Oh yeah....it's back and bigger than ever... Well, by that I mean it's a bigger Crew. I mean, the Contest is shorter...and the write-ups aren't guaranteed to be bigger...but we still have a bigger Crew!

Speaking of this Crew, I think it's time to introduce you guys to us.

Master Moltar: Leader of the bunch, you know me well, I'm finally back, to analyze some matches. Yay me!

UltimaterializerX: Yeah, I spelled it off memory, so sorry if it's wrong. Don't smite me or anything. He's one of the faithful members of the Crew. He's been around since the first one, and wrote the Starcraft/Halo analysis...yeah, that one.

Now for the newbies.

XxSoulxX: Hello B8ers! I am XxSoulxX, or Soul, in short. For those of you that do not know me, well, umm…. Yeah.

I was thankful enough to overhear Moltar talk about this little predictions game thing he is running. After a few nights of begging, I was allowed in. Yes, I actually begged to get in this. Don’t laugh Outback, you did too. >_>

Now then, let me say this. I am not an avid “stater” AKA someone who memorized the X-stats or know a lot about them. I sometimes view the site, but mostly just to read some bios. But, that does not mean I do not know how these contests work. I was a fan for about 3 contests already. Although I’m not as smart as Ulti or Slowflake when it comes to these contests, I believe that I can hold my own. After reviewing my bracket, I think that I have a great chance of winning this contest. Now, I’m sure mostly everyone else does too, but it does not change the way I think.

There were only a few matches that I had trouble on. Those matches I gave more detail for. For other matches (Any Sephiroth match), I gave little info on why he would win the match, since it’s pretty much a given he is winning this contest.

In closing, just want to say have fun during this contest. Hope you all do well (not really, go me!) and hope that my predictions provide you with a bit of entertainment. Now let’s all have cake.

Well, well, well, look who we have here. The King of the Koopas kicks off the Spring Contest. Will he be as strong as his seed suggests?

Wow, looks like all of Inviso’s begging DID pay off! Silent Hill enters onto the GameFAQs Contest scene for the first time, with Pyramid Head as the rep.

Well, just like a 1 vs. 16 match, 1 vs. 8 matches just aren’t that exciting. So instead of talking about this snore-fest, I’ll talk about how I feel about the Contest in general.

If there are two words that you should see a lot in this Contest, those words should be “Fanbase Leeching”. I mean, sure people will use other words like it, synonyms I guess, but you all catch my point. Most of the characters here have never been in a GameFAQs contest so far. Hell, the only people that we’ve seen already are the 1 seeds, Liquid, Luca and CATS. The other 25 characters are brand spankin’ new to GameFAQs Contests. This should turn out to be very interesting. Most of the time, we’ll be guessing about certain characters strengths. The only way to somehow estimate how strong a character is, is to compare them to a character from the same game/series that was in a previous Contest. How strong is Wily compared to Mega Man or Zero? How about Ridley or Mother Brain to Samus? Ocelot to Liquid or Solid? Vergil to Dante? Robotnik to the other Sonic characters? The list could go on and on. We all know that most of these new villains won’t be as strong as their previous Contest counterpart, but all we can do for now is assume that these villains are somewhere in the range. This is where the Fanbase Leeching fits in. With Link and Cloud not in the Contest, could this mean Ganondorf could leech off of Link’s fanbase enough to win the whole thing? Will Seph leech off Cloud’s fanbase to be an unstoppable force in this Contest? How about Bowser with Mario’s fanbase? How about the lesser characters? Will Ocelot and Liquid leech off of Solid’s fanbase, and become just like Solid clones for this contest? And will Sigma and Wily be looking like Mega Man and Zero? Does Ridley have “Samus” written all over him? All these questions, and more will be answered eventually in this contest.

Also, I gotta give props to CjayC for the bracket. It might be small, but it’s shaping up to be one of the toughest yet. We have some matches that are looking tough to predict. Sigma/Andross, Vergil/Ghaleon, Luca/Wesker, Albedo/Bison, Robotnik/Sin, and that’s only in Round 1! Round 1 also holds what could be the most important and closest Round 1 matches EVAR. Ridley vs. Diablo. This match is already getting tons of hype and discussion. The winner here could possibly win the whole division, getting this match wrong will KILL a bracket. Guess that’s why it’s called the Ruin Division. It’s nasty. All the action isn’t in Round 1 alone though, we also have some nice potential matches later on. Ocelot/Wily, Kefka vs. Ridley/Diablo, Robotnik/Kuja. Then we have the Big Three of this Contest, Ganondorf, Bowser and Sephiroth. They will definitely be the Link, Mario and Cloud of the Contest. Those three have the best chance of winning this Contest, and they all have a good chance to. (Yes, I’m crazy enough NOT to call Seph a lock for the winner.) Also, with the smaller 32-character bracket, there might actually be a perfect bracket this time! Heck, we might even have more than 1 perfect! Two things that will play a big part in determining the winner are the tiebreakers and Round 1 choices. It could possibly end up that 1 bad Round 1 pick or 1 bad tie-breaker pick could cost you the top spot. Be careful, folks.

Anyway, that’s all I have to say on the Contest so far. Hopefully, it turns out to be a great one…now there’s something I seem to be forgetting here…..

Gotta beat the champ to be one, Moltar. I'm at full strength this contest.

Oh yeah! The match going on right now! Bowser vs. Pyramid Head. Well, if you honestly don’t know who the winner of this match is going to be, you shouldn’t even be predicting this Contest. Bowser should have no problems destroying the Silent Hill villain. In fact, as a 1-seed, he has to show some massive power if he wants to be looked at as a threat. Getting out of this division isn’t going to be a walk in the park.

The ONLY reason Pyramid Head is even in this contest in the first place is because of Inviso's asking people to nominate him, which a lot of people saw coming before nominations even opened. Unfortunately, this match will show that he didn't belong here in the first place. Bowser could very well make this clown look worse than Guybrush.

Soul’s Analysis

The contest starts out with a rather boring match. I’m very happy that Bowser, one of my favorite villains, got the first #1 seed in the contest. He is facing Silent Hill 2’s villain, called Pyramid Head. To tell you the truth, I loved Silent Hill 2. The atmosphere in that game makes you scared as hell. It doesn’t need random things popping up out of everywhere to frighten you. One problem though, was that I never got to the last boss. That’s the problem with renting games instead of buying them. It was a great game nonetheless, and I’m happy it’s represented in this contest.

However, Bowser, as I said, is one of my favorite villains of all time. I like him simply because he doesn’t act like your typical FF villain. He doesn’t want to take over the world or destroy everything in his way. All he wants is to capture Peach. He goes through great lengths to do it too. Of course, it also helps if you are the main villain of one of my favorite series…

For the actual match, it’s pretty much decided that Bowser is taking the win here. I’ll give him a 77% win, just because.



Outback’s Analysis

And, as is the custom here at Board 8, the contest season begins with less of a “bang” and more of a “thud.” Here we see one of the classic villains of all time: Bowser. Ranging the gamut of emotions from “angry” to “fire-breathing angry,” Bowser rings in the first one seed and a match against Pyramid Head, a character I’ll skip over because I don’t know who he is. Anyway, this match is a dud, and Bowser will take the huge victory.
Yawn. Pyramid Head gets a bit from anti-votes. Bowser: 86.54, Pyramid Head 14.46



Inviso’s Analysis

Well, this match makes me die a little inside. It’s my favorite villain, Pyramid Head, from my favorite series, Silent Hill, giving it its first representation in five contests on Gamefaqs. Against him, is a villain I consider to have become a joke, and I also think has never exactly been much of a villain to begin with, Bowser. Sadly, my opinion is not that of Gamefaqs.

Bowser is perhaps the most famous video game villain of all time, as Sephiroth is from a relatively obscure game compared to the Mario series, and Ganondorf isn’t as prominent in his games. Anyway, Pyramid Head is from a game that is obscure, and doesn’t get the respect it deserves on Gamefaqs, because it’s not an RPG. Sad as it is to me, Pyramid Head stands little chance. He’s no Starcraft. There are no millions of Korean people waiting to save him.

My prediction: Bowser with 83.56%

i looked up some more info and pictures of Pyramid Head and that is one creepy, messed-up thing with a huge sword. he looks kinda like Cloud would if his head imploded and the leftover hair gel formed a solid mass where his head once sat. but alas, creepy looks and a huge sword aren't going to stop Pyramid Head from getting mercilessly pounded by Bowser. PH is a relatively unknown character that would be lucky if he could beat Guybrush Threepwood. Bowser, however, already has beaten Guybrush, and beaten him with 83% of the vote.

We’ve seen Mega Man, Zero, Protoman, now the evil Sigma has entered into the Contest scene.

That giant floating monkey head we all know and love. Andross enters the Contest as a 5 seed.

Hmm, this match at first glance looks a little hard to predict, but let’s just look over some things first.

Since these guys are both new to the GameFAQs Contest scene, we have no idea how strong they are. So, we’ll have to look in other places for some clues. A good place to start is to look at whatever game or series the villain has been in. Sigma comes from the MMX series, and we all know how big MM and MMX are at GameFAQs. Andross comes from the Star Fox series. Not as big as the Mega Man franchise, but it has a pretty decent fanbase nonetheless. If I were to assign a winner here, I’d give it to Sigma.

Another clue is that we can look at how other characters from the game/series performed in past GameFAQs Contests. For Sigma, we can look at 3 different MM characters. Well, let’s not count Protoman here… Mega Man is one of the strongest characters in the Summer Contests. I mean, this guy can beat most of his opponents badly. Unfortunately, Link and Sephiroth scare him. But Mega is definitely in the Top Tier when it comes to strength. Zero is also not too far behind either. In the last Contest, Zero proved he could go toe-to-toe against MM and avoid SFF, which is one heck of a feat. Sigma is looking good thanks to those guys.

