I still like WC3 here. California block should favor WC3 as much as
central time favored Morrowind (Mountain time ASV should only slightly
favor it), and Blizzard's second night vote is always killer. Not to mention UK going to sleep means that 63% over there gets, and yes, da rally. --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |
why does california favor wc3 so much? --- I'm too tired to drive anywhere anyway right now, do you care if I stay? Call me numbers. |
I'm assuming California has a pretty big competitive gaming scene Hence why SFIV was so heavily favored there too. I should move to California --- No problem! This is a cute and pop genocide of love! |

Perfect Dark vs Conker's Bad Fur Day Well would you look at that- it's my favorite game ever! Unfortunate that it has to start off against another game that I quite enjoy in Conker's BFD, but hey, at least this is a heck of a lot better than drawing Goldeneye in your 4pack or getting stuck in a match with the #3 game on the site, Banjo, and Majora's Mask. Basically what I'm saying is that PD has gotten incredibly unlucky in the past, and as a result a bunch of people are going to be surprised by the strength it puts on display this season. Let's not forget that this game earned a 5 seed here and has made both past Game Contests despite facing brutal competition each time (N64 and 1998-2000). Granted I put together a rally for the game in all three instances, but come on, let's not give me THAT much credit! Clearly PD has a very dedicated fanbase that will give it a nice boost under all (non-Zelda/non-Pokemon) circumstances. The interesting thing about this matchup is not only are these two of the N64 library's "end-of-life" gems, and not only were they both made by Rare, they've ALSO both been updated and upgraded and re-released for the 360 in the time since Rare was sold to Microsoft. The difference is, Conker was repackaged as a full-priced game on disc back in 2005 and sold horribly (it got bad word of mouth because Microsoft forced them to censor entire scenes that Nintendo had allowed in the original, killing the humor of the storyline), whereas PD was remade earlier this year and released for just $10 over Live (improved graphics, constant 60 FPS, online Challenges/Co-Op/Multi with up to 8 friends, buy it tonight!) and was a huge hit. So it's safe to say that Conker has been completely overshadowed in that regard, and it's probably also safe to assume that the remake did enough to wash the bad taste of Perfect Dark Zero (yeck) out of everyone's mouths. Long story short: PD crushes Conker tonight in a no-doubter- and watch out, it's going to put more of a scare into Call of Duty than you would expect next round! Perfect Dark - 66.67% --- thengamer.com/guru | thengamer.com/xstats | board8.wikia.com If I were you I'd search B8 for The Show, the cool Ng/yoblazer Contest podcast! |

East Division: Round 1 - Match 19 – (5) Perfect Dark vs. (12) Conker’s Bad Fur Day Moltar’s Analysis Perfect Dark So when’s the sequel coming? Conker A pile of shit Two N64 games, eh. This isn’t going to be pretty. Perfect Dark should not have a problem here, since it’s stronger, more popular, and brings about far more nostalgia than Conker’s BFD. Moltar’s Bracket: PD > Conker BFD Moltar’s Prediction: Perfect Dark - 68% Lopen’s Analysis Well honestly, it's a Conker game. This could be Special Dark and it'd win over it. Yes, I mean the candy bar. And while we're at it, Special Dark probably has better gameplay than Conker too. Third parallel here, Special Dark would have no chance to beat Call of Duty 4 next round. Thus they are the same. QED. Vote for the candy bar. Lopen's Prediction: Special Dark with 75.65% Transience’s Analysis Well, this Warcraft match didn't exactly go as planned. How many 50/50 matches can we have in one round? Tonight's match is one of the most 'whatever' matches in the contest. Conker is a low-tier N64 title that has some fan interest but is still a platformer without Mario in the title; Perfect Dark, on the other hand, is a FPS without 'Goldeneye' in the title. Perfect Dark is pretty clearly the bigger title on the system, though it's been exposed as being pretty weak in recent years. Still, it's bigger than Conker. Probably. It certainly made more of a splash than a late-to-the-party 3d platformer like Conker. Plus it got that XBLA remake this year. Sure, it came and went without anybody really caring, but at least the game is somewhat relevant. Conker is not. transience's prediction: Perfect Dark with 63.55% Leon’s Analysis Ah, a battle of Rare N64 games. This one seems pretty open-and-shut to me. Perfect Dark beat Banjo-Kazooie in the Games