The funny thing is that the x-stats basically called the GTA: VC/MP
match. I personally think Secret of Mana and Perfect Dark were bigger
bombs, but I did call that match right. For tomorrow's match I'm leaning toward Zelda: TP > RE4. |

Division 7: Round 2 - Match 46 – Resident Evil 4 vs. Kingdom Hearts II vs. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess vs. Half-Life 2 Moltar’s Analysis Resident Evil 4 Round 1 - 34.17% vs. Kingdom Hearts II, Shadow of the Colossus and Gears of War RE4 takes first but… Kingdom Hearts II Round 1 - 33.61% vs. Resident Evil 4, Shadow of the Colossus and Gears of War …it was barely able to beat KH2. Twilight Princess Round 1 - 39.10% vs. Half-Life 2, Final Fantasy XII, and Phoenix Wright Good performance from TP Half-Life 2 Round 1 - 25.85% vs. Twilight Princess, Final Fantasy XII, and Phoenix Wright HL2 shows that it’s much stronger than its predecessor Oh man this match is stacked. We’ve got 3 potential Top 15/20 games and HL2 isn’t a slouch either. I have TP > RE4 here, mostly because I wasn’t expecting KH2 to be all that strong (and I had more faith in TP and RE4 to be stronger). Now it looks like all 3 games aren’t that far away from each other. TP looks to be a small step ahead of the two looking at R1 performances, so I believe it has the best shot of taking first here. RE4 and KH2 were WAY too close for my liking last round. Before you take one over the other, ask yourself this. Does TP’s presence hinder RE4? If you don’t think so, then go ahead and take RE4 to place. I think TP will hold RE4 back though. RE4, to me, seems like a game that draws its strength from all kinds of fanbases. Well, here it has three distinct groups where it’s going to lose votes; Nintendo, Square, and not-Nintendo/Square. RE4 gets most of its love from the Gamecube fans who played it. TP, another huge GC/Wii game, being here does it no favors. And then if it comes down to its PS2 fanbase, KH2 beats it out there. Even those “raugh i hate nintendo/square” folks have Half-Life here! I know people have RE4 going far, but it looks screwed this round. Looking at KH2 last round, and then seeing KH’s performance against FFX proves that KH is very legit. RE4 needed everything to beat it last round, and now you’re asking it to beat KH2 again with Nintendo fans having the option to vote Zelda. Not seeing that happening. Moltar’s Bracket Says: TP > RE4 Moltar’s Prediction is: Zelda: TP: 30% - KHII: 28% - Resident Evil 4: 24% - Half-Life 2: 18% Heroic Mario’s Analysis Before the contest, I thought KHII had a legitimate shot at upsetting RE4. I was never buying into the top 10 hype that was all over the stats topic. But given that KHII had to deal with FFXII in the second round, there wasn't much reason to dwell on it. Whatever could have happened wouldn't because of the fanbase split. But then round 1 happened. After seeing KHII come dangerously close to RE4 (practically even) and FFXII lose to HL2, it's hard not to side with Kingdom Hearts here. You have to figure that most of RE4's support is heavily rooted in the Nintendo fanbase. Before the PS2 port, it was a GCN exclusive, where the bulk of its popularity comes from. And then there's the Wii port that happened a couple of years ago that was popular. RE4 gets a lot of Nintendo support, no doubt about it. And you have to figure that a good chunk of those are going to side with Zelda today. That leaves Kingdom Hearts with what should be an easy win. Nothing dominating, but what small gap there was should be made up and then some. It helps that KHII stands out big time today against three 'mature' looking games, or at least against RE4 and HL2. We just saw KH manage to hang with FFX, too, and cruise past MGS2 despite both games hurting each other. Kingdom Hearts is legit. As far as HL2 goes, I don't expect it to be in any place but last. It did well last round, but it's simply outclassed against these three. It'll pull down its 20% or so, but any better than that is pushing it. |
Twilight Princess -- 30% Kingdom Hearts II -- 26% Resident Evil 4 -- 24% Half-Life 2 -- 20% Bracket: Twilight Princess > Resident Evil 4 Favorites: Twilight Princess > Kingdom Hearts II Lopen’s Analysis Not much time here so I'll be quick. This match is tough to call. I'm basically just throwing darts at percentages and hoping they hit. RE4, KH2, and ZELDA all have reasons to advance. I assume basically everyone will be backing ZELDA to at least place. Well, you won't find that here. Two reasons: 1. RE4 and KH2's four pack last round strikes me as tougher than Zelda's. We all saw how bad the original Half Life did, and FFXII is clearly the series's weakest entrant. It only beat their percentages by 4%. If nothing else, comparison by fodder you should expect GoW to be much stronger than Phoenix Wright. 2. KH2 did REALLY well against FFX a few days ago, making me think KH2 should be a tough cookie as well. And RE4 has every reason to be strong too, seeing the impressive Game of the Century showing. ... 