Andross, on the other hand, only has one previous Star Fox character to look at, and that is Fox, who got slaughtered against Link in Round 2 in 2003. Advantage here? Definitely Sigma.

You shouldn’t really need any further convincing. Andross would have to be pretty darn strong to be able to take down Sigma, who is already looking to give Bowser some sort of challenge. Oh well, here’s my interview with Andross about this match.

This is one of those debated matches that needs no debating at all. This match comes down to Mega Man X franchise votes vs Star Fox franchise votes. Andross simply can't compete, given that the Mega Man X series is more popular than the original series on GameFAQs: http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1834.

However, Andross will dominate the fads on that day. YOU'LL NEVER DEFEAT ANDROSSSSSSSS!!

Soul’s Analysis

The fourth seeded Sigma faces the fifth seeded Andross. I love Starfox games. I loved all of them (except for the first one, since I didn’t have a SNES). Andross is a great boss too. When you’re the boss of the most quoted game of all time, it’s hard not to love him.

Sigma, on the other hand, I haven’t heard about. Reading the little blurb from CJay, he tells me that Sigma comes from the MMX series. I was never a big fan of Megaman or his games. I could see what is good about it, but I just couldn’t get into it. Anyway, this match looks to be the first hard one in the bunch. I brain is telling me to go with Sigma, but I just can’t. I can’t put a boss I’ve never heard of over Andross. So, here’s my chance pick right here. Andross wins with around 51%.



Outback’s Analysis

Andross doesn’t have the brains to rule SpC2k5
Icon, I don’t care what you say. Star Fox rocks.

Andross: the villain responsible for http://starfoxsecks.ytmnd.com. He should win by default. But, alas, he won’t. So many times I’ve shot down that giant face, only to be greeted by a giant brain. And so many times… but this isn’t the time for a stroll down memory lane.
In the other corner we have Sigma. An interesting contest entity indeed. Could it be argued that, contestwise, Sigma is actually stronger than Dr. Wily? I think so! Taking a look at the Mega Man/Zero match from SC2k4, it appears that there was no SFF at all for Mega Man, and that there was actually reverse SFF (insert WHOAMGs here). This begs the question: is this good for Wily, bad for Wily, good for Sigma, or bad for Sigma? I’m of the opinion that it’s good for Sigma, and thus I have to hand him the win here, even though it hurts me deep inside, as shown by the diagram below.

Inviso’s Analysis

Well…Sigma is from Megaman, a series I personally detest. Andross is from Starfox 64, a single game that I believe spawned “Do a barrel roll!” Anyway, on this site, Megaman is one of the strongest characters we have, and it would be a natural assumption that Sigma in turn would be a strong villain. But Sigma is not as well known as Dr. Wily I believe. I mean, I have Megaman fanatic friends, and as often as they talk about Wily, I’ve heard Sigma’s name drop only once or twice.

Andross on the other hand is from a series that hasn’t been doing so well lately. Adventures was terrible, and Assault didn’t exactly live up to anyone’s expectations. Andross does have the slight boost from having trophy cameos in Super Smash Brothers: Melee, but again, it’s one of the more common trophies, unlike the Ridley trophy, which can only be gained one way. It all comes down really to a match between two more foddery characters, and whoever has the bigger following will win.

My prediction: Sigma with 56.33%

Sigma and Andross has actually been a pretty damn heated battle for the most part, Andross always being only about a little less than 3000 votes or so behind. However, the Mega Man X fans will dispose of this monkey in the end.

Whew, it feels good to be doing this again. Bowser destroys Pyramid Head. Bowser pretty much dominated the whole day. I saw him first at 81%, then at 84% later. Pyramid Head must have won the late night vote, because he was able to bring Bowser back down into the 83's. Still a blowout though. Bowser put up some true 1-seed poer there.

Today, well, if you're a Mega Man and Sigma fan, you should be heavily disappointed. Sigma is putting on a huge under-performance here. Mega Man is supposed to equal power, but Andross is sure showing some own today. I mean, it doesn't look like he will take it, but at least he kept it close. Could this be foreshadowing for the Doctor that's not Robotnik later?

Forgive how short this writeup is, for I don't have a lot of experience in the Resident Evil series. Thankfully, it's not as if Nemesis has much of a chance in the first place. As mainstream as Resident Evil is, Metal Gear Solid flat-out trumps it.

Soul’s Analysis

It’s been so long since I’ve played a Resident Evil game not named RE4. The first time I saw Nemesis make it in here; I thought it was another random RPG character. Of course, after looking through it again, I realized my mistake. When I was playing RE games when I was younger, I sucked. I thought the controls were god awful, but the game was awesome. In fact, I got my friend to play for me. He understood the controls far better than what I understood, and he was pretty good at it.

Metal Gear Solid is one of those games that sound good, but you just haven’t had the time to play. Well, at least for me it is. I have never played an MGS game in my life. Not once. Never. I have no clue where Ocelot could stand. Some people are predicting him to beat Bowser. Of course, I don’t see that happening. I do see him winning this match though, with around 64%.



Outback’s Analysis

That’s about all I know about this match. I’ve never played the game(s) of either character, and I’ve never even heard of Nemesis. But I do know one thing. And that’s the hand gesture. So I’ll just fill this analysis like I plan on filling the other ones in which I know nothing of the villains: contest stats and crap. I believe that it’s definitely feasible for Ocelot to be as strong or (hand gesture) STRONGER then Liquid Snake. Game, Set, Handgesture, and MATCH!

Inviso’s Analysis

Well, Konami versus Capcom. This is something I love seeing, because personally, Capcom gets owned in the face every time. Ocelot has been in the three 3D Metal Gear Solid games. He does the hand gesture. Enough said. Nemesis was in Resident Evil 3, and thus, was later in the movie, Resident Evil: Apocalypse.

Resident Evil, because it’s not an RPG, or Nintendo console game, is not going to get a lot of love in the votes. But then again, Metal Gear Solid hasn’t exactly been a powerhouse. I mean, the main character almost got beaten by FROG. Of course, Resident Evil didn’t exactly show strong in the past contest. Its ONE rep was beaten by Ryu Hayabusa, a character that was highly overseeded and beaten by Sora. Anyway, despite my analysis, this is going to be a very easy match to determine. MGS3 may not even be the most popular PS2 game on Gamefaqs, but when it’s in second behind Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, that’s not half bad.

My prediction: Revolver Ocelot with 68.96%

most people on Board 8 consider this match an automatic win for Ocelot, but i'm not quite as sold on Ocelot's potential as them. he COULD be as strong as Liquid Snake or even a little stronger. but he COULD also be perceived as another old guy and have nowhere near the fans of Liquid or Solid Snake. however, there is more than enough to base a prediction off of for this match.

first of all, Nemesis was the villain in Resident Evil 3, which is pretty much the least popular entry in the main Resident Evil series. Ocelot, on the other hand, has played a major role in all three Metal Gear Solids. so, Ocelot's face has had a lot more exposure than Nemesis's hideously disfigured face. second of all, remember when MGS faced Resident Evil in last spring's Contest? MGS whomped RE with over 70% of the vote. Nemesis would have to be one heck of an unexpected powerhouse to overcome that big of a gap.

based on that, Ocelot should be able to take this one, but i won't be surprised to see Nemesis keep this one somewhat close.

Match 4 - (2) Dr. Wily vs (7) Ultros

The main protaganist (sp?) of the Mega Man series faces off against a...octopus...from FF6.

Now, this is probably one of the most important matches in the first round. Considering Ocelot's horrible flopping against Nemesis, Dr. Wily's performance against Ultros could predict the fate of Ocelot..and my bracket can't sleep thinking about it. :p And at the same time, to a tiny extent, if Ultros does great against Dr. Wily, it might help Sin beat Robuttnik. But either way, the winner of this match is fairly predictable. I mean, Dr. Wily is more recognizeable, being the main villian and all...and Ultros? He's from the same game as Kefka..who's lower than Knuckles. And obviously, Kefka > Ultros. So, it looks like Dr. Wily will just proudly walk on..after tripping on those tentacles, and such.

But, by how much is what people will be looking for....

Prediction: Dr. Wily wins, and sends his allegiance of robots for brunch on Ultros, 57.68%-42.32%.

A recurring character in FF6 and tentacle hentai, Ultros enters the Contest as a 7 seed.

Wow, you know this is a good bracket when even the 2 vs. 7 matches are causing some trouble…really, give this match a second glance. Look past the seeding for just a minute.

Dr. Wily is from the Mega Man series, and from what I discussed a couple of analyses back, we know it’s already very big on GameFAQs. However, there is a series that is bigger than MM on GameFAQs. It’s FF, or Final Fantasy for you anti-acronym people. Ultros was in the second biggest FF, Final Fantasy 6. If this match was judged on game series alone, Ultros would win there.

So wait…right now this analysis actually favors the 7 seed? We can’t have that! Dr. Wily comes from the Mega Man series. Mega Man is….wait for it….in the Mega Man series. The only FF6 rep we’ve seen so far is…Kefka. Mega Man vs. Kefka…*insert Kefka laugh here*

Hmm, but there are other characters from the FF series, like Cloud, Seph, Aeris, etc. Should Ultros be around them in strength? Nah, if he was, he would have made it into a GameFAQs contest by now. He’s pretty well-known. We don’t know, he might just suffer from Aeris-syndrome. He has a tough time in the nominations department, but if he were to get in, he’d be strong. I don’t think that’s the case here though. I’m going to stick with Kefka here, since they’re both in the same game. We all know how strong…or not strong Kefka is. I really don’t see Ultros being much stronger. Wily gets the advantage here.

Don’t get me wrong here, I’m not saying anything crazy like Wily is going to blow out Ultros. This match should be closer than the seeding makes it look. I am, however, very confident that Wily can take the octopus.