Contest last year, and I think Banjo probably beats Conker. Conker did decently in the Character Battles back in the day, but he hasn’t been in one in five years, so there’s no telling how weak he is now. Perfect Dark just seems to be the more known and appealing option here. Plus, Perfect Dark has had a bit of a presence on the 360, which could be enough to push it over the top here if it’s close. I don’t really know much with this one though. Leonhart’s Embarrassing Confession of the Match: Despite playing tons of GoldenEye on the N64, I never played Perfect Dark. Leonhart’s Vote: Perfect Dark. Leonhart’s Prediction: Perfect Dark with 59.34% East Division Round 1 Kleenex’s Analysis Guess I should have banked yesterday. Oh well. We've got a long streak now of what should be pretty straightforwards matches. I'm kinda surprised Conker managed to get in here, so I'm impressed there, but it's outclassed here. Not that I have a particularly high opinion of Perfect Dark, either. I really don't think the game is that strong, but it should be easy enough for it to dispatch Conker. The problem is nailing a percentage. I feel like a doubling or so is right. I'm probably wrong, but that's the way things work. Kleenex's Prediction: Perfect Dark with 65.71% |
Applekidjosh’s Analysis AW YEAH GUT FEELING WINS AGAINST LOGIC AND ALBION So today we have two N64 games squaring off. I was never a fan of Perfect Dark, I think it's inferior to Goldeneye in just about every way, but I'll try not to let that cloud my mind! Oooooooold polls show CBFD was at least popular back in 2002, but again that's pretty much completely irrelevant now. Perfect Dark isn't so hot: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=3462 (side note god damn Pokemon RBY is strong, I forgot how hard it thwomped Zelda:MM there) Conker isn't any better though. Even though it's the better game. AKJ says Perfect Dark > Conker with 65.55% Guest’s Analysis - Oxbridge This match involves 2 Nintendo 64 games, both developed by Rare. Both of these games are weak games, and neither of them should really be making it into the second round. The winner is going to lose to Call of Duty 4 in round 2 anyway, so it's only going to be worth 1 point. Perfect Dark achieved 46% on Castlevania SOTN in 2004. In the next games contest in 2009, it barely beat Banjo-Kazooie in a 4-way poll with Majora's Mask and Pokemon RBY in it. Conker's Bad Fur Day is untested in game contests, with no polls about the game since the 2001 GOTY, where it finished 7th with 2.67%. 2005 x-stats gives Conker a 55% victory over Joanna Dark, but this is a games contest, and nothing related to Conker's Bad Fur Day has been in a poll since then. Would you take Banjo-Kazooie > Conker's Bad Fur Day? I would, and so I'm taking Perfect Dark to win this match. My prediction: Perfect Dark with 56.34% Crew Consensus: Perfect Sweep for Perfect Dark. |

Call of Duty 4 vs Prince of Persia: SoT I'm actually something like 76% pumped to see how CoD performs in its opening round matchup. ...against Final Fantasy: Dissidia. This one, not so much. Although I'm sure everyone would agree that Sands of Time is both the best and the most popular of the PoP games, good gracious has this series ever taken a nose dive in recent years. The original getting 3.62(!) percent I can forgive, since facing Mario/Final Fantasy/4chantoads is an impossible situation, and I can also forgive the Prince for his shameful 21% on Samus (that was one of the worst pic disadvantages we've seen in a while), but being soundly defeated in a vote in by Simon Belmont and Tails is pretty awful. I thought last Summer's Prince of Persia movie might do something to rekindle interest in the series, but that hasn't seemed to happen, and with how poorly action games have been faring so far this season... this could get ugly. The only thing working in Prince's favor (besides finally netting a decent match pic) is how Call of Duty has become such a big deal worldwide that it just might have turned into the new Halo, in terms of backlash anti-voting. I was originally leaning heavily in that direction myself, and prepared a pred in the low 60s to back up my tough talk, but ehhhhh. The Halos haters didn't show up in large enough force to save my picks last week, and then GTA escaped LBP without too much anti-vote damage as well, so maybe this season voters are waiting for these games to run into more likable opponents before turning on them. In light of that, guess I have to boost into the upper 60s- but not too far, considering how Galaxy would still blow past CoD4 without much of a problem! Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - 67.43% --- thengamer.com/guru | thengamer.com/xstats | board8.wikia.com If I were you I'd search B8 for The Show, the cool Ng/yoblazer Contest podcast! |
