Another year, another Character Battle. And where there is a battle
featuring video game characters on GameFAQs, the Analysis Crew is there. For those new here, the Analysis Crew (led by that handsome devil, Moltar) discusses and predicts each match in the Contest. From the first match of Round 1 to the Finals, the Analysis Crew will be there to tell you who we think will win the match and why. Some analyses will make you laugh, others will make you cry, and you may even wet your pants a few times. We do this for you. And now, I present to you, this Contest's Analysis Crew! First we have the Crono of the Analysis Crew, Master Moltar! He may not be as popular as the other members, and actually pretty quiet on the board, but man does he look the best. Next is the Link of the Crew, UltimaterializerX! The fans scream "OMG ULTI!" when he enters a topic, and he also is a winner, winner of the Games Contest to be precise. Following up is the Cloud of the Analysis, Heroic Mario. He may change his opinions alot, but he stands firm on his Contest choices and...oh wait, he's in an Nintendo phase right now?...And he wants to be Ganondorf?...But..whatever! Up next is the Sonic of the Crew, Yoblazer! He's just loved by everyone. How can someone not like Yo? It's impossible! A strong, consisent Crew performer, he's looking to take the crown this Contest. Now it's the Mega Man of the Crew, Lopen! Just like Mega Man, Lopen is everywhere these days. He's known for his crazy upset picks and just not being able to stay down when he's out. Finally, it's the Solid Snake of the Crew, Karma Hunter! He's the most badass of all of us, I'll say. Like hiding in a cardboard box to avoid detection, KH thinks smart, and he should be a fun addition to the Crew. And the final spot on the Crew belongs to...you? That's right! For each match, there will be a Guest write-up. I mean, you all are claiming that you guys can do better than that Crew, so now it's time to see if you're right! If you don't mind, I think I'm gonna post up short analyses on each
match along with you guys. Probably just a few sentences, not anything
in-depth like the Crew would do. Just to contribute a little back to
what I helped start. I'd rather do that than try to focus on just doing

Spazer Division: Round 1 - Match 1 – (1)Samus vs. (8)Nidoran F Moltar’s Analysis Samus Game/Series Known From: Metroid Extrapolated Rank in 2002: 4th (41.07%) Extrapolated Rank in 2003: 7th (37.94%) Extrapolated Rank in 2004: 4th (39.50%) Extrapolated Rank in 2005: 13th (31.84%) – Adjusted Value: 5th (38.21%) Seed in 2002: 5 Seed in 2003: 2 Seed in 2004: 2 Seed in 2005: 1 Lost in 2002 to Sephiroth in the Elite 8 Lost in 2003 to Link in the Elite 8 Lost in 2004 to Cloud in the Final 4 Lost in 2005 to Mario in the Elite 8 Impressive history for Ms. Aran right here. No wonder she’s the favorite to win the female half. Nidoran F Game/Series Known From: Pokemon A part of me still can’t believe Nidoran F got into the Contest… Woo, first match of the Contest. What a match we have here too; one of the strongest females in the Contest facing off against a random Pokemon. Anyone who wants to bring up the Metroid/Pokemon poll to argue that Nidoran F has a chance should jump off a cliff now. Anyway, this match in a way represents the Contest. One on half, we have Nidoran F representing the female half. Worthless, weak, unecessary, uneeded, a joke to the Contest itself. On the other hand, there’s Samus representing the males. Strong, worth-watching, winners. Ahh, it’s just like society should be…. Moltar’s Bracket Says: Samus will win. Moltar’s Prediction is: Samus: 91% - Nidoran F: 9% Ulti’s Analysis I'm not even going to dignify this with a response. Joke entrant, joke match. All I'll say is that LUE and LL are both planning to proxy whore for Nidoran F, so it (I ain't calling it 'she') MAY break 15% here. Other than that, nothing of note other than yet another contest beginning with a Nintendo character. Snake would have been so much better here. Prediction: Samus with 85.01% HM’s Analysis It looks like the tradition of starting a contest off with a Nintendo character holds with Samus’s match against the joke of a Pokemon in Nidoran F. Unfortunately, Samus met her end last year against Mario in a rather brutal beating of SFF, at least for someone as strong as Samus. For whatever reason, Ms. Aran somehow fell out of favor with many people as she seems to be getting crazy statements ranging from “She’ll lose to Crono” to “Mega Man will rSFF her and win” – yes, both of those are crazy!! The lovely Ms. Aran’s opponent for this match is nothing more than a joke. It is a Pokemon who should clock in as infinitely weaker than Pikachu, who isn’t worth much more than 15% on Samus anyway. Samus should be able to put up some seriously impressive numbers by kicking some ass with over 92% of the vote. This contest should put her back into that position of someone who is taken for what she is – a beast of a contestant. Sephiroth in any future contest