Seriously? No Mercy got more than half the Crew? And the only two who
thought it would even be as big a blowout as 60-40 were both on No
Mercy's side? ...Okay, the poor accuracy isn't so bad, because I was a
little worried that No Mercy would get a bandwagon going, too. But this

problem with people is that they don't realize that games are, for the
most part, independent. Characters are more closely linked because they
rise and fall based on how people feel about certain companies at the
time. Games aren't really going to do that. --- DFF |

Well
in my defense I openly admitted I had absolutely no idea how the match
would go and if I picked Fire Emblem I probably would've went with the
same percentage I went for with No Mercy. And yeah this result isn't surprising at all. But it makes me sad all the same :( --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

It might just be me Ulti but I was under the impression that every Pokemon is practically the same to each other. Zelda and Final Fantasy (especially FF) change a lot from one game to the other. This too. I'm not a Pokemon fan, but from what I've seen, every game is essentially the same just with "Roster" updates, kinda like a Madden. Have you spent any time outside of Board 8 and the Pro Wrestling board? Wrestling is derided everywhere, and no not every wrestling fan has played WWF No Mercy, rofl wtf. Most of the wrestling fans that come to GameFAQs are undoubtedly under 16 and have never heard of No Mercy. East Division: Round 1 - Match 23 – (7) Valkyria Chronicles vs. (10) Disgaea Moltar’s Analysis Valkyria Chronicles I remember when I wanted to play this game Disgaea Man, it’s like I have some sort of built-in negativity towards Disgaea-related matches. PS3 exclusive vs. ‘cult’ game, where have I seen this before? Hell, VC isn’t even that popular and is also Japanese like its opponent. VC hasn’t impressed in any polls before, whereas we know that Disgaea, weak as it may be, isn’t completely bottom of the barrel. I think that it being more known and liked specifically on GameFAQs will give it the edge here. I mean last contest we saw Prinny and Laharl not suck it up so at least Disgaea has that going for it. VC on the other hand? With the way PS3 games have been looking, I’ve got nothing. Moltar’s Bracket: Disgaea > VC Moltar’s Prediction: Disgaea - 58% Lopen’s Analysis Dunno why Disgaea has such overwhelming support in this match. I think people are just going with the devil they know. Fact is Disgaea has never shown itself to be anything but fodder. I mean Disgaea beat Fire Emblem that one time, so at least it has something under its belt, but I could see this match going either way. Got Valkyria Chronicles in the bracket but going with Disgaea here. But I smell BAD OMENS. BAD OMENS I SAY. Lopen's Prediction: Disgaea with 58.94% Transience’s Analysis Valkyria Chronicles is flat-out a better game. It's way more liked by its fanbase and if enough people have played it, it's going to win. Disgaea has built up a strong cult following but VC is a game that appeals to the masses. If VC were multiplatform I'd probably pick it. I'm pretty sketchy on its roots though - a fairly niche SRPG made well after the genre started to fade into obscurity. VC innovates on the formula and has some serious fans, but Disgaea is just a better-known game on a much more popular platform. PS3 exclusives have not looked so great this year. Demon's Souls did alright, but didn't win; Uncharted 2 kinda flopped in my opinion against a weak RPG; LBP couldn't compete at all against GTA3. They're all defensible losses, but none of them has really impressed either. Plus, this is a night match. Disgaea has one of the best night votes around. My only concern is that Disgaea's looked great recently in fourway matches. I'll be interested to see how it does in a 1v1 setting.. though I guess Laharl did beat Neku fairly easily, so yeah, it should be fine. transience's prediction: Disgaea with 56.89% Leon’s Analysis Welcome to yet another edition of “Laharl/Disgaea faces something else really weak and has a chance to win!” Seriously, Bacon must really like Disgaea or something. Laharl beat Nathan Hale (but lost to L-Block, why the heck did I pick Laharl here again) in 2007. He nearly advanced ahead of Ramza and Hogger in 2008. Disgaea got to beat Fire Emblem in 2009 (I think Bacon conspired to get rid of Golden Sun for this very reason). Then Laharl finally got his match win against Neku in the last Character Battle. And now Disgaea has a chance to get to round two. If it wins, hopefully Bacon will be happy and just let Laharl and Disgaea get squashed from now on. |