East Division: Round 1 - Match 20 – (4) Call of Duty 4 vs. (13) Prince of Persia Moltar’s Analysis Call of Duty 4 Looked good in 2009 Prince of Persia ‘lol’ Another easy match. CoD4 is one of the biggest games of the generation, and it shows on GameFAQs. It’s strong enough to not get killed my franchises like Smash and MGS, so it’s certainly has its WesternFAQs support. Prince of Persia no chance Moltar’s Bracket: CoD4 > PoP Moltar’s Prediction: Call of Duty 4 - 70% Lopen’s Analysis Leave it to Bacon to break all illusions that our contests are politically correct. AMERICA vs The Middle East. Surely this can't be a mere coincidence. May as well make the match pic Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini there over an Iranian flag and call it Prince of Iran, no one will know the difference. And of course, Prince of Persia will be represented by red on the map. Why? Because republicans love that oil. Well, as a wise man one said, if you can't take the heat, get out of the match filled with oil and firearms. I encourage you all to abstain here. Don't let politics cloud our popularity contests. (Uhhhh.... Call of Duty 4 wins cause it beat Mario Galaxy. Yeah.) Lopen's Prediction: Call of Duty 4 with 66.66%. Yes, my friends, that is the percentage of the beast. Transience’s Analysis Call of Duty 4 is possibly the most popular FPS on this site, and certainly of the decade. Most people would pick Goldeneye over it but that's about it. It beat Super Mario Galaxy and put up an alright number on Brawl. Prince of Persia is like Ninja Gaiden tier. It's well-liked and the character is somewhat popular, but really this is one the weaker games in the bracket. It probably won't get blown out because we're dealing with a FPS and those games will never get the support they should, but this is another easy call. This division sucks, honestly. There's a couple of nice one point matches but the rest is just a big snoozefest until we hit that Melee/Brawl match to finish it off. transience's prediction: Call of Duty 4 with 68.95% Leon’s Analysis This one’s pretty straightforward. It’s kinda weird, but Sands of Time was in five different GOTY polls in 2003. It was in the GameCube, Xbox, PS2, Multiplatform, and final GOTY polls, for whatever the reason. It didn’t do really well in any of them either. Call of Duty 4, on the other hand, was a runner-up to GOTY in 2007, losing pretty handily to Galaxy but thumping Halo 3 pretty soundly at the same time. CoD4 got its revenge in 2009 by beating Galaxy twice. It couldn’t hang with SSBB, MGS4, or Fallout 3, but that’s okay. It doesn’t need to be that strong to win this one! It should win this one easily. Leonhart’s Embarrassing Confession of the Match: I have never played a single game of Call of Duty in my life. Leonhart’s Vote: Call of Duty 4, with the bracket vote. Leonhart’s Prediction: Call of Duty 4 with 63.24% Kleenex’s Analysis Well. Time to see what Call of Duty can do. It'll win this match, no doubt. Should be interesting to see by how much, though. Sands of Time is pretty weak on its own, and Call of Duty has a pretty big range it could fall in. I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here and say that CoD4 disappoints relative to no expectations to speak of. Kleenex's Prediction: Call of Duty 4 with 59.33% |
Applekidjosh’s Analysis Call of Duty 4 and Prince of Persia. This is easy, one of these games was popular enough to get a movie and the other wasn't. AKJ says Prince of Persia wins wi-wait what? Prince of Persia has a 37% on Rotten Tomatoes? oh crap uh uh uh wait WHAT? Call of Whatever had a fantastic showing last year? It beat Galaxy twice and held its own in a poll with Brawl/MGS4/Fallout 3? and what? http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=4005 are you telling me Prince of Persia is like some kinda lamer Assassin's Creed? HOW CAN THIS BE POSSIBLE HOW CAN A GAME THAT HAS A MOVIE DO WORSE THAN A GAME... and then I knew the cutscenes in CoD4 are better than any video game movie, and the narrative blows them all away too. And the voters here are going to back that up. AKJ says Call of Duty 4 beats Prince of Persia with 68.00% Guest’s Analysis - Mr3790 My prediction has been right so far. There have been many exciting, close matches thus far. This is not one of those. Call of Duty 4 should shoot out Prince of persia here to an easy win. This should lead to a victory of around... Call of Duty 4 with 71.12% Let's hope this good streak continues! Crew Consensus: Call of Duty is going to kick some booty. |