better count his days because Samus has a super missile with his name written all over it. Aitch Emm’s Bracket: Samus Aran Aitch Emm’s Prediction: Samus Aran – 93.3% ; Nidoran F – 6.7% Aitch Emm’s Vote: Samus Aran Yoblazer’s Analysis For the eighth time in eight contests, the overall top seed is a Nintendo entry. Samus joins the likes of Link, Mario, Bowser, and The Legend of Zelda as she leads the Big N's army into battle. She can rest easy for the time being, however, as her first true test won't be here for another... oh, two months or so. Her competition, Nidoran F, is a joke character to Board 8 and LUE only. The vast majority of voters won't see a laugh and a half; they'll see a standard Pokemon. Thus, they'll see someone they don't care about. Throw in Samus's scary legitimate strength and some SFF, and you have one ugly result in the making. My prediction: Samus def. Nidoran F (90-10) |

Lopen’s Analysis Nidoran F… that name is kinda funny. But still, I can't help but feel we're getting ripped off, here. Even in Pokemon there were many better characters to pick! With Pokemon GSC and beyond, male and female versions of nearly all Pokemon are allowed! Just imagine what we could have here instead… an Onix, or maybe a Graveler? Oh… oh… Caterpie! Alright, Caterpie seems pretty manly to me, but it doesn't matter too much, he'd appreciate a slot on either side I'm sure! … this match is stupid. Lopen's Prediction: Samus with 90.39% KH’s Analysis lol x-stats history Samus Aran Summer 2002 Contest Extrapolated Strength --- 4th Place [41.07%] Summer 2003 Contest Extrapolated Strength --- 7th Place [36.72%] Summer 2004 Contest Extrapolated Strength --- 4th Place [39.50%] Summer 2005 Contest Extrapolated Strength --- 5th Place [38.21%] Ah, Samus. How the mighty have fallen to being slightly less mighty than once thought. Gone from being the near-unanimous pick to win the main bracket and a super-sexy upset pick to break Clinkeroth, now she is...the near unanimous pick to win the main bracket. Board 8 don't like to change their ways it seems! Though it's not without reason. Though Mario trashed her in a match she was VASTLY favored in (on the board), the power of SFF makes those results questionable. And no, I don't just mean questionable on if she shouldn't have lost by that much -- I mean if she should have lost AT ALL! After all, many Mario supporters defended the idea of rSFF through and through for Mario's victory, and while that idea was jumped off of by most, the possibility still exists for Samus to be indirectly stronger than Mario. If this is true, it's bad for the main bracket, very bad. Crono lost to Mario by more in 2k5 than he won by in 2k4, and he got the closest to him out of anyone. And with Corruption probably being out by that match, it would seem that only another bad case of SFF could stop Samus from achieving her destiny... But more on that later! First she's got to get there, and her opponent IS: Nidoran F lol N/A Nidoran F is a Pokemon so bad and obscure that I don't even feel like taking up space writing about her. She's bloody useless, and only there for Pokedex purposes or to raise to get the better forms of Nidorina and Nidoqueen. That being said, she is from Pokemon, an entity that while having bad luck in the past, surprised last contest by coming very close to Metroid, which was supposed to be a mortal lock to the Elite Eight. Unfortunately Metroid got squashed by Zelda in a SFF massacre, which makes it hard to gauge. Fortunately for Nidoran F, she's facing a character from Metroid today! Unfortunately, it happens to be Samus. Notable Releases Since Last Appearance Samus Aran: Metroid Prime: Hunters (DS), Metroid Prime Pinball (DS), Super Smash Brothers Brawl Trailer (lol internet) Nidoran F: Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow (GB), Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal (GBC), Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald (GBA), Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green (GBA) Upcoming Releases Samus Aran: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (WII), Super Smash Brothers Brawl (WII) Nidoran F: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (DS) As a HUGE proponent of NGamer's fantastic lol x-stats calculator (www.thengamer.com/xstats) and an even bigger user (lol laziness), I will now use this amazing machine to predict this match with unquestioned accuracy! Yes, unfortunately, the contest powerhouse known as Nidoran F has yet
to be in a contest, and while lol x-stats professes to know the future
with unerring
accuracy, it doesn't know it unless it's already happened. No
questions, please. In any case, we do have an opponent from Nidoran F's