Ok, this part right here was written after Sigma/Andross. Sigma has already bombed in the Contest…ok, maybe I’m jumping the gun a little here. We don’t know how strong Andross was, but still, Sigma should have done better. This also doesn’t look good for Wily, another Mega Man villain. I’m just going to make this match a couple points closer than I did before, just because an upset here is looking better for Ultros.

Wily vs Ultros will be close. Real close. If Wily is on the level of Protoman (which I feel he is), that makes him weaker than Kefka. The only thing that caused me to put Wily in my bracket is bracket support, the fact that Ultros is most definitely weaker than Kefka, and the fact that we don't know how much SFF Protoman suffered against Zero; we just left him alonein the 2004 stats, remember?

Wily should beat Ultros, but I'll be shocked if he breaks 53% on him. Seriously. And Ocelot will just maraud his sorry ass.

I never heard of Ultros. The only FF game that I played was FFX, and that was for about 10 minutes. I didn’t like it. The only TBRPG games that I like are pokemon games. Continuing with this match, I don’t think Ultros could win. He’s from the same game as Kefka, I believe. I know Kefka’s strength. If Ultros is supposed to be a minor villain, he must be a lot lower in the stats than Kefka… right?

Dr. Wily I have heard about, mostly from the cartoon series that I used to watch (The original blue bomber, not the crappy remakes). He had those weird eyebrows right? Anyway, I think Wily is going to take this one, rather comfortably. Dr. Wily wins with 70%.



Outback’s Analysis

G’FHAHAHAHAHA

Unfortunately, this match between two of the best villains will be very one-sided. That doesn’t mean it won’t be fun though. I can just see how these two would meet in an actual battle.

BATTLE 1: THE WATER ON WAVE MAN’S STAGE
Wily and his party of robot masters (Hard Man, Wood Man, and Toad Man) are using those Jet Ski things found on Wave Man’s (MM5) stage when all of a sudden… G’FAHAHAHAHAHAH! A purple octopus carrying beer (http://www.freewebs.com/lcadwallader/10.JPG) and large tentacles pops out of the water!
After an easy battle full of tentacle slapping and projectile shooting, Wily sends Hard Man to jump into the water and vanquish the beast once and for all… or so he thought.

BATTLE 2: A ROCK CONCERT IN DENTOWN (MEGA MAN BATTLE NETWORK)
Wily and his motley crew are stopped at a rock concert when the leader of the band comes up to them and says “Dude! We need a new drummer! The old one, like, is gonna be captured or something by this guy who only needs a drummer to complete his band maaaaaaaan!”

Wily suggests that Wood Man takes the stage; the old drummer was fat too, and Wood Man is pretty mean with the sticks. But just as the show is about to start, Wily sees a note from Ultros saying that he’s out to kill the drummer!

Elsewhere…

Ultros is on top of the stadium rafters with and Xbox. “Grr… hmph… if only… this… weren’t… so heavy!”

Wily, Hard Man, and Toad Man run to Ultros and stop him just as the massive Xbox was about to land on Wood Man’s body. A fierce battle commenced on the rafters as Wood Man and the band compeletely rocked the hizzy down below.

After a thorough beating, Ultros retreated. But what’s this? AIR MAN ON HIS AIR SHIP! Air Man swooped down and captured Wood Man, finally completing his Rock Band, but not before Wily and Co. hopped aboard as well, thinking, although wrong, that Ultros was gone for good.

Well, remember how I said Wily was the strongest character from Megaman. Well here he is, with a chance to score the biggest round 1 blowout of his division. Megaman is a big series, and a big character on Gamefaqs, so the main villain SHOULD be relatively strong. Plus, any old man that looks good in a bikini=instant win.

His chance at the big blowout comes from the fact that he is facing Ultros. Ultros is a villain from Final Fantasy VI, but he’s not THE villain from that game, Kefka is. Kefka has a problem facing anyone even relatively strong, and struggled a bit with PACMAN. Ultros is not on the same level as Kefka, and hence, Ultros will be owned, tentacle rape or not.

My prediction: Dr. Wily with 87.11%

Today...speaking of Wily, remember when I said he would probably bomb because Sigma didn't impress? Well, I was wrong as usual. But it will be short! If you are trying to win this Contest and honestly think Ramirez will beat Sephiroth, you should just quit at the Interweb and go try to do something else with you life. Like join a club, or beat up smaller people, or find a cure for a disease. Just stay away from predicting brackets.

This one doesn’t need a long write up really. Anyone and their grandmothers know that Sephiroth is going to win this contest. There’s only 3 people in the entire contest that could probably break 40% on him, that being Ganondorf, Bowser and Liquid Snake. To make matters worse, I never heard of Ramirez before. Sephy wins this one with a strong 84%.

At first glance, Sephiroth and Ramirez have a couple of striking similarities. And since first glance is all I have to go off, that's what I'll talk about.

Other than that, I, the uneducated gamer, can't see too much of a difference between the two. While I'm sure that they're very different, I really couldn't care less about such a boring match at this point.

Inviso’s Analysis

Let’s go into a long list as to why Sephiroth is going to score the blowout of the contest. He’s from FFVII, the only rep from the most popular game on the entire website. He’s the toughest boss (optional) in Kingdom Hearts. He just owns all others. Ramirez…is from a cult classic…and…doesn’t have a lot going for him.

Last summer, Vyse, the main character of Skies of Arcadia, took out Laharl, another obscure character, just barely. He then took on FFVII’s main character, Cloud Strife, and got completely ***** owned. Vyse is probably the strongest thing SoA could throw out, and Cloud pounded on him like nobody’s business. Sephiroth is not that much weaker than Cloud, as the stats show, but there are reasons to believe Ramirez would be even weaker.

My prediction: Sephiroth with 89.12%

And before I go to bed for the night, I guess I'll deal out of my input.

Match 5 - (1) Sephiroth vs (8) Ramirez

*yawns* I'm so tired right now that I don't even feel like writing..not that I have to actually write much for such an easy match.

So..yeah, Sephiroth, the biggest villian of the biggest game on this site, FF7, faces off against Ramirez, some character from..oh god, he's so obscure I even forgot the game he's from, let me get out my Board 8 Nominations archive..*checks*..oh, Skies of Arcadia.

So, what do we know to help us in this match? Oh, why of course! Sephiroth's going to win the ****ing contest. XD Like, he's part of the Big 3 (Clinkeroth, or whatever), and between the other 2/3 of the Big 3 (Cloud and Link) not in this contest due to the "Villians Only" sign, and Sephiroth being the only Noble Nine character in this contest, who's going to stop him? Hell, who's going to make him break a sweat? Well, for the sake of this match's analysis, I'll say that it definitely won't be Ramirez, not by a long shot, considering it's safe to say he's weaker than Vyse. Hell, maybe Sephiroth will give Ramirez a beating so deadly that only Tanner will be able to know he feels after it's all over. Infact, I'll go with that. :-)

Well, it looks like considering all this, Ramirez will be a mere sacrifice for Sephiroth to thurst his sword through in his path to a foregone championship.

And unlike Sigma, Wily does not disappoint. Ocelot better hope Ultros was, like in FF6, a complete joke, because if he isn't, then he is in some trouble next round. Then again, Ocelot and Wily is turning into the biggest Round 2 affairs we have ever seen. Both are looking pretty even going into it, and either can run away with the win. Wily also had more bracket support on his side, but Ocelot faced a tougher opponent...whew.

Today, Seph is owning like every exepected. He should be climbing fast soon.

One thing I have been forgetting to mention for awhile are bracket percentages!

96.13% of the brackets called Bowser/Pyramid Head correctly. This is pretty good for the King Koopa. Then again, he faced complete fodder.

Vergil is from Devil May Cry 3, which was released not too long ago for the PS2. Now I haven’t played it yet, but from what I hear, it’s as good as the first DMC, and way better than DMC2. Ghaleon is from the cult RPG series, Lunar. Now, I honestly have no clue how big Lunar is on GameFAQs, but I do know Ghaleon is well-liked on our boards. With much board support, Ghaleon got into the Contest. Vergil mostly got in from outside support.

On Vergil’s side, he has Dante to look at. You know, Dante who scores a 4 seed every Contest and ranks around 20th each time? Vergil is following in his footsteps, earning himself a 4 seed here. He wouldn’t want to rank around 20th here though… Ghaleon is the first Lunar representative in a GameFAQs Contest, so this turns out to be interesting…

So, a safe bet for this match is to go with Vergil. We know how strong Dante is, and we also know DMC3 is somewhat big at GameFAQs. The risky path is going with Ghaleon. He's the first Lunar character to ever enter a GameFAQs Contest and the Lunar fans are a quiet crew. I took the safe path in this match and stuck with the V-man.

Hmm…the more and more I think about it now, the more I think Vergil will win by. I originally had this match at 53-47, but after some thought and Ghaleon’s match picture, I have increased Vergil’s margin significantly.

Just call me the uneducated gamer. Seriously. I don't even know why I bother anymore. Needless to say, I don't know either of these characters. From what I hear, Vergil's from DMC 3, and I've known that Ghaleon's from Lunar for a while, I just haven't had the chance to play the series.

Anyway, I interviewed some people (read: 2 people) at my school (G-E-T High) to see what the people thought.

Vergil is a one time character from a recent game Devil May Cry 3. As we all know, DMC characters are notorious for getting 4 seeds in every character contest. Ghaleon is a main villain from the Lunar series, and if I’ve been informed correctly, he’s in most, if not all of the games.

Now, as much as the board would like to believe, Ghaleon is not a strong villain. Lunar is a relative unknown to anyone higher than Lunar fanboys. Devil May Cry, again, always gets a 4 seed, and manages to push Dante through at least one round each time. This is not to say Vergil will be strong. Dante isn’t exactly a powerhouse. But Vergil will easily be able to beat Ghaleon.

My prediction: Vergil with 63.79%

Mother Brian is the 1st of 2 Metroid villains to make their appearance in the Contest.