3. When in doubt play favorites...! Lopen's prediction: RE4- 29.35% KH2 - 29.35% ZELDA - 26.13% Half Life 2 - 15.17% Transience’s Analysis There's two ways to look at this match: 1. Nintendo vs. Square vs. Capcom; 2. mid-tier Zelda vs. mid-tier Square vs. top-tier Capcom Nintendo and Square have dominated this contest. They're by far the two most popular companies here and simply having the company name on the box guarantees that people on this website will pay attention. These aren't their strongest games, but even mid-tier games from them can beat most other companies' top games. You can ask people what the strongest non-Nintendo/Square game on this site is and they'll stumble for a few seconds until they realize that it's probably not a top 10 game. We're that skewed. Last round, we had KH2 and RE4 go essentially even. RE4 is generally thought to overlap with the Nintendo crowd due to its Gamecube roots, so the addition of TP could spell doom for it. Plus, KH1 just went head to head with FFX when it should have gotten bombed. KH has been a huge success so far. Even if you don't think KH will win, you have to be scared of it. The Square fanbase is more than just Final Fantasy + Chrono Trigger now - heck, KH might beat CT now for all we know. I don't believe that RE4 and Zelda overlap. I'm much more willing to put KH and Zelda in the same class, actually - both 'kiddy' games, both atmospheric adventure games, both action RPG-like things. RE4 is nothing like that - GRAB THE SHOTGUN, YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOAD IT WE DID THAT **** FOR YOU, WHAT YOU PRESSIN' SELECT FOR, YOU AIN'T GOT TIME TO MAKE A PROFILE oh wait, I did this last time. But I'm far more likely to say that RE4 overlaps with Gears of War than Zelda. If that's true, RE4 should look better here than last round. I guess Half-Life 2 would do the same thing if that's true, but I'm taking RE4 anyway. Zelda should be safe.. I don't have a lot of respect for it, but it *is* a well-liked Zelda and a lot of people played it. It shouldn't be anything like Majora or Wind Waker. Leonhart’s Analysis Resident Evil 4: After RE4 barely held off KHII last round, people thought that RE4’s chances of making the finals were practically nonexistent. After seeing Kingdom Hearts hang tough with Final Fantasy X earlier in this round, that performance suddenly doesn’t look quite so bad, especially if KHII is stronger than the original. Of course, a moral victory will mean nothing if it fails to advance here, and that’s a serious problem here. Some people wondered if Gears of War might have bothered it last round, but I don’t really know why. Genre LFF has always been sketchy at best. I do wonder if Twilight Princess will bother it because at least they share a console. I don’t think it will, so I don’t think RE4 has any excuses if it loses this time. Kingdom Hearts II: Kingdom Hearts II gave Resident Evil 4 a big fight last round, but for some reason, it wasn’t able to take advantage of its customary beastly day vote and make a comeback for first place. It could never really get past the 600-700 vote barrier there. Can it get past the hump this time? It’s going to have the same advantages it had last time (The only Square option, standing out like crazy), so like RE4, it’s got no excuses not to win. It’s just going to be about which one can come out on top. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: Twilight Princess didn’t do quite as well as I would’ve liked last round, but I think it did enough for first place this time around. Half-Life 2 looks to be a pretty strong game, and it got 60% on it. It beat FFXII about as bad as RE4 beat Shadow of the Colossus, and I sure ain’t takin’ SotC over FFXII, black sheep of the FF series or not. I think more highly of TP still than a lot of people do, so I’m not too worried about it losing here. Of course, I could be wrong! Half-Life 2: Half-Life 2 is kinda like a forgotten game here. I don’t think it’s got much of a chance here unless TP is just some beast or KHII and RE4 are just not that strong, neither of which are all that likely, in my opinion. This game’s got some strength, but this match isn’t about Half-Life 2. If you’re one of those guys who believes in Last Place Factor, it may hit HL2 here because the other three games are the main attractions, especially if you end up with a close three-way match. Leonhart’s Vote: Kingdom Hearts II, time to go Final Drive on this match! Leonhart’s Prediction: Resident Evil 4 – 24.99% Kingdom Hearts II – 25.11% Twilight Princess – 30.12% Half-Life 2 – 19.78% Ed Bellis’s Analysis I expect my mighty brethren of the FAILALYSIS CREW will be hyping up Twilight Princess here. But the MAVERICK is here to be… well, MAVERICK. 39% on one of the weakest Final Fantasies, an FPS in a contest where FPSs have been flopping left and right, and Phoenix Wright isn’t all that impressive, really. Let’s look at Resident Evil 4 and Kingdom Hearts II: both intensely close to each other, with KH in particular excelling as a series this contest. Call it (to use a Mafia term) ‘gut,’ but I just can’t see Twilight Princess competing here. I’d consider taking Link’s Awakening over it! That said, the battle for me here is between RE4 and KH2. I’ll give the slight edge to KH2, simply because there will likely be a bit of Nintendo overlap and because of, well, individual variation. Guest’s Analysis - WarThaNemesis2 Well, I'm making this before KH/FFX, because I know no matter what happens, I'll end up using that match to justify percentages, which can't be good for me. So, after RE4 struggled mightily with KH2 and TP underperformed against weak competition, there are 3 things that can happen. A) Twilight Princess hurts Resident Evil 4 enough to allow Kingdom Hearts II to take 2nd. B) RE4 and KH2 both bomb, letting Half-Life 2 get 2nd. C) Twilight Princess takes more kiddies from Kingdom Hearts II, letting Resident Evil 4 coast to an easy 2nd over the Square game. What will happen? None of these, my dear Crew! None of you will see this coming! Disclaimer: Lopen doesn't count. Half-Life 2 doesn't deserve to be last place factor'd, but I guess even getting to round 2 is an achievement. BTW I used the same percentage's from KOTOR's match here. I wonder if that's a good idea. And I stupidly have RE4 > HL2 in my bracket, so I'm in danger of this match being my first 0 pointer. |