games that has been in a contest! Samus (2005c) VS Pikachu (2003c) Samus has a strength of 41.69. Pikachu has a strength of 10.99. Samus wins with 86.82% of the vote! A win of 66,209 with 89,911 total votes cast. ...ouch. Now, this is Pikachu, the most hated and reviled Pokemon out there (and my favorite *sniff*). And in his latest outing he happens to be behind both potential SFF from Fox/Pikachu and definite SFF of Link/Fox. So, he's definitely underrated. But even with all that, there's no way Pikachu is touching Samus from *that* margin. And even with Pikachu getting so much hate, recognition alone should give him a win against Nidoran F. X-Stats aside, Samus is not only the main character of a more popular series (albeit not by that much), she also has Super Smash Brothers to her name, a far better character design...against a random Pokemon whose most distinguishing trait is that she was the first Female Poke. Oh, and she appears in RBY, so she could probably beat many Pokemon from the later games. So, Nidoran F has no chance here...none. Zero. Wow, that was tough. I guess I should start talking about the percentages, and what Samus should be getting and stuff...but, eh. Looking at what she's projected to get on double SFF'd Pikachu -- whose X-Stat value I expect Nidoran to be weaker than -- if she gets less than 85% I'll call her losing in the Finals a lock, and Tifa/Zeris having a damn good shot at her. That's how utterly, utterly pathetic Nidoran F is, and against Nintendo her support should be completely sapped. The only thing stopping this from potentially happening are, 1.) It's Samus and 2.) She had a big joke rally from Board 8, LUE, and LUElinks. So she shouldn't be Jay Solano...but I wouldn't put it out of the question. Karma Hunter's Vote: Metroid is freaking awesome. Samus is a dull bore, and one of the few characters that I systematically vote against without anti-voting. I just prefer virtually ever other character to her. This isn't one of those times. Samus gets my vote against Whoever F. Karma Hunter's Krazy Prediktion: Samus Aran with 89.28% of the vote. 90% is hard to break, Samus may just miss. Or hit 98%, who knows. Upset Potential: 0.00000000000000000000000000002% The only reason this isn't 0% is because I refuse to give Samus 100% against a Nintendo character. Gotta hedge my bets! Also, if Nidoran F were to win it would basically have to mean that there was a glitch in the poll that stopped people from voting for Samus and Ceej gets drunk and misses it. With that in mind: Upset Prediction: Nidoran F with 100% of the vote. Guest’s Analysis - Outback ASH entered Brinstar Town. MIYAMOTO wants to fight!! MIYAMOTO sent out SAMUS! DpOblivion's Quick Analysis This summer, while without internet for a couple weeks, I downloaded a Pokemon Red ROM (yay illegal) to do a quick, fun runthrough for the first time in many many years. One of the first Pokemon I caught, as usual, was a Nidoran F. After nominating her, she stayed with me the entire time, only to sadly be replaced right before the Elite 4 by Zapdos (of course, a Nidoqueen by this point - and I should have replaced Hitmonchan instead). Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is....well, there is none. I find it funny that she made it in the contest, which was only allowed because of the stupid idea (I think) to have a whole female half. But other than that....yeah, she's gonna get killed by Samus. I was wondering, would it be possible for me to try my hand at analizing a match for a shot at the crew slot? I've been watching these matches since 02 (missed the first one, unfortunatly), and I have to say that I enjoy reading these things and have always thought to make one (just never had the time or I wasn't motivated enough.) If so, then: Second round, and I would like to be able to choose my match-up. I've never seen most of these women contestants and I wouldn't want to get stuck with a match I couldn't analyse accuratly. If you insist on choosing, then no female match-ups. I'll be going for the title of Luigi...not Mario. Spazer Division: Round 1 - Match 2 – (4)Ada Wong vs. (5)Jade Moltar’s Analysis Ada Wong Game/Series Known From: Resident Evil She’s a newcomer to the tourney. Looks like RE4 got her in. Jade Game/Series Known From: Beyond Good and Evil She’s from a game that’s highly praised, but didn’t sell too well, like so many others. Two contest newbies going at it early. On one hand is Ada Wong, who you’ll know from the Resident Evil series, and most recently, Resident Evil 4. Heck, that alone is enough to give her the victory over Jade. Beyond Good and Evil is a pretty cult game, and we all know how cult characters do in Contest settings. No need to write a book here, Ada wins with ease. She should be able to put up good numbers on her opponent. I can’t see Jade being worth anything here. Moltar’s Bracket Says: Ada will win. Moltar’s Prediction is: Ada: 67% - Jade: 33% Ulti’s Analysis Seriously, who the hell is Jade? This might be one of those matches where midcard fodder is facing such crap that she (Ada in this case) may end up looking WAY stronger than she really is. But it's Ada, so I won't complain! <3 her in RE4, in both Assignment Ada and Mercs. And **** what anyone says, Ada is better than Leon and Hunk in Mercs. Oh right, a