Hmm, not as hard to predict as some other Round 1 matches, but it does take some thought.

Chrono Trigger vs Metroid…interesting, but we all know who the winner there is. CT placed 2nd in the Best Game Ever, whereas Metroid and Metroid Prime weren’t as high. We’ve also seen Crono, Magus and Frog in past Contests, and we all know how well they have done. Lavos can easily follow in their footsteps. In Mother Brain’s corner, we have Samus to look at. Not much, but a Crono vs. Samus match would be very interesting. However, I’m giving the nod here to Lavos’s crew. 3 stronger characters to look at > 1.

So, Lavos wins easily. Well, he might have more trouble in the real match, but I’m pretty convinced Lavos will be the winner of this match. All Mother Brain can do here is cry back to Father Brain.

This is one of those matches between two characters from popular games, yet the people who play the games could likely care less about the characters. This match will likely come down to whose game is more

Lavos also plays a far more important role in Chrono Trigger than Mother Brain plays in Super Metroid. Mother Brain is little more than a nameless blob you fight at the end of a couple of the games, whereas Lavos is all over the place in Chrono Trigger. It may not be a landslide, but Lavos should still win rather easily.

That makes 2 for 7 in matches where I know both characters! Kick ass!

I really, really wish Mother Brain could win here. I really do. As most of you know, Lavos comes from Chrono Trigger, a game hailed on this board as one of the best ever and Spc2k4's runner up. Seriously, somebody tell me why. I tried to play Chrono Trigger and to get into it. I really did. Nothing managed to grip me. After I reached Zeal my save file got deleted and I never started again. The characters were uninspiring, the battles were boring, and the story was uninteresting. If I had to use one word to describe Chrono Trigger, it would be SLOW

Mother Brain comes from the Metroid series, a series that dates all the way back to the NES. Action at its finest, whether or not you prefer 2D side-scrollers or 3D First Person Adventures. Mother Brain is in Metroid and Super Metroid, two of the greatest games in the series.

By now I'm sure you know my opinion on this match, but I'll be realistic. Lavos and CT is just too much for Mother Brain.

Well…two foddery bosses that’ll fall to a much stronger enemy next round. Sounds like the Vergil/Ghaleon match, only this time, it’s two old school bosses. Yay. Both bosses are basically going to be obscure, and I predict a very low vote total. Lavos is an unknown in his game, and Mother Brain is a rather pathetic looking final boss, that seems like a rather pathetic excuse from what I’ve seen and heard.

Anyway, Mother Brain is more recognizable, maybe, but Lavos does come from the game that placed second in the last spring contest. It’s going to come down to a simple matter of who is more able to appeal to the crowds. Judging by their “Meet the Villains” pictures, they’re both up **** creek without a paddle. This match really could go either way, so when in doubt, go with the high seed.

As stated earlier, I haven’t played a MGS game. However, I know a lot about the Snake brothers. I know they are a force to be reckoned with. God CJayC, why couldn’t you make Snake face Bowser? Why was it so hard to make a huge bracket-breaker match like that?

Officer Tenpenny is from GTA: SA. I have SA here, in my PS2. Unfortunately, I don’t enjoy it as much as Vice City. I don’t like the excessive profanity (There I go using big words again) in the game at all. I also don’t like the missions, especially the one I’m stuck at. The racing level = so freaking hard! I gave up on it when I rented RE4 and DMC3. I couldn’t go back to it afterwards.

Tenpenny is Samuel L. Jackson’s character. He’s a dirty cop, trying to bust CJ anyway possible. That’s all I got so far in the game. I don’t consider him that much of a villain though, but to each their own I guess.

Liquid Snake is ranked 3rd in this contest for a reason. He should take this match rather easily, with 80% of the votes.

So I have a friend at my school who started to come here on a semi-regular basis now that the contest started, and we sometimes have discussions on who will win on what day and stuff like that. Today I mentioned how the top half was so easy to predict, and he said that he agreed but had some upsets in just for fun (he didn't enter for prizes), and one of these upsets was Tenpenny over Liquid. I know that he's a pretty big MGS fan as well as a pretty big GTA fan, so I asked him why he'd put Tenpenny over Liquid, and he said "Liquid isn't even a real villain. The only time you even have to fight him is when he takes over Ocelot, and I consider that to be more of an Ocelot fight than a Liquid fight."

I'm not really sure if I should put any stock into this or not, but it's making me think twice about Ocelot/Liquid's strength. Either way, there's no chance Tenpenny is a MC or Frog.

Now, in theory, this could be interesting, but in all honesty, it’s not going to be. Grand Theft Auto always gets a villain into the contest, mainly because of the casuals. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas also managed to win Gamefaqs game of the year. Do not let this fool you. The Grand Theft Auto series is always hyped as hell when it takes out a weak character, but can’t stand up to anyone with any strength.

Liquid Snake has strength. Last summer, he came very close in vote percentages to his main character counterpart, Solid Snake, and in fact, many believe Liquid deserves the one seed more than Kefka. Liquid should easily defeat a villain from a game that is not as much about villains, but more about driving around and being a total thieving badass. Metal Gear Solid actually has a chance to be strong in a contest with so many weak characters.

I’m afraid of saying anything about him hear, just in case I spoil anything. Then again, what hasn’t been spoiled for you poor ToS fans?

Oh boy, enter the Ruin Division. This Division is possibly the scariest one since the last Spring Contest. Remember, the bottom division? With Starcraft and SSBM? That one. Here, brackets will bleed and stats will shatter. Perfects will fade, crying and whining will rise again.

Of course though, you can’t just enter a division with a BANG!. Halo/Starcraft did it, but no match with Kefka and Mithos can follow in those footsteps. Kefka isn’t very strong in the Summer Contest, so it is a bit surprising that he nailed a 1 seed here. Liquid would probably be much more deserving of it. Mithos hails from ToS, and if a ToS character like Mithos can get in here, then maybe 1 or 2 can get in the Summer Contest. I mean, we already have many CT, Sonic and Mega Man characters, and the Final Fantasy guys and gals can have their own division!

Uh, here, let me try and stay on track…Kefka will beat Mithos….now to end before I lose track of myself again. I tend to lose track of a lot of things. One minute I could be talking about the match, another it could be something completely different, possibly even something not GameFAQs rel-ALAYEELAYAEEYAEEEYEAYYE!

Kefka is from FF6. A game which a lot of people consider is the best FF game ever. To me, the best would have to be FFX. Why? Because it's the only one that I have played, even if it was only for 10 minutes.

Mithos is from ToS. Again, another RPG game that I refuse to play. Well, refuse would be too harsh really. A game that I do not want to play.

You know what that means? Since I have no clue who these guys are, it's time to relay on the stats and popular opinion. We all know Kefka is not that strong of a character. I'm sure Ulti will provide you with
the X-Stats of Kefka. Just got word Ulti is not using X-Stats. OH well, I'm sure you all know he's not the strongest FF villain. Although I'm sure Kefka has this match won, this information will be key to his next matches. He is overseeded, to say it bluntly. He should not have got a 1 seed. The 1 seed should have gone to Ridley and Diablo should have had the 2 seed. That way, we will see those two in the Division finals. Instead, we have the meant for 3 seed Kefka taking the top spot.

Anyway, Kefka wins with 64.06%.

Kefka Palazzo of FFVI is my personal favorite villain of all time; right from the quote that we all know and love ("Ahem! I've got SAND on my boots!") to the final battle, Kefka was a villain that kept me into the game. Although his final battle was unremarkable in terms of difficulty, that doesn't take much away from him, especially considering his opponent's final battle was just as lackluster if not easier.

Mithos Yggdrasiil of ToS is another villain who comes from a great game, but I didn't feel the connection to him as I did to Kefka. Mithos was just a plot device to me, and had nothing on characters like Botta, Yuan, or Rodyle. His whole motivation is his sister, and, like Kefka, the final fight against him is rather easy. I'm voting Kefka in this match, and Kefka will win.

And today, the Ruin division begins with the only match that no one has in question, at all. Kefka is the villain of FFVI, a very popular game on Gamefaqs, while Mithos is from Tales of Symphonia, a decent seller on the Gamecube, but nothing more than cult. This match was over before it began…but the big point of it is how well Mithos can do on Kefka. This will help determine Kefka’s strength for his next few matches.

Now, you see…Kefka…is a weak bastard. In 2003, he narrowly beat Pacman…a character more pathetic than sandy boot boy. Then he was gang-shanked by one person, in the form of Crono, before getting beaten against by Knuckles in 2004. Now, Kefka…most likely won’t win his division. He may be the one seed, but come on, he’s a pathetic choice. Liquid Snake should’ve been here…evened out the bracket so people could get it perfect. If Kefka has trouble with Mithos, he’ll have trouble with his next opponent, and could definitely lose.

My Prediction: Kefka with 74.06%

First let’s look at the series these guys are from. Luca is from Suikoden II and Wesker is from RE. Hey, they were both in the Best Game Ever Contest, weren’t they! Let’s go look at those good ol’ extrapolated stats that we all love.

Go check out the beating Magus gave to Luca Blight last summer. I love Magus, but he has to be facing complete trash in order to break 80% on anyone. Add in that this match is essentially Suikoden 2 vs every mainstream Resident Evil fan, I doubt Blight has much of a chance. The beating Wesker will lay on blight is going to fuel every Wesker over Kefka debate imaginable too, you watch.

Well…fanboys *****ed at Ghaleon getting his ass owned, and it made me feel so good inside. Now, it’s going to happen again. Luca Blight is from Suikoden, a series that is cult at best on Gamefaqs. He may have gotten into a contest before, but so did Tanner…so that’s not saying much. Wesker is from Resident Evil, and is quite a few of the games. He’s also been a playable character in Resident Evil 4, a game that has high chances of being game of the year 2005.

