Another year, another Character Battle. And where there is a battle
featuring video game characters on GameFAQs, the Analysis Crew is there. For those new here, the Analysis Crew (led by that handsome devil, Moltar) discusses and predicts each match in the Contest. From the first match of Round 1 to the Finals, the Analysis Crew will be there to tell you who we think will win the match and why. Some analyses will make you laugh, others will make you cry, and you may even wet your pants a few times. We do this for you. And now, I present to you, this Contest's Analysis Crew! First we have the Crono of the Analysis Crew, Master Moltar! He may not be as popular as the other members, and actually pretty quiet on the board, but man does he look the best. Next is the Link of the Crew, UltimaterializerX! The fans scream "OMG ULTI!" when he enters a topic, and he also is a winner, winner of the Games Contest to be precise. Following up is the Cloud of the Analysis, Heroic Mario. He may change his opinions alot, but he stands firm on his Contest choices and...oh wait, he's in an Nintendo phase right now?...And he wants to be Ganondorf?...But..whatever! Up next is the Sonic of the Crew, Yoblazer! He's just loved by everyone. How can someone not like Yo? It's impossible! A strong, consisent Crew performer, he's looking to take the crown this Contest. Now it's the Mega Man of the Crew, Lopen! Just like Mega Man, Lopen is everywhere these days. He's known for his crazy upset picks and just not being able to stay down when he's out. Finally, it's the Solid Snake of the Crew, Karma Hunter! He's the most badass of all of us, I'll say. Like hiding in a cardboard box to avoid detection, KH thinks smart, and he should be a fun addition to the Crew. And the final spot on the Crew belongs to...you? That's right! For each match, there will be a Guest write-up. I mean, you all are claiming that you guys can do better than that Crew, so now it's time to see if you're right! Sign-ups for Rounds 1 and 2 have already passed, but keep an eye out for later Round sign-ups! Round 2 Samus vs. Ada - Garsha Rikku vs. Kairi - FantasyFreak999 Tifa vs. The Boss - Hiko! Limit Division: Round 2 - Match 35 – (1)Tifa Lockhart vs. (4)The Boss Moltar’s Analysis Tifa Round 1 – 76.18% vs. Ivy (23.82%) Ivy might have challenged her in the chest department, but Tifa had no trouble winning. The Boss Round 1 – 61.08% vs. Celes (38.92%) Ouch, FF6 embarasses once again, as Celes can’t even touch The Boss. Well, after The Boss’s impressive performance last round, she hits a brick wall, in the shape of Tifa. Now, we already know The Boss can’t challenge Tifa, but also, we may get some of that funky FF7/MGS SFF we’ve seen in the past. Even if we don’t see any, I’m not even sure anymore that Celes will even be at Terra’s level, and Tifa would destroy both of them. The Boss may do respectably, but don't count on it. Moltar’s Bracket Says: Tifa will win. Moltar’s Prediction is: Tifa: 70% - The Boss: 30% Ulti’s Analysis The Boss's path in this contest was as predictable as could be, despite what Celes supporters would have you believe. And... that's it, really. she has no chance to beat Tifa at all. Prediction: Tifa with 67.67% HM’s Analysis Tifa Lockhart Previous Matches: Tifa Lockhart – 76.18% -- 96,118 Ivy Valentine – 23.82% -- 30,046 The Boss The Boss – 61.08% -- 66,787 Celes Chere – 38.92% -- 42,565 One of the highlights of last round was The Boss taking care of Celes with no problem at all. Right from the very beginning, the match was never in question. Tifa, on the other hand, put up some very good numbers against Soul Calibur II’s Ivy Valentine. Unfortunately, The Boss clearly stands no chance whatsoever in this match despite being far superior (YES, TIFA FAN…BABIES, THE BOSS IS BETTER)! We probably won’t be able to get too good of a read here on Tifa, who has possibly benefited from Kingdom Hearts II, but we should at least get an idea of how weak Celes will be in relation to Terra. But other than that, I can’t imagine her performance here changing too much. Perhaps if Peach ends up being a surprise and pretty strong coupled with a pretty bad underperformance here, but eh. Tifa’s path is pretty cut and dry. Aitch Emm’s Bracket: Tifa Lockhart Aitch Emm’s Prediction: Tifa Lockhart – 67% ; The Boss – 33% Aitch Emm’s Vote: The Boss Yoblazer’s Analysis You know, despite doing a disgraceful job on the crew in this contest, I've still learned a few things. Actually, I've learned one thing: writing stuff for the female matches is very, how you say, uninteresting and crappy. The entire half of the bracket has very few interesting matches, and unfortunately, this is not one of them. As a Metal Gear fan, I was overjoyed with The Boss's performance in Round 1. Going into what was, believe it or not, one of the most debated female matches, the legendary soldier destroyed Celes Chere and made everyone who took her for the seeding upset look like they acted a fool. However, a 61/39 win over the weakest Final Fantasy femme in history does not equal a win over the strongest one, and that's exactly who Boss is up against here. |
Master Moltar | Posted 10/15/2006 10:04:13 PM | message detail | #025 |
Tifa is simply far too strong for any Metal Gear
character not named Solid Snake to contend with, and The Boss is no
exception. We all know she will win; the skill comes into play only
when trying to predict the margin of victory. Logically, the most
comparable contest entrant to The Boss is Revolver Ocelot. Based on the
stats from both the Villains Contest and SC2K5, pre-AC/KHII Tifa is
expected to beat Ocelot with 65-68% of the vote. Now, even though I
wouldn't be terribly surprised if The Boss were actually stronger than
Ocelot, I also think it's obvious that Tifa has boosted in the past
year based on everything we've seen so far. I'd say the range for this