match. Uh.... hopefully she has the red dress on in the match pic? <_< Prediction: Ada with 74.67% HM’s Analysis First off, woohoo for Ada actually making the female half of the bracket; she starts the contest by representing Resident Evil in a match that she can actually win, too! I think it’s a good possibility that Ada could end up being the strongest Resident Evil female that we’ll see thanks to her not only being in previous Resident Evil games, but also being apart of Resident Evil 4 – the game that revitalized the series. Ada’s opponent is from the “best game no one has heard of.” Jade is from the critical hit and commercial failure, Beyond Good & Evil. It was a fantastic game with many a Zelda-esque type of gameplay, but it sold like crap. There was a poll somewhere here where it performed horrifically. There’s just no way Ada can lose this one with RE4 on her side. Jade is unfortunately too unknown, though it is pretty surprising that she managed to get into the contest. Aitch Emm’s Bracket: Ada Wong Aitch Emm’s Prediction: Ada Wong – 75% ; Jade – 25% Aitch Emm’s Vote: Ada “S-VIDEO PORT” Wong. Yoblazer’s Analysis Whoa, Jade got in?! Who the hell rallied? No matter how you slice it, it's very cool to see that a good, incredibly underappreciated game like Beyond Good and Evil draw enough support to actually get one of its characters in a contest. Unfortunately for the likable heroine, her first and last contest appearance won't be a fruitful one. She's simply far too cult and unknown for her more recognizable opponent. Believe it or not, the sexy Ada Wong has found a home on the Playstation, N64, Gamecube, and PS2. Not bad for a character who's only starred in two games, huh? She may not have much power in her own right, but Ada is about six bajillion times more mainstream than her nearly unrecognizable opponent, and that's easily than enough to give her the win. For anyone who thinks pictures will make more/any difference in female matches, the RE character is also more attractively drawn. This one will probably be more of a beatdown than most people are expecting. My prediction: Ada Wong def. Jade (73-27) |

Lopen’s Analysis This match here might deserve a bit more debate than it has received. You've gotta think…Ada Wong is probably weak. I mean, I can't see her being more popular than Wesker. Yeah, that's right… the same Wesker who was destroyed by Kefka. The same Wesker who practically scraped by Luca Blight! Yeah, Ada Wong will suck it up. But on the other hand… who's Jade? I thought it was that ninja chick from Mortal Kombat! Thinking that I said "maybe Jade will win". But, the thing is, it's not. I still don't know what she's from. I think CJayC has her listed in that character disambiguation thing, but I'm not even going to look. … okay, I'll look. Beyond Good and Evil? That name sounds vaguely familiar, and maybe it's all the rage on the Internets, but I don't think so! If I can't even pinpoint what system your game is on, you're going down! Even if it is just Ada Wong! Okay, actually, I wouldn't put it over Jade to upset here… just because she's a total unknown. My percentage implies otherwise but… shut up! From the popular Resident Evil series, she also happens to appear in both of the most popular games in the series -- RE2 and RE4. Guest’s Analysis - Phediuk First things first. This is not the Jade form Mortal Kombat. This is not the Jade from Mortal Kombat. This is NOT the Jade from Mortal Kombat. Okay? Okay. Jade is from Beyond Good and Evil. Beyond Good and Evil is one of those "criminally underrated" games that everyone has heard of and everyone has told themselves "hey, I should play that game sometime", and then they never do. So about 3 people have actually played Beyond Good and Evil, and all of Jade's other nominations came from people who felt guilty for not playing it or people who wanted to look hardcore by pretending they had played it. Ada is from Resident Evil 4. Yes, she's also in Resident Evil 2, but no one cares about those chunky pieces of crap anymore. The Resident Evil series may as well be renamed Resident Evil 4. So instead of Resident Evil 5, we see Resident Evil 4-2. Now no one ever has to acknowledge the existence of "classic RE", which is really just the pretentious "hardcore" RE fan's way of trying to make his wang look bigger than yours by pretending to like crappy games. Please go throw the old RE games into the same landfill as those old ET cartridges. Please. So yeah. Resident Evil 4 versus the less-rare current-gen version of Panzer Dragoon Saga. Not the most difficult match in the world. Ada with 72%. Summary: Crew has Ada winning this match. Most of us think it'll be at least a doubling, but Lopen says otherwise... |

DpOblivion's Quick Analysis Ada Wong is from Resident Evil. Jade is from Beyond Good & Evil, or something. You basically have to have played those games to know who the hell the characters are, so obviously the Resident Evil character is going to kill the Beyond Good & Evil character.