Again, this match should be pretty easy, as the only factor working against Wesker is the previous contest factor. With Nemesis doing quite respectably against a stronger foe that Luca, Albert Wesker is going to have a very easy time winning this match. But, it then comes down to how powerful of a character is he. If he manages to do decently, he could take out Kefka next round, and ensure a sweet little upset pick.

Albedo is from Xenosaga, a huge cult favorite. It also gets some love at GameFAQs. M. Bison hails from the Street Fighter franchise. Now this is big just about everywhere, including GameFAQs. Sure, it can’t be SMRPG, but I would bet that it could beat Xenosaga. SF just has an outstanding fanbase, while Xenosaga’s yet decent, just can’t compare.

NOBODY EXPECTS THE RYU/KOS-MOS POLL FROM SC2K4! Well, you should have expected it. I mean, come on, this match is just like Part 2, except Ryu = Bison and KOS-MOS = Albedo. Even Albedo has the higher seed, just like KOS-MOS did. We all know who won that match too….foreshadowing, perhaps? Street Fighter is bigger than Xenosaga, Ryu is better than KOS-MOS…but wait. What about Ken? He might have missed the ’04 Contest, but in 2003, he wasn’t too far behind KOS-MOS…hmmm.

Ok, the smart pick here is to go for the upset. We all know Bison won’t be as strong as Ryu, but Albedo also won’t be as strong as KOS-MOS. If Ryu can whoop KOS-MOS, and Ken can get close, Bison should be able to take Albedo with little trouble.

Wow…two upsets so far in 1 division. In only Round 1 too. Who knows what’s in store for the rest of the Rounds here, and what’s in store for the most hyped match of Round 1, Ridley vs. Diablo. We have some hardcore analyzation on that match…coming up next.

This is one of the more talked about matches in Round 1, close behind Ridley/Diablo and Robotnik/Sin. Looking at this match, I don't see Albedo being anywhere near KOS-MOS, and while I wouldn't place Bison anywhere near Ryu or even Ken, I'd still give him enough strength to beat somebody as obscure as Albedo.

Well, at first I went into this match thinking, “Heh, I’ve never even heard of either character before, but Albedo is 3D, and from Xenosaga…how can he lose?” But after some time, I thought about my choice, really thought about it, and changed my option. This is the only first round match I’m not really sure about. Albedo is from Xenosaga, a popular game by many standards. Bison is from Street Fighter, the only fighting game on this site that gets any respect.

Now, we really have only two things to judge this match by. One is the recent Summer Contest match between 8 seed KOS-MOS (most popular character in Xenosaga) and 9 seed Ryu (most popular character in Street Fighter). In this match, KOS-MOS was expected to win, and was beaten before Ryu went on to lose respectably to Sonic the Hedgehog. And also, Street Fighter has not only had Ryu, but also Ken Masters, in the contests. Xenosaga only has KOS-MOS. Now, M. Bison is a playable character, and even though he’s obscure, so is Albedo, and KOS-MOS is the only character with any fanbase from Xenosaga. But maybe I’m overestimating Street Fighter; it did lose to Super Mario RPG after all.

Diablo…I heard of the game, but I didn’t know that was an actual character, interesting.

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, fanboys and fangirls, nerds and nerdettes, we are approaching the end of the Ruin division. Fasten your seatbelts, cause this is one wild finish.

The Ruin Division has already lived up to its name with some sick matches, but this one just takes the cake. This match has gotten tons of hype and discussion since the brackets came out. The 2nd seeded Ridley, takes on the dangerously under-seeded Diablo. Well, before this gets personal, I’m going to start out professional.

Ridley comes straight outta Metroid. We all know how big the Metroid Series is, expanding from the little NES, to the…equally as small GameCube. From Metroid to Metroid Prime 2, with some huge hits like Super Metroid in between. Diablo…well, if you didn’t figure it out yet, comes from the Diablo series. Now, there might only be a Diablo and Diablo 2, but they are both PC hits. And when I say PC hit, I’m talking huge sales numbers. Diablo has, without a doubt, outsold the Metroid series. Trust me on this… Ok, even if you don’t trust me, you can trust Heroic Mario. The Diablo series has sold over 13 million copies, while Metroid has sold about 3 million less. Pretty good for only 2 games… On GameFAQs, it’s pretty close. I’d give a slight edge to Metroid though, since it’s fans are a bit more vocal than the Diablo ones. Though I must admit, lately, the Diablo fans have been in full force.

Past Contest strength would easily go to Metroid. One word: Samus. Diablo has had no past representatives; Diablo is the first. Ridley is looking good due to the fact that Samus is a strong character. Ridley can’t be horribly weak then…

Anyway, now it’s time to get personal. I’m going to come out and say it right now, I am GA-…I mean, I have Ridley winning this huge controversial match. Yes, I might not be as risky as some of my Crew members, but it’s better playing it safe than to take a risk. Many people are comparing this match to Halo/Starcraft from the last Contest. Halo = Ridley, and Diablo will be this years Starcraft. The people who are saying that, in my opinion, are just using the Blizzard/Starcraft thing as an excuse to have Ridley over Diablo. All because it happened with Starcraft, doesn’t mean it will happen with Diablo.

Another excuse from the Diablo fans hoping for the upset is that because since the name of the game is Diablo, the character will win. Now come on, if somebody hasn’t played Diablo before, like me, they wouldn’t know the bad guy in the game is also named Diablo. Only the people who played it will know. It’s like saying a Metroid would do good because the name of the series is Metroid. It just doesn’t work like that. Need more proof? We didn’t see Zelda steam-rolling over her opponents when she made it in 2003. Zelda is even a bigger name than Diablo, so if that didn’t help her much, why would it do the same for Diablo?

Let’s see, what else is there. Diablo has sold more copies, but that doesn’t mean that Diablo will win it there. Heck, if that was the case, we would be seeing games like Pokemon and Mario dominate. The point I’m trying to make here is that yes, Diablo has a chance, but some of the reasons that say he is “guaranteed” a win are just asinine. Now I’ll say some things about Ridley.

Ridley is from the Metroid series, as I’ve stated before. This series is more mainstream that Diablo. People have known about the series and Ridley since the NES days. When you think of big Nintendo characters, you include Samus. People know about Metroid. The people who have played Metroid, just like with Diablo, will know who Ridley is. I think the Ridley fans will speak louder than the Diablo fans in this match, but both sides will be screaming their heads off.

Also, we have already seen Mother Brain in action, and it didn’t do too bad. It put up almost 45% on Chrono Trigger’s Lavos. That’s pretty impressive to me, as I expected Lavos to win with over 60%. Of course, this could mean that Lavos wasn’t as strong as we thought, but it could also mean that Mother Brain is actually of decent strength. If it is the latter, which I am hoping, this means that Ridley is looking pretty good, but we still know nothing about Diablo…

Ok, now my final thoughts. Yes, this match is tough and important. Not only does the winner get to move on to the next round, but either villain has a chance to take this division. The brackets will be torn in this match, even if Ridley is the favorite, expect a good chunk of risk-takers here. This could not only end up costing you 1 point, but several points here. And in this kind of small bracket, every point is nessacary in order to take the prize. This match should be close, and we might even see shades of Halo/Starcraft here. Good luck with this one folks…

"The scary thing about Diablo is what Starcraft did last spring, and we're all quick to assume B.net spamming as the main culprit. As someone who is on B.net every day, I can tell you that no one gives a damn about some random idiot spamming. People are on that site to play the game, not to listen to your average botter (who we deal with every day; the Spring 2004 Contest was nothing new). Starcraft's main
strength came from fan sites, and there are a ton of fan sites. Personally, I don't really think B.net mattered all that much at all, and this will translate into a massive overestimation of Diablo in this match.

Of course, this bring up the fact that Diablo doesn't need much outside support to beat Ridley in the first place. Diablo 2's board has 13 pages of topics right now, and his game is named after him. Over 10 million total copies of the various Diablo titles were sold; people know who he is, both on and off this site. And given the massive casual turn that this site has taken over the past year (Halo, GTA, RE4 all being so popular), Diablo will have his fair share of support. It's safe to say that Kerrigan could easily lose to Ridley, and she would; but Diablo is a lot different.

Ridley isn't exactly a weakling, though. He may be cult, but this is GameFAQs; only Earthbound can be considered both Nintendo and cult around this place. For everyone who knows who Diablo is, there is someone who knows who Ridley is, regardless of the actual popularity of the two characters. Old school anything may not fly, but Ridley has appeared in Metroid Prime. The big thing working against Ridley is that one, Metroid anything loses to Diablo 2 in a direct poll. If this match turns into a franchise voting affair, Ridley could easily bite the dust early. Two, Ridley will have to rely on bracket voting far more than Diablo will. Three, Diablo's name is all over his games, and he's on the cover. In the entire Metroid series, how often does Ridley's name actually show up within the games? To my knowledge, only in Prime and Zero Mission. This means that Ridley will have to get votes based off of being recognized, because a lot of people may not even know what his name is.

Ridley already has his fans from the Metroid games. Diablo already has his fans from the Diablo games. This match will be decided by everyone else. Diablo is more mainstream, and he will have the bracket vote advantage in the match. Ridley has to hope that the casuals recognize and vote for him based off of his franchise, which is a problem Diablo clearly does not have."

Here we go. The most anticipated match on the card. The main event of the evening folks! In this corner, weighing in at only God knows, he's mean, he's purple, and he is here to win! HERE'S RIDLEY!

Ok, ok, enough of that… for now. This match is extremely hyped on this board. In fact, it is the most hyped match in the entire contest. On one side, we have Heroic Mario's points about why Ridley will win. The other, UltimaterializerX, with his views on why Diablo will win. I have popped in and out of their topics and formed my own conclusions way before they put up theirs. The winner of this match will be, no other than Diablo. You want to know why? Here's why.

Just before I get started. I am not a Roman. I did not take Debating class in school. I did not master the form of argumentation. I'm going by the facts and my hypothesis. If you disagree, so be it.

