Snake takes third place, but I think he'll do it in a very impressive
way. In last year's final, Snake was the bastard child of circumstance,
as the L-Block fiasco left him forgotten and struggling to break 12%.
This year, I think he'll do much better. Up against three cool-looking
swordsmen, Snake will benefit from some nice Stand-Out Factor. The fact
that this is definitely the strongest Solid Snake we've ever seen (who
manages to be riding a big wave of support at the moment) also doesn't
hurt. He'll finish well behind Cloud but well ahead of Crono. And then there is Crono, who is the bastard child of circumstance this time around. Not only is Crono the weakest of the four and by a wide margin, but he's also going up against two other cool swordsmen. Two cool swordsmen who have a lot of overlap with him and who have him outclassed in every way. He's going to get totally spanked, but hey, he did a great job to get here. Really made his fans happy, and I'll be excited to see him next year after CTDS. And that's about it, folks! Thanks for reading, and see you all early (hopefully) next year for our second ever Games Contest (hopefully)! ...actually **** it Link - 0% Crono - 0% Solid Snake - 100% Cloud Strife - 0% Lopen’s Analysis Why do the only massive upsets come in the form of hunks of featureless matter. For the love of god please do a games contest next. Lopen's prediction: Link - 33% Cloud - 28% Snake - 22% Crono - 17% Transience’s Analysis I sincerely believed that Cloud would have a shot at Link straight-up.. until today. Cloud losing isn't really a surprise, but Cloud and Seph aren't even combining for 50%. meanwhile, Link took on Samus and Mario and still brought in 40% alone. Sephiroth's far more independent than those other guys are to Link, but still. we're talking about Link. which brings us to what's sure to be an ugly match - Crono just makes Cloud go from having no shot to looking laughable by the end of this. Crono's weaker than Sephiroth, but he's also more independent and will likely draw a good amount of support from FF7's base, so it's possible that Snake upends him here again. either way, the finale that we were all looking forward to because there was no joke character in the way is nothing more than a mere formality. I hope you all enjoyed this year's contest because it's over the second the clock strikes midnight tonight and Snake holds off Cloud. tomorrow's match is a battle for second, not first. uhhh what am I saying I mean Crono is basically the same character as Link and on a Nintendo console and Snake SFFs Link due to being top tier in Brawl Cloud > Link believe!!!!!! now we have to hope that SB is better at keeping his word than Ceej is and actually comes through with this Game Contest early next year. come on, SB, don't let us down. and make it one-on-one. transience's prediction: Link with 36.79% Cloud with 27.54% Snake with 23.55% Crono with 12.12% |

Ngamer’s Analysis Awwww man, my boy Snake providing an awesome capper to an awesome Contest right now. People have been bashing this season ever since the bracket first came online and we saw how 4-ways were returning, and I've never thought that was fair. Sure, I can understand how badly we all want to see 1v1 games, but to let that overshadow all the really fun, really strange results we saw out of this bracket isn't too cool. And today is the biggest highlight of all IMO, as this crazy Snake upset means that your 2008 Contest Champ is... creativename! The $500 couldn't have gone to a better or more deserving guy, even though he's actually way more concerned with the Oracle (which he is ALSO going to win this year, for his much-deserved first #1 finish). Paratroopa is going to win the Guru, which I'm pretty pleased with as well- I trust him to make an excellent Game nomination choice. But if you don't, be sure to pester him into picking your own choice! So yeah, really good season, one of the better we've seen, and... wait, what's that? There's one more match left? Well shoot, guess I better discuss it! X-Stats From Round Five Link - 68.52% (based on '07 Mario) Crono - 51.62% (based on '07 Mario) Snake - 28.18% (based on '07 Kirby) Cloud - 28.02% (based on '07 Kirby) Crono's got this. That's funny, you'd think stats would be more reliable as we moved away from the fodder of the opening rounds, but instead this is probably the worst set of the whole year. Massive three way Nintendo LFF combined with massive Nintendo Sore Thumb Factor overperformance will do that to you, I guess! In any case all you really need to know from looking at this is that Link is the heavy heavy favorite going in, just as you'd imagine, but that Cloud is obviously up for a major gain now that Seph will be dropped. Let's start with Crono. Everyone's picking him for last by a mile, which is obvious enough, but even though he'll be getting LFFed by two more powerful cool-looking swordsman I don't see him entirely falling off the map like most people are saying. CT held up extremely well against FF7 all things considered, and of course it did great against both LttP and Mario 3... I don't see that firm fanbase of his entirely abandoning him here, and so I bet he looks better than Snake did in the '07 Final pretty easily. As to Link vs Cloud, well... Cloud had some very good showings this season, including outdoing Link's percentage in R2, and Sephiroth aside this ought to go down as one of his best years. Had L-Block survived long enough to let Vincent and Crono knock each other out with their split it would surely have moved Mario into this match, at which point I'm pretty much positive I'd have been backing Cloud. The two Nintendo icons in one poll, turning it into triple Brawl LFF due to Steroid Snake, with Cloud the lone Square option? Now that would have been some true Championship material Sore Thumb Factor! As is though it's Cloud taking the major disadvantage thanks to CT's strong SNES support, and I don't see any way this setup would not result in Link's biggest win over Cloud ever, percentage wise. |