match is anywhere between the high 60's and low 70's, but I'll give
Boss the benefit of the doubt due to fanboyism. My prediction: Tifa Lockheart def. The Boss (69-31) Lopen’s Analysis The Boss had little trouble dispatching our little friend Celes last round. I thought it'd be close, but it wasn't! A 60-40 on Celes makes The Boss look like she's probably above the fodder line, at least. But… but, we've all seen MGS and FF7 (FF8 too?) have their weird interactions. I won't throw our favorite three letters out there, but fishy? … yes… fishy! However, The Boss is only in MGS3, a game not on the PS1... so she might just be a bit stronger against that… fishiness. In fact, I don't expect much… fishiness… around this match. But, I won't factor it out. The Boss could manage anywhere between 25 and 40 and I wouldn't be too surprised. I guess if The Boss got 40 there'd be a Tifa doom saying squad forming, and that'd be funny. I think, anyway… who's the 2 seed here? Peach? Oh ho ho… yeah right! Lopen's Prediction: Tifa with 67.21% KH’s Analysis lol x-stats history Tifa Lockheart Summer 2005 Contest Extrapolated Strength --- 16th Place [30.77%] Tifa dispatches of Ivy in one HELL of a high voting match, proving how big of a draw those bigguns were. But now thanks to the faceshot round (and a not especially feminine opponent) TJF is out of the picture, and we hopefully get a better idea of where Tifa stands this year. ...hopefully. The Boss lol N/A The Boss turns arguably the most debated match of the female bracket into an absolute slaughter, shaming those that bet against the power of MGS3 (and moreso those that bet on the 'power' of FFVI characters). Though the victory itself was impressive enough, doing in a FFVI character with ease isn't exactly the most marvelous feat in the world. Now she's up against a character from a FF that counts, and with KH2 power to boot. Time to show what you're made of, soldier. Notable Releases Since Last Appearance Tifa Lockheart: Kingdom Hearts 2 (PS2) The Boss: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2) Upcoming Releases Tifa Lockheart: N/A The Boss: N/A Yeah...if The Boss evades the doubling or even comes close to it I'll be absolutely astounded, and Squall will barely be a blip on my (err, Snake's) map as I look forward to Mega Man once again. Yes, she's an untested character, but I'd like to think I'm in touch enough with the fanbase to know that her simply being on Ocelot's level would be a great accomplishment. Being significantly higher (y'know, stronger Tifa and all) would be a great sign for MGS. Alas... Karma Hunter's Vote: The Boss. For the second time in a row I vote for her despite not being fond of her at all...I blame her opponents making her look like a goddess in comparison. Karma Hunter's Krazy Prediction: Tifa Lockheart with 70.55% . |

Due to The Boss still being an unstable character, in the face of
FFVII/KH2 and the power of a potential overperformance here, I'm
calling for Tifa to crack 70% without too much of a sweat. For the sake
of true patriots everywhere Boss, please prove me wrong. Upset Potential: 0% *sheds a tear* Guest’s Analysis - DaruniaTheGoron Well, this isn't even debatable. Tifa is gonna easily beat The Boss here before going on to beat either Jill or Peach. I'm predicting the Boss keeps it a little respectable after her sound defeat of Celes however. Prediction: Tifa with 68.76% Crew Consensus: Tifa in the high 60's looks to be popular. Tifa is going to out-CQC The Boss badly! Tran-man's non-Crew and therefore doesn't count for anything, yet I'm posting it anyway Analysis Super Happy Fun Time! we have two cases of FF7 SFFing MGS - FF7 vs. Metal Gear Solid in the Game Contest and Sephiroth beating the hell out of Liquid Snake in the Villain Contest. we also have Solid Snake beating Sora far harder than he should have. if you look at it, it's almost like Snake shares a fanbase with Square. if this is true, The Boss may be in for the beating of her life. fortunately for her, The Boss is a PS2-exclusive while Tifa is mostly just an FF7 character. The Boss looked pretty impressive against Celes and Solid Snake looked noticably stronger in 2005 thanks to MGS3. I think it's safe to say that The Boss will perform admirably despite the possibility of her getting SFFed for some stupid reason. she probably won't escape a doubling, but I think she can keep it below a triple. prediction: Tifa with 70.34% |

Round Two! Hooray, we're in the female bracket again! This match is
between The Boss and Tifa, with Tifa being the clear favorite. Will we
see The Boss get dominated by Tifa or will she give off a good showing?
Keep on reading to find out! First off we have Tifa, one of the two females in Final Fantasy VII's love triangle. After defeating Ivy Valentine in round one, she is looking to move on to round three in style. She has Advent Children and SquareFAQs on her side, but will that be enough to completely dominate? Let's take a look at her opponent. The Boss is a character from Metal Gear Solid 3. She defeated Celes Chere from Final Fantasy VI in round one, but doesn't really have any chance of moving on to round three. Non-Snake MGS characters don't seem to do so well in these contests, so things aren't exactly looking to be in her favour. "What's our goal?" "To do our best!" is the sort of thing that The Boss should be thinking right about now. It is pretty obvious that she doesn't have any shot at winning, but will she pull off the moral victory? It depends on what percentage you consider the moral victory to be at. I don't have the time to write up any compelling arguments, but I'm going to have to say yes on this one. Tifa is from one of the most popular games of all time, so The Boss isn't expected to do much. If she can stick around 30%, I will consider this a good match for her. My prediction? Tifa and the twins with 69.83% ~~~ The one. The only. Lady Ashe. |
