what to do with a percentage, though. After staring for a couple minutes I've decided to just randomly guess at AKJ says Persona 3 > Civ 4 with 54.44% Guest’s Analysis - War This match seemed a lot more interesting to analyze when I jumped to take this, but as it turns out there's virtually no information on either of these. Civ IV is vaguely around Call of Duty 2, and Persona 3 probably gets most of its strength from Persona 4. Persona 3 should be stronger at night, but Civilization seems vaguely stronger in Europe. Persona 3's far, far stronger sequel lost to what appears to be an SFFed pre-Hakan Street Fighter IV, while Civilization has never broken 11% in a contest match. However, Civilization has actually beaten something (even if that that something was Castlevania III) and should have vague amounts of strength that don't rely on the PSP or very minor series name-value, so why not. Ghandi with 55.14% Crew Consensus: Everyone except the Guest is going with Persona. |
