nah, Deus Ex has this. at least my bad feeling was justified. oh well. I choose not to give up on a debatable bracket 20 minutes into the match, personally. It should have been obvious that DE would lead in the morning, with the tail end of europe putting up their votes. |

batman v. psychonauts analysis incoming? |
Batman vs Psychonauts Today's strong showing for Deus Ex has me reconsidering some of my preconceptions toward this Contest. Maybe voters are actually taking this season's title into consideration, as in whenever they're on the fence they'll end up siding with the more respected/critically acclaimed/"Game of the Decade-worthy" of the two options. If so, that could only mean good things for Psychonauts, a game with the same niche appeal and cult fanbase of a Deus Ex, with the added advantage of being available on much more popular platforms. The trouble is, 35% of this site is going to vote against anything from the music game genre- but nobody anti-votes The Batman. The character himself has never been more popular than he is right now, post TDK and post AA (hint hint Bacon!), he looks fantastic in this match pic, plus Psycho loses even more ground due to Arkham having been critically acclaimed in its own right. Basically I can't find any way that this isn't one of the easiest wins we'll see all season. ...having said that, I think people are boosting their percentages a little TOO high for this match. Sure Psycho is completely outmatched, but it at least does a good job of avoiding overlap versus its opponent, something you couldn't say for inFamous. If Batman manages to push for 80 here I'd be extremely impressed, enough so to even start taking that "Fallout 3 upset train!" hype seriously. I'll go with the more reasonable guess of, ehhh, let's call it a tripling. North Division: Round 1 - Match 3 – (5) Batman: Arkham Asylum vs. (12) Psychonauts Moltar’s Analysis Batman: AA More like Badman: Awful Assylum Psychonauts More like Psychonouts Well we’re off to a great start so far. We’ve got crappy vote totals and Crew Curses galore! Anyway, time to get back on track for today, which should be an easy one to call. Batman: AA is a well-liked, well-received 2009 game that looked alright in the 2009 GotY polls. Psychonauts is pretty much fodder, but then against I thought the same for Deus Ex, so I’ll give it a bit more credit. Psychonauts does get respect, but Batman should lean much closer to Fallout 3 than Rock Band 2. Not expecting anything too crazy here. AA being an accepted recent game should mean it’ll look good. Moltar’s Bracket: Batman: AA > Psychonauts Moltar’s Prediction: Batman: AA - 75% Lopen’s Analysis Kosmonauts really can't hope to get by the goddamn Batman. You could put any Batman title here and I'd take it to win cause hey, it's the goddamn Batman. Goddamn! (Gorram?) Errr anywayyyy... yeah, I realize it's a cult hit, and doesn't actually have anything to do with those brave Russian men and women in title or content. It probably would beat Batman Forever, but people actually like this Batman title, so ol Raz can only hope he doesn't get quadrupled here. (he will) Lopen's prediction: The goddamn Batman (gotta inflate that 'gdbm' count) with 85.66% Transience’s Analysis Arkham Asylum's one of our more interesting newcomers. It's *very* well liked and is getting more and more popular over time thanks to it being a new IP. It's probably the second or third most popular game of the year. It *might* be the most popular pure action game that we have, beating out Devil May Cry, Assassin's Creed and God of War. It should have no problem dispatching a crap game like Psychonauts. There isn't much to gleam from this matchup outside of seeing how high Batman can go. Is it widespread enough to score a big win? Probably, given that the Batman name is on it and Psychonauts is a big pile of whatever. transience's prediction: Batman: Arkham Asylum with 76.85% Leon’s Analysis While I don’t view Arkham Asylum as the sleeper pick that many do since its GOTY performance wasn’t really good enough to warrant it, it’d take a miracle for it to lose to Psychonauts here. Raz was one of the weakest characters we’ve ever seen in these things (Getting doubled by Crash Bandicoot is never good for you), and Psychonauts will be down on the lower end of the final stats for this contest. Nothing really interesting to say about this one. It doesn’t even matter how much AA gets here because it’s Psychonauts. Kleenex’s Analysis It amazes me that Psychonauts and Psychonauts-related things get into contests. But hey, here we are, and after seeing Raz get embarassed a couple years ago, we get to see it again. I do think Batman's being a little overrated by people, however. Not that he's going to have any trouble here, I wouldn't be surprised to see this match be even more lopsided than Fallout 3/inFamous (note, I wrote this before Fallout/inFamous happened - this no longer is true). But still, there's just something about the game that doesn't sit right with me. I've heard rumors going around that some people think Batman has a chance againt Fallout (spoilers: it doesn't), but I'm thinking Batman might even struggle next round. But that's an analysis for another day. Another month, actually! As for Psychonauts...well, there's nothing to say about it. The game's weak as hell, it's going to flop big time here, and people will still nominate it for future contests, I bet. Oh well, makes for easy bracket making, I suppose! Kleenex's Prediction: Batman: Arkham Asylum with 70.98% Applekidjosh’s Analysis poor Psychonauts. I haven't played Batman which means it's a terrible game. What a bully, beating up on my cult classic. Guess Psychonauts should just be glad to be here. Batman over Psychonauts with 66.66% Bracket: Batman Battle: Batman Guest’s Analysis - JustinCrossing This is an extremely straightforward match. First, we've got the goddamned Batman. Second, it's psychonauts, which, not counting pirating, sold a total of 120k copies worldwide. It is going to SERIOUSLY flop. SERIOUSLY. Casual voters are going to pick Batman, and it's very possible people that even played psychonauts prefer Batman. After seeing Fallout 3 whoop Infamous' ass, I'm not even hesitant to put Batman above 80% on a game that saw so little playing. I mean sure, GFAQs is probably a site that has a solid % of the playerbase but it's NOWHERE near enough to do anything substantial. I mean really, Infamous, despite being a relatively popular game, got 19%. Despite it being against a juggernaut, that's still substantially little.