Alright, as we all know, Diablo is from BNet. Diablo is made by Blizzard. Diablo is the only PC game character to enter the contest. Diablo is extremely underseeded. A few facts for you before I get started:

1. Diablo 2 has lasted the third longest on the top 50 FAQ pages list with 1364 days. It is currently ranked 37th. The two games that stayed on their longer are OoT (Ranked 48th, 2124 days on the chart) and FF7 (Ranked 26th, 2387 days on the chart).

2. Diablo 2's board hovers around the 20 page mark. That means that D2 has a lot of fans, and they are already at GameFAQs.

Those two points basically show that Diablo 2 is known. If you go on Battle Net, you could find thousands of people playing online, and probably even more playing single player. Of course, than there's Diablo 2: LoD, again with thousands of people on multiplayer and single player. Of course, move on to Diablo (First in the series). Than there's the under-appreciated Diablo: Hellfire. Each one of these games are still being played today.

Ah, the Gamespot polls. How I love thee. You want to know something interesting? I have never been to Gamespot. I just heard about the polls the other day. But, I heard D2 unleashed its 24 inch pythons and ran wild on you! Err, ok, I'll try to cut with the wrestling jokes…>_>

So, Diablo the game has proven to be a strong competitor in contests. That's all well and good, but where does that leave Diablo the character?

Listen here maggots, I'm only going to say this once and than elaborate on what I said. When you hear about Diablo the series, most people will think of Diablo the character. No, they won't think of Amazons. No, not Necromancers. Not even Sorceress', Barbarians, Druids, Paladins or Assassins. They will think of the three brothers. Lord of Destruction, Baal. Lord of Anguish (or something like that), Mephisto. Finally, the Lord of Terror himself, Diablo. Mostly, they will think of Diablo, since you know, his name is the title of the series.

Looking back at the last Spring Contest… Looking all the way to before the contest… Ulti made this speech. This wasn't any ordinary speech though. It told us all that Starcraft will, indeed, beat Halo, and he told us how. Most of us didn't believe him. You can kind of guess what happened…

Skip ahead to the present. Ulti again tells us that Diablo is going to win. Hey, he wasn't wrong before, so why now?

The casuals. Oh how I love thee. The casuals will play a major role in this match. When looking at the pictures, you will see a Demon facing a Dragon (or purple dinosaur, like I said). Everyone knows that Demons > Dragons, so Diablo will get the CPF (Cooler Picture Factor) on his side. Also, when they, being the casuals, see the name Ridley, they'll be like "meh". When they see Diablo, they'll think about the devil. And you know, the devil is really popular with today's kids. Diablo will get a lot of votes that way.

Although Ridley is from a semi-popular series, he is not the main character in the game. That belongs to Samus. Samus is the major driving force behind the Metroid series. When someone asks you "Hey, do you know who the major driving force behind the Metroid series is?" you're going to answer Samus. Will you answer Ridley? No, because you will answer Samus…

When someone asks you "Hey Yo! *Flicks toothpick* Do you know who the main driving force behind those addicting Diablo games is?" You will answer: "Yes, it's the Amazon". The guy will say: "What are you, a wise guy? It's Diablo you klutz". Err, yeah. So, Diablo is the major driving force, character wise, behind the Diablo series. Can the next Diablo game exclude Diablo and still sell? No. Same question for Ridley? Yes. Metroid already made two games without Ridley. Although MP2 failed, kind of, it wasn't because of lack of Ridley. It was because of Nintendo's bright idea to begin selling it when the next installments of HL, Halo, GTA, and MGS came out, all series that are more popular than Metroid.

After all this writing, after all this analyzing of this match, I have come down with one conclusion. Diablo is going to be a beast of a character in this contest. It's going to take a monster (or a pig from Gerudo) to take him down. A dragon might come close, but as the popular saying goes: *RKO's you!*

And I'm spent. Diablo with 51.57%.

I have no real strong feelings for either character in this match. I don't play Diablo/D2 (although I plan on doing so soon), and while I love the 2D Metroids, I really don't see that much in Ridley. He's just a flying dragon. Anyway, Diablo is going to have the mainstream vote, and thus will take this.

Well well well…here we are, at the board’s most contested match of the first round. Half the board thinks it’ll be Ridley, the most prominent villain of the Metroid series. Half of the board thinks it’ll be Diablo, the villain and cover face of the Diablo series. Could Ridley be as strong as Samus? I mean, Mother Brain showed unforeseen power in her match against Lavos. Could Diablo be the next Starcraft? I mean, Starcraft beat Halo out of NOWHERE.

Well, in order to determine this match, let’s take a look at each competitor. Ridley…is a dragon from the Metroid series. He’s been in every Metroid game except Metroid 2 and Metroid Prime 2. He also makes an appearance in Super Smash Brothers: Melee, in the opening scene where he bursts through a wall to fight Samus…not to mention being a trophy. Ridley is from a series that has made it into the contest, and proved to be strong, even in the early days, when Samus Aran beat Sonic the Hedgehog in 2002.

Diablo comes from the Diablo series, a series of only two games, yet has a high sell rate of over 11 million. Its message board has 15 pages, despite not being a game that was released in the past 2 years. That has to account for something. Diablo is the devil himself in these games, and is a force to be reckoned with. His game also comes from the same company that made Starcraft, the game that brought new meaning to the term underseeded.

Now, when you look at Gamefaqs, the main two types of fanboys you find are Nintendrones and Squareheads. Nintendo and Square can typically kick anything’s ass in a contest, ANYTHING. Ridley is from Nintendo’s current big series, Metroid, and he has a huge fanbase on Gamefaqs. Ridley is also from a game where character may not be that important, but the characters are definitely more emphasized.

Diablo…is no Starcraft. Games are usually much more popular than characters, and Diablo isn’t even from Starcraft. Diablo also has the misfortune of being a PC character, on a console strong site. I mean, this is the site that had Gordon Freeman lose to Tina Armstrong, Sam Fisher, and Max Payne. Diablo is also from a game where, like Metroid, character isn’t that important, but character isn’t exactly emphasized either. Most MMORPGs, RTS, and games like Diablo don’t exactly have decent characters that could be contest worthy. I mean, look at Kane from Command & Conquer. He was beaten by Bomberman, a character that nowadays is mere fodder.

With the strength of Mother Brain shown clearly, and the superiority of Ridley to her, I believe this match could be an easy win for the dragon. And on a final note, Diablo x Anyone lemons are nowhere near as hot as Ridley x Samus.

My Prediction: Ridley with 53.61%

After we had the huge match beforehand, we're left with a squash match. Ganondorf will win this one easily. Earthbound is too cultish to win, and since it won't get the Nintendo vote, it will get SQUASH'D! Ganondorf with the highest victory of the round with 90%. This 90% will show to everyone that he is a powerhouse, and he will make the finals. Of course, some people will doubt Sephy's win with this blowout though, but to those people: IT AIN'T HAPPENIN! Seph is going to win.

Ganon or Ganondorf? This probably won't make a difference, but don't be surprised if we don't see a single match pic involving Ganondorf from OoT. "Ganon" means WW and LoZ. This probably won't have much impact on his strength, but it'll be interesting to see.

I don't really know much about Giygas, but I hear his battle is one of the most intense boss battles ever. That's not going to help him against the Zelda villain, though.

Okay, finally, a match that could be a bigger blowout than Pyramid Head vs. Bowser. FINALLY! Ganondorf is the second strongest villain in this contest, despite getting SFF-ed to hell and back by Link in the 2004 Summer Contest. He’s from the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the second most popular game on this site, and from Super Smash Brothers: Melee, as the most powerful CPU character (damn you Ulti and your always beating Princess Zelda-ness)

Gigyas…I still don’t know what the **** this thing is. It’s from Earthbound, which is cult as hell, and it’s main character is weak, even AFTER getting pumped from Super Smash Brothers: Melee. Ramirez, Mithos…I had heard those names before this contest. I may not have known them…but I did know the names. Earthbound is cult as hell and there’s no way this match will be difficult to predict.

Ok…I couldn’t help myself…but really, when the brackets were first released that night, CATS fans jumped for joy. CATS finally had a chance to win a match. I mean, who was Ansem?

Then it clicked, “Oh…the guy from Kingdom Hearts.” And just as quickly as they were brought up, they came crashing right back down. Oh well…I’m sure their temporary high was something to be proud of, or something.

This match is one of those hyped matches that are not supposed to be hyped. CATS will come nowhere near victory here. Ansem is from a popular Square RPG. CATS has a few memorable lines. Some people will use the argument about CATS making it into the Summer Contest every year. Yes, CATS has a few fans. All of them nominate him in. Hell, CJayC probably nominates CATS as well. He's just an awesome character.

But, as FF7 Vs. OoT showed us, being more awesome than the opponent does not mean a win. Ansem is from a popular Square RPG. I realized I said that before, but just let that statement sink in.

Ansem is no doubt going to win this. RPG's dominate this site, more than any other genre. That's enough proof you need right there. Besides, despite what the CATS army says, CATS isn't that popular. The only thing that he has going for him is the horrible translation. That's it. Well, maybe the Bohemian Rhapsody parody done CATS style will give him a bit more votes, but still not enough. By the way, I <3 whoever created that parody.

NOBODY EXPECTS THE DELL DUDE TO BE ARRESTED BY LADY MIAOW IN POLAND! Anyway, CATS is perhaps the most random and bizarre villains EVER. And he gives me an excuse to type stuff in CAPS. Ansem is from Kingdom Hearts, the main villain that you fight not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times. He’s actually a pretty cool villain, as opposed to the running gag that is CATS.