The real question of the day will be "can
lightning strike twice"? And the real answer will be... sorry, but no.
Crono has been great this year, but even so you'd have to figure that
Snake needed Vincent in this match applying same-game LFF Sephiroth
style to have any legit chance at the upset. Solid gets more bad news
in the form of long time SSB star Link- yes he stood up to one Brawler
fine in Kirby, but Link is much more likely to cut down his Nintendo
support like Samus did back in the '06 Final, which could potentially
limit his strength rather drastically. Luckily he's also got some good
news! Link/Crono/Cloud, three cool looking sword-wielding RPG/action
characters who peaked back in the mid to late 90s... that means Snake
gets to be the one to stand out from the crowd here, and much like
Kirby today and L-Block in the '07 Final, I think that will result in a
decent overperformance. He'll never be in contention for 2nd outside of
the Power Hour, surely, but even so I'm thinking he hangs in there
closer on Cloud than most are expecting. Alrighty, so all 4 players separated by decent margins but with no one really collapsing and Snake looking the best relatively. That ought to give us percentages along the lines of... *stirs up the final pot of the year* Link - 35.95% Cloud Strife - 28.27% Solid Snake - 21.71% Crono - 14.07% Wanted to do something more crazy here, but ehhh, just can't see it. Great season everyone, this was fun! Ngamer Says: Link > Cloud Crew Consensus: Link > Cloud, ahh, back to normal |

Sigh, leave it to me to do this.... Dp's Unofficial Quick Analysis: And here it is, another victory for Link. Cloud takes 2nd over Snake, because Crono should hurt Cloud less than Sephiroth. Or so it would seem. But it also seems like this is the contest for the unexpected. If L-Block could lose to Pikachu, couldn't Link lose here to Cloud? Will the voters annoyed with Link's continued dominance rally enough behind someone to beat him? Or maybe Snake does beat Cloud for 2nd. Could the SFF be so that Crono actually hurts Cloud more, behind a hero from a different game instead of the villain from the same game? That could certainly be so. Hell, maybe even combine these two possibilities to say that Snake takes first! Talk about SFF because of Sephiroth, but this is still an impressive performance by Snake today. How much has a Brawl and MGS4 boost helped him? If he has jumped into the upper tier of the Noble Nine, if he's just close enough to put a scare into Link, I say why not? Crazier things have happened this contest.... The safe choice is obviously Link > Cloud. This contest has not ceased to surprise me, including these final rounds when I was feeling even more confident in my bracket despite sucking through the 2nd and 3rd rounds. So here we are, the final match of this contest. It's been a pretty wild ride, between bags and cubes, pink balls and yellow rats, and pretty much everything involving Division 1. So on this final day, I say....why not? Dp's bracket says: Link > Cloud Dp's prediction is: Cloud > Link Cloud - 30.27 Link - 30.23 Snake - 25.30 Crono - 14.20 No, I don't really think this will happen. It will be Link > Cloud > Snake > Crono. Or so I think. But this contest has thrown so many twists and turns that I can't help but think that there will be one last surprise in store. --- NEW YORK GIANTS: SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS!! Shea Stadium - My home. Also, while this Crew topic is still available, anyone have any comments or suggestions? Personally, I like the 7 person Crew (6 regs and 1 guest), but I know other people want their shot to be on the Crew. I don't plan on making it bigger, and I'd really hate to boot anyone off since each guy brings their own. Maybe I could change up how the Guest slot works. Instead of Guest's Analysis, it could be Guest Analyses. Perhaps I can allow anyone to send in a short write-up for any match (open to all matches and as many times as they want) for the Guest. The deadline would be a few hours before the match, and the Guests would have their own little competition too. Of course, that would limit the length of the write-ups for Guests since I don't plan on making 10 posts full of just Guest stuff, but I think it would be a neat way to involve more people (especially ones who follow these topics) What do you guys think? --- master moltar |

How about you let a few guests send you analysis, then you choose the
best one to use for the match (based on whatever criteria you want to
use). Or, you could have two topics. One for the Crew, the other for

Hmm, earn a spot in next contest's crew....interesting. Although that may require someone from the previous contest's crew stepping down, so the number of write-ups doesn't get out of hand. The idea of running a 2nd topic is also interesting. Question would be whether it's organized (posted like the current Crew is) or unorganized (people just post their own write-ups). If it's organized, Moltar probably shouldn't be the one in charge of collecting and posting all the write-ups, since handling the main topic is probably enough of a task for him, so I'd say he would designate someone else to be in charge of a "guest" topic. --- NEW YORK GIANTS: SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS!! competition between the two Crews to see which one is best! --- NEW YORK GIANTS: SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS!! Silent but deadly, the stealthy FastFalcon05 kicked our asses in Guru with Snake. |

Finishing last in the Crew could lead to a demotion. Or maybe retiring winners? Heh... --- Good Times, Great Memories |

(I need to learn to keep things in one post, instead of thinking up new things to say as I'm hitting the Post button) The one problem I see though is that the more extra write-ups you post, the less attention the individual analyses are going to receive. I already worry about the write-ups being glanced over as-is. I tried to make sure I read them all towards the beginning of the contest, but after awhile....that's a lot of reading to go through. I think maybe you can be stricter about a deadline for sending in analyses. I'd like to see them go up by 10 or so, instead of waiting around sometimes until after 11. --- NEW YORK GIANTS: SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS!!
