North Division: Round 1 - Match 1 – (1) Fallout 3 vs. (16) inFamous Moltar’s Analysis Fallout 3 One of the strongest 2008 games leads off the Contest inFamous Spoilers: Electric Spiderman is the first loser of the contest. This is a weird match to start the Contest. Guess I’m just too used to Nintendo starting things off. Anyway, we’ve seen Fallout 3 beast in 2008 in the GotY polls and in performed well in the 2009 contest. It made it to Round 3 before running into its good buddies Brawl and MGS4. Still, if Fallout 3 can hang with those two titans, inFamous doesn’t stand a chance here. Fallout also has a very nice shot at going far, so let’s see if it’ll impress early. Moltar’s Bracket: Fallout 3 > inFamous Moltar’s Prediction: Fallout 3 - 73% Lopen’s Analysis Well, I wanted to quit this last season, but I didn't, cracked under pressure of my peers that I must beat, with their lack of contest knowledge. Like I'm going to be beaten by the likes of Moltar, Leonhart, and other analysis guys I don't read... oh ho ho did I say that aloud. Nonono I kid... uhhh, anyway, enough intro, cause if you actually read these, you're sick of the damn things at this point, right? Right! Fallout 3 was close to GotY in 2007 or 2008 or whenever the title was applicable. Also did well last contest, swinging 20% against MGS4, Brawl, and some other game. Infamous, on the other hand, is infamous. I think the main character throws lightning or something, that's how infamous it is! Methinks Fallout 3 and its 2008 GotY ilk will be a little weaker this time around. Dunno why. Fogey sense maybe. Not that it matters... yet...! Lopen's prediction Fallout 3 with 77.33% Transience’s Analysis Time for some contest! This should be one of the best contests we've ever had - an unpredictable winner (though only three or four games have a legit shot at it), tons of interesting matches and no super strong games like FF7 or Ocarina of Time. This could really be the contest to end all contests. We start with Fallout 3, a game that has gone from surprise upstart to 1 seed. Fallout 3 is now the favourite to make it to the final four thanks to beneficial bracket placement, and thanks to hype for the new Fallout game, it just beat Melee in a "what game do you expect to win Game of the Decade" poll. Fallout: New Vegas also came out today. inFamous is in a bad spot here. Fallout 3 could potentially beat a Pokemon or a Twilight Princess right now. It's just that big and exciting. Too bad it couldn't get this release -- the biggest release of the holiday season on this site -- towards the end of the contest. inFamous is weak, but it's going to look even worse here. People don't think of Fallout as a game that can push 80% on other games, but it can here. inFamous is just too weak and this is a perfect storm. Leon’s Analysis I’ll spare you the long-winded contest introductions because I’m sure everyone else will cover that, and you’re well aware of all that jazz if you’re following this topic! I’m also going to try to keep my writeups shorter this year because, for the most part, I have little to no idea what’s going to happen in a lot of these matches, and I think a lot of us are in the same boat. I expect to see a wide disparity in our percentage predictions from match to match, especially in round one. Anyway, we don’t have a lot of data on inFamous, but what little we do have tells us it’s not beating Fallout 3. It got beat pretty handily in its GOTY appearances, and Fallout 3 was a GOTY finalist in the same year with Brawl and MGS4. It didn’t match that performance in the Games Contest when it faced Brawl and MGS4 again, but it still did pretty well for itself to make me think this one’s not gonna be even close. Plus, New Vegas is coming out the day before this match, which should be a big help to a game like Fallout 3. It could also be the difference in how far Fallout 3 goes in this contest, but more on that when the time comes. I will also go Umineko mode in my predictions to reflect my level of confidence. When I speak with the Blue Text, that means I’m not really sure about my pick, and I could easily be wrong. When I speak with the Red Text, that means I’m 100% confident in my pick and I’d be shocked if I were wrong. When I speak with the Gold Text, that means I’m throwing logic by the wayside and entering fanboy mode. Colored text available while supplies last! Leonhart’s Embarrassing Confession of the Match: I’ve never played a WRPG. Leonhart’s Vote: Fallout 3 gets the bracket vote. Leonhart’s Prediction: Fallout 3 with 67.24% Kleenex’s Analysis Another contest, another Nintendo win to start things off. Fallout 3 is one of the biggest Nintendo games to come out in a long time, looking extremely respectable in the 2008 Game of the Year poll, despite heavy SFF from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Let's not forget that it had a brand new expansion come out today (yesterday? two days ago? I don't know when this is going to be posted). Nintendo doesn't normally create expansions for its hit games, but it seems to have made an exception here. Perhaps they knew a GameFAQs contest was about to start and planned this to ensure Fallout 3's dominance. I mean, they did it with Mario Sunshine, why not with Fallout? Then there's inFamous. I'll be honest, I don't really know anything about this game. Apparently it was kinda like that Prototype game. I don't know which was more popular (or better), but I assume the answer to that is inFamous seeing as it got into the contest and Prototype didn't. Upon a little Wikipedia snooping, it would seem that inFamous is getting a sequel. I suppose I could say LOL PS3 EXCLUSIVE here, but I don't think that holds quite as much weight anymore. But this seems like the kind of game that GameFAQs just doesn't care about. Fallout 3 rolls over this match pretty easily.