CATS…How are you gentleman? What happen? Well, somebody set you up the bomb. You have no chance to survive, make your time. All your base are belong to Ansem. Robotnik vs. Sin, alright, let’s get this started. Robotnik is an old-school baddie. He’s been chasing Sonic down since the Genesis era. His inventions are crazy, yet brillant. They never seem to get the job done though…oh well. Sin is a new-school villain, coming from the hugely-popular Final Fantasy X. You know, Sin *SPOILERS! SPOILERS! BUZZ BUZZ! TRUCK GO HONK!* and *DOES IT NEVER END, WHOAMG (>^_^)><(^_^<)*. Anyway, let’s begin the analyzation.

Robotnik comes from the Sonic series, which is good. In fact, it would be really good if your opponent didn’t come from a series called Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy = Instant Win in the series department. No competiton there. In the previous Contests, Robotnik has had Sonic, Shadow, Tails, and Knuckles to look after. That’s good, and it would be really good if his opponent didn’t come from a series named Final Fantasy. I’m not going to even bother naming all the FF characters that have made it into the Contest, so instead, we’ll only look at the FFX characters. That’s Tidus and Yuna. Heck, I’ll give the whole FF vs. Sonic history right here, just because I’m such a good guy

Right now, the Sonic crew is up 4-3 over the FF crew. But now onto the important matter, Sonic vs. FFX. Sonic beat Tidus back in 2002, Knuckles beat Yuna in 2003, and Tidus beat Shadow in 2004. That means, right now, the Sonic series is leading there as well.

Ok, now for all those who say “S1N W1LL W1N C4UZ H3 IZ FR0M TEH 5QU4R3!!111!11shift!!”, let me tell you something, Sin is not a “Sephiroth” or a “Kefka”. We’ve seen lesser known FF characters lose before, and I would classify Sin as one of those. Heck, I haven’t played a single FF game, yet I know about Cloud, Aeris, Seph, Tidus, Yuna, Kefka, etc, yet I didn’t know of Sin until this Contest. Sure, I know I’m probably in the minority there, but it still says that Sin is not a huge FF name here. A win is not guaranteed for Square. In fact, I’m giving this match to Dr. Robotnik. He’s very well known, as he has been around for over a decade. Even if you don’t like the recent turn his character has made…I AM THE EGGMAN!!!, people are still going to vote for him for the Robotnik factor. Old-school Robotnik owned, and as long as that can bring him votes, along with other votes from Sonic fans, he should be able to take down Sin (Not Shenron for you GT fans).

As obvious as it may seem to go with Robotnik in this, I actually see it going in the other direction. Sin may be weaker than the weakest FFX character to have appeared in these contests (Yuna), but I don't see Robotnik coming close to Tails, either. And since Yuna is > Tails as it is, it's tough to see Robotnik doing much damage in this match. He may make it close, but this may play out as Tidus/Shadow close, rather than actually BEING close. Something just strikes me odd about Robotnik doing well for whatever reason, and if this thing comes down to Sonic vs FFX, he has even less of a chance.

Prediction: Sin with 50.79%



Soul’s Analysis

This, is by far, my hardest match to predict for. In fact, I think I changed the winner of this match three times in the last 2 hours. I have no clue who to pick really. Both sides have good arguments and
points about why they're going to win.

Robotnik is a legend. He stars in the Sonic series, a series that once was claimed to be better than Mario's series. He is the main antagonist of the series. Of course, I'm sure you guys already knew that. He also got the three seed, and was predicted to get a 1 seed before the bracket was shown. Does that mean he's one strong competitor?

Sin, on the other hand, is from FFX. He's a big blob of mass, basically. FFX was the only FF game that I have played. It was pretty interesting. My friend, who owns the game, told me that Sin is a really cool boss and will easily destroy Robotnik. Of course, this friend also failed Religion twice in a row, so take his advice for what it's worth… However, FFX is still a very strong game on this website. Tidus can defeat some solid competition on this site. Hell, he even defeated Shadow. Auron is quite strong too. But, Sin does not share the same strength, I believe. Look at him. He's a freaking blob of mass!

Then again, this is GameFAQs. I could make the main character of a FF game trip on a Coke can, and the Coke can would be able to beat half the competitors in the contest. Yeah, that's not true, I know. Anyway, as of right now, I have Sin winning. This match could go either way though. He'll win with 50.02% of the vote.



Outback’s Analysis

My name isn't Robutt!

Another match that is one of the most debated matches in this contest, and this time, it *gasp* deserves the hype! This will be the only close match in Round 1. And after being force to eat my words yesterday on my horrible CATS prediction, I'm not going to get overconfident on this one.

HOWEVER, I can say that I am confident that Robotnik will win. Sin never striked me as an epic villain, and his match pic certainly doesn't strike me as epic. I know Robotnik isn't exactly epic either, but he doesn't need to be. Sin has only appeared in one game; he has no legacy. He's not classic. Robotnik has been around since the beginning, and although he's undergone a name change, I'm positive he'll be around for years to come.

That being said, I think the more colorful of the two whales featured here will win, albeit in a close one due to the FF Mania on this site.

Well, there has been some talk on the board of Sin beating Robotnik based on the Final Fantasy Factor or FFF. Well…I’m here to say that there is no ****ing way in hell that will happen. Robotnik is from Sonic, a classic character with a lot of history behind him, while Sin is new, from Final Fantasy X, not to be confused with Final Fantasy X-2, which is garbage.

Now…in 2003, Knuckles of the Sonic universe faced Yuna, from FFX. Yuna is easily the third most popular character from her game, mainly due to the boost of its sequel. Knuckles defeated her, sending the blue-eyed…green-eyed…some combination-eyed girl packing. And in 2004, Shadow the Hedgehog went toe to toe with Tidus, the hero of FFX, nearly eliminating him. Sin is nowhere near the level of Yuna or Tidus, and Robotnik could easily be as high as Tails.

This talk of Master Hand actually winning this match is insane. Master Hand is a glove. A GLOVE! A goddamned GLOVE. I'm aware that SSBM beat FFX in the Spring 2004 Contest, and I'm aware that FF9 ranks 5th on GameFAQs in terms of the most popular FF title, but if any character loses to a glove, they need to kill themselves. Seriously.

Ok, I guess this match can be considered hard for some people. Master Hand comes from two great games. Those two games being SSB and SSBM. Kuja comes from FF9. Some people think that this match is the hardest of the first round. I don't think so.

The winner of this match will be Kuja. Although Master Hand is in two of my favorite games, you have to realize something. The Smash Brothers series is played for its awesome multi-player. That being said, Kuja might not be as known as everyone thinks, but he is from a FF game. In fact, if you remember the nomination period, the top three FF Villains that were predicted to make this contest were Seph, Kefka and Kuja. Having Kuja win this match is pretty safe, in my opinion.

All in all, this match ends a great first round. Kuja will win this with about 57% of the vote.

Outback’s Analysis

I can't think of anything witty here...

Could we end the first round with two interesting battles? Doubtful. However, this match is without a doubt the most enigmatic of the contest. The only thing we have to gauge Kuja's strength on is Vivi. First of all, Vivi isn't even the main char of FFIX. Second of all, the range between hero and villain is different from each game. Kuja could be as strong or stronger then Vivi, or he could be more of a Protoman or a Jak. We just don't know.

The same thing goes for Master Hand as well, except that we don't even have another character from the same game to base him off. The only thing related to him in any contest so far is SSB:M, which was a division winner. Can Hand win a division? Not likely. But can he win a match? Very possibly, but I still like Kuja in a close one.

Anyway, Master Hand is from the final 4 game, Super Smash Brothers: Melee. Kuja is from Final Fantasy 9, the weakest of the new school FFs. Kuja, looks like a girl in a thong. Master Hand…is a hand…that master*is shot*

Master Hand, in theory, could be a strong force in this match, but I just think that Gamefaqs has a little more sense than to give a win to a character that is barely villainous whatsoever. Kuja may not be that popular, but he does have the Final Fantasy name, which could work in his favor against a character like Master Hand. Remember, SSB:M helps characters that fight in it, but not its own characters.

Anyway, on with this match. Before the Contest, some people were discussing a possible Sigma over Bowser upset. Of course they were just trying to find the one risk that would pay off big over the end. Like Starcraft, or Sora, even Link in 2002 AND 2004 to a certain extent. Well, when Round 1 actually rolled around, and the first two matches took places, those people were silenced. Bowser’s impressive performance + Sigma’s meh performance = No upset for you. Bowser takes this one easily.

As foregone as it may be to think that Bowser has this locked up, I wouldn't be surprised if Sigma makes a game of it. I doubt he'll win, but given how close Mega Man is to Mario, Sigma coming close to Bowser wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world. It would be a shock if he flat-out won, but I doubt he will. Bowser being the first character on the brackets tells me that he got more nominations than anyone else, so his bracket support will be there in the event of this being tough for him.

Prediction: Bowser with 53.24%



Soul’s Analysis

After the first round, we witnessed many close matches, huge victories, and even some surprises. Can Round 2 be the same? Well, starting the round, we have the Koopa king himself, Bowser, taking on Sigma, a robot from the Megaman X series. Well, to tell you the truth, this match isn't up in the air at all. Bowser will win this one somewhat easily. I'm guessing he'll get in the 62.35% range.

Sigma gave a pretty unimpressive performance in Round 1 vs. Andross, but he still won. He got as far as anybody was expecting him to go, but this match vs. Bowser should be a good gauge of his strength and/or his worth to be in a future summer contest. There is really no chance that Sigma can win here; by this point I'd say it's a fair assumption that Bowser has his division wrapped up.

Seriously, Sigma had trouble with a character from STARFOX. Bowser got the second biggest (and most undeserving) victory of the contest thus far. Anyway, this’ll be my first analysis with only one paragraph, because there’s not enough to make a second paragraph. Oh well…

Que a match! Kuja started out with the lead, and built up a small, but decent 400 vote lead. Then at about 9 AM CST, Master Hand kicked in, and Kuja got his ass HANDed to him. I mean, it was a total spanking. Master Hand owned the day vote like no other before. He pulled in so many votes, he came back from being down 400, and got an over 5,000 vote lead in less than 12 hours. It was simply amazing. It was a big bracket buster too. Only about 40% of the brackets got it right. It brought the perfects down to 49, and a lone 0 bracket was left. Insane...