Disgaea probably will win. I originally had Valkyria Chronicles winning
here because I figured having the higher seed meant bracketeers would
side with it, and it could win on bracket votes. I also thought it was
more popular than it actually is, I guess because Board 8 has talked
about it a lot. Then I saw these two polls: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3353 http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3360 I know the first poll is sorta unfair because MGS4 and LBP are taking up 75% of the votes, but Valkyria Chronicles almost lost to Disgaea 3. Then it can’t even beat Lost Odyssey and pretty much gets doubled by TWEWY (whose star lost to Laharl last contest, if you’ll recall). I know we make too much out of GOTY polls way too often, but we don’t have much else to go on, and they’re not ENTIRELY unreliable. When something looks THAT bad, you can’t pick it, even against Disgaea. Still, this is fodder vs. fodder, so there’s no telling what will happen. Leonhart’s Embarrassing Confession of the Match: I’m going to be voting for Valkyria Chronicles simply because I know Vyse, Aika, and Fina are in it, and I’ve never even played the thing. Leonhart’s Vote: Valkyria Chronicles. Leonhart’s Prediction: Disgaea with 60.21% Kleenex’s Analysis What a match. Which entrant here sucks less. The answer? Disgaea. You can throw sales numbers and recency and whatever junk you want around in this match, but the simple fact is that Disgaea has more exposure. Its been around for years, its had multiple sequels, Laharl has won a match (yikes), and as a name it's just more well-known. I don't think too many people are entertaining a Valkyria Chronicles win here, but that line of thinking seems like looking for an upset just for the sake of an upset. I don't think Disgaea will stomp, but it should win with plenty of room to spare. Kleenex's Prediction: Disgaea with 59.81% Applekidjosh’s Analysis Guest’s Analysis - Black Turtle Valkyria Chronicles Obscure garbage Disgaea Slightly less obscure garbage Analysis: Man, this is essentially the Vyse/Laharl of 2010. You'll be hard pressed to find anybody outside of Board 8 who has even heard of these games, let alone care enough to vote for one. That said, Disgaea is probably the favourite to advance here, based solely on the fact that Laharl has at least shown to be not completely bottom of the barrel in recent years, coming close to beating Ramza, who by all means should have destroyed the lesser SRPG character. And the fact that I've never heard of Valkyria Chronicles can never be a good thing, and going for the game I've heard of over the game I haven't has already paid off (MM9/Demon Souls). Another match you can look at is Disgaea's round 1 loss to Melee and Windwaker last year, where it managed about 38% on the SFF'd Wind Waker and beat the crap out of Fire Emblem, although that can be chalked up to a severe SFF beatdown by the game that essentially brought Fire Emblem to North America. All I can definitively say about this match, is barring a 12-hour barnburner, this will likely be the most boring match of the contest. let the record show I sent this FOUR MINUTES after he posted these Alright I had every intention of backing Disgaea in this match, but two things have swayed me recently: One of them was Haguile made some KamikazePotato level arguments that swayed me toward VC. So since I hadn't even heard of Valkyria Chronicles until the contest started, and since I've sunk hundreds of hours into Disgaea (and even more into 2), I've come up with the winning strategy here! AKJ predicts Valkyria Chronicles over Disgaea with 55.00%. And if Disgaea wins? Valkyria Chronicles vs Disgaea Well, this is very obviously a "debatable in a who-knows-who-cares kind of way, since we don't have much good data on either entrant but they're both pathetically weak and it's only 1 point; don't stress out about it" match. HOWEVER, I don't think there's ever been a poll matching that description where I've felt more confident in the winner. VC has recency and was well liked by everyone who played it, but so precious few actually played it that you'd have to call it a niche title at best. "But wait, Disgeaa is the very definition of niche!"