Today, Bowser is owning Sigma. Seriously, it's ugly out there on the poll.

Well, well, well, how the tides have turned in this match. Let’s take a quick flashback to before the Contest, those not-so-good ol’ days.

~Transition Scene~

When the brackets came out, some matches obviously received more attention than others. One of those matches that got more was Ocelot/Wily. Now sure, this match wasn’t until Round 2, but who cares? We all knew it was going to happen. Now I thought I was being cool, putting Ocelot over Wily. What a rebel I was. Turned out that’s where a majority of the board went too. Shucks for me. In fact, Ocelot over Wily wasn’t even referred too as an upset anymore. People were calling Ocelot with 70%+ on Nemesis, while Wily wouldn’t be so hot against Ultros. People agreed (well, besides HM) and all was good. Now the Contest begins…

~End Transition Scene~

Sigma, the first MM representative in this Contest, had just tanked against Andross. As you should have expected, people linked that directly to Wily, saying that he would flop as well. Then Ocelot/Nemesis comes rolling in and…oh ****. Nemesis was doing extremely well, receiving 45% of the vote against Ocelot. The same Ocelot that was supposed to take down Wily next Round. But if Wily was stronger than Nemesis, then how is he going to do that?

The Ocelot fans had to come up with something quick, and they did. A simple Nemesis underestimation was what that was. It made some sense too, seeing that Nemesis was a pretty major character in RE3. Maybe he really was stronger than we expected. At least Wily wasn’t doing much bette…oh wait, he WAS doing better. Right after Ocelot’s match, we had Wily’s match, and he was kicking butt. We might have known that Ultros was not going to be very strong, but we also expected this to be a somewhat closer match, especially after Sigma failed earlier on. In just 48 hours, people went from total confidence with Ocelot over Wily, to wanting to go back in time and changing their “upset” pick.

I’m not going to lie to you either, I’m not confident right now with Ocelot over Wily in my bracket. Now does that mean I think Wily will win? No, I’m just saying that Ocelot isn’t looking as hot as he did before the Contest, and now Wily has evened the playing field in this match. I’m still sticking with Ocelot in my predictions though. It looks just about even with the two stats-wise, possibly even Wily having the slight advantage, but I believe in a direct match-up between the two, Ocelot will barely beat him out.

I simply can't see how Ocelot could possibly lose.

Probably the most hyped second round match. Wily came off an impressive 64.03% win over Ultros. Ocelot struggled against Nemesis, but managed to win with 54.66%.

Before the contest started, people were saying that Ocelot had this match in the bag. Now, after seeing the scores from Round 1, those same people are doubting Ocelot. I'm here to tell you to fear not, Ocelot will still win this match, for one, major reason.

Ultros is weak. Yes, you already know that. But do you know to what extent he is weak? Let me remind you all that he is from FFVI, the same game that Kefka is from. Not only that, but he is a minor villain to boot. We all know Kefka is nowhere near elite level in this contest. In fact, he is somewhat weak. Since Kefka is the main villain, Ultros would be a lot weaker than him.

Wily got 64% against him. That score proves either Ultros is a strong character, or that Wily slipped. I'm thinking the latter.

So, Wily struggled somewhat against a weak Ultros. Now, why didn't someone as strong as Ocelot get a better score against Nemesis? Well, Resident Evil is quite popular on GameFAQs. Nemesis was the lead villain for RE2, considered the best RE game before RE4. Of course he was going to be strong. He was underrated a lot, while Ocelot was a little bit overrated.

Nonetheless, Ocelot should still take this match. Ocelot wins with 52.34%



Outback’s Analysis

Can Wily do to Ocelot what he never could do to Mega Man?

This match makes me extremely happy. With my bracket screwed by my lack of checking my bracket (left Andross over Sigma) and a pick of Kuja over Hand, I can just sit back and watch the carnage. It's a win-win situation for me. Ocelot wins and my bracket is happy; Wily wins and the part of me that loves Mega Man is happy.

Anyway, to my opinions on the match. For Ocelot, either Nemesis is strong or Ocelot is weak (at least weaker then some of us expected). I'm willing to bet that it's a little bit of both. I'm assuming Ultros is weak; Kefka is not exactly a power performer and Ultros has nowhere near the influence in FFVI tha Kefka does. Here is how I would place this four pack on the 2004 SFF-Adjusted XStats. This is based on where I place the < b>< i>LOSERS< /i>< /b> of the matches.

Well…last round, Ocelot failed to double Nemesis, a character from the rather unpopular Resident Evil series here at Gamefaqs. Wily…failed to double Ultros…but got about 10 percent about 10% higher on a Final Fantasy character than Ocelot got on a Resident Evil character. Now, Ocelot still has a chance…albeit small, but I think that Wily will win this one, even without the board votes, because Megaman always beats Metal Gear Solid.

After Round 1, things were not looking good for Revolver. He has barely beaten Nemesis, and Wily had squashed Ultros. Then this match comes along, and puts the pieces of the puzzle together. WHo would have thought before the Contest that Wily was only a hair stronger than Nemesis? Ocelot beat them both by around the same margin, so...I guess we'll have to go with that. Almost half the brackets had Ocelot winning his four-pack.

This. Divison. Sucks.

After Liquid's absolute pasting of Tenpenny and Lavos's unimpressive performance against Mother Brain, the outcome of this match is pretty obvious, as it was before the contest. The only real productive thing I can see coming out of this match is placing Lavos and Mother Brain on the X-Stats, and perhaps getting a ballpark estimate for Ridley through MB. Anyway, Liquid dominates.

Well…Lavos had his first match, a match that took CJayC off the top 50 leader board. That match was a match of complete fodder, much like Vergil vs. Ghaleon. Liquid Snake however, nearly quadrupled a character from Gamefaqs’ Game of the Year, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Honestly, Liquid has a chance to perform on par with Sephiroth in this match, even though Lavos got a WAY better picture.

Liquid is gonna make himself some turtle soup, and it’ll actually taste good, unlike the crap Sephy’ll be making in the final 4.

My Prediction: Liquid Snake with 59.72%

Wesker, who faced Luca last round, didn’t beat him by a good enough margin. Folks, Luca is bottom of the barrel fodder, and Wesker didn’t even break 60% on him. If I calculated right, Luca wouldn’t even get 30% on Kefka in 2004.

Now, I thought Wesker over Kefka was a silly upset pick to begin with, but now that risk isn’t even looking like it’s possible. Congrats Kefka, you somehow managed to get to the finals of your division.

I'd love to make this a long writeup, but thanks in part to my laziness, my fatigue, my lack of reliable internet access, and Wesker's absolute choke job against Luca Blight, this can be summed up
very easily.

Yes, Kefka stunk it up against Mithos. But Wesker stunk it up far worse against Blight. If you compare the two performances, Kefka is projected to get something like 60% in this match. I don't think he'll get that much given his knack for telling the Xsts to go and screw themselves in all of his matches (when has Kefka EVER done what he was supposed to do?), but the odds of Wesker pulling this thing off are next to zero. Kefka may be a weak bastard, but he's in a division of rats and slugs. He can manage.

Prediction: Kefka with 57.36%

Another match that is being somewhat hyped. For what reason, I don't know. Kefka is a weak number 1 seed. Before the contest, Wesker probably had a shot of defeating him. But after seeing both first round matches, Kefka looks stronger than Wesker. Expect the over-seeded Kefka to win with 54%.

This match is one that was debated before the contest even started. How strong is Mithos? How strong is Wesker? Did Luca get RPGSFF agains Magus (also, wtf at this)? Well, after Kefka's not-dominating-but-certainly-not-weak peformance against Mithos and Wesker's lackluster performance against who I think is a much weaker opponent, the pick is easy for me. Even without my bias towards Kefka...

Well…this is the first match that I’ve had to predict against my bracket in this contest. I, sadly, had Wesker winning this match. But after his performance against Luca Blight, I think it’s safe to say that his chances of making it to the next round are no more than 20%. Kefka may be weak as hell, but Wesker is just weaker sadly. It sucks such total ass that this match up is going to turn out the way it will…but, there’s nothing I can do about it.

If Wesker does win, it doesn’t really matter, since I had Ridley in the final 4 and Kuja in the sweet 16.

After Ryu “upset” KOS-MOS, how could anyone not see this coming?

Diablo - The Spanish representative in the Contest.

The most hyped match of the Contest is a dud! Diablo trounces Ridley

Alright Diablo, you might have gotten past Ridley, but that was only your first step through the fire, now you have to deal with M. Bison, who is looking very good right now. Can you do it Diablo? Can you pull a Starcraft on this division? We’ll see…we will see.

Since this is the first actual toss-up match that’s we’ve had in a while, let’s do some hardcore analyzing. M. Bison is from the Street Fighter series, and Diablo is from the…wait for it….Diablo series. Now both series are huge, but I am going to go with the Street Fighter series. I believe it is more mainstream and more popular on GameFAQs than Diablo is. C’mon, who doesn’t love there Ryu or Ken? Speaking of those two, they’ve been in Contests in the past. Ryu is the strongest out of the bunch. He’s actually one of the strongest non-Noble Nine (bet it’s been a while since you’ve heard that term) characters in the Contests. Ken is also pretty decent, and Bison hopes to follow in that trend.

So, should we go with M. Bison or go with Diablo? The choice is up to you and your preference. It’s hard to compare these two directly using the stats. The only thing we have is little hints and clues about where this match could go. In Round 1, Bison clobbered Albedo. Now Albedo must be nowhere near KOS-MOS in strength, but the gap between her and Ryu is much smaller than the one between Bison and Albedo. Diablo is much more tricky though, because he had no clue where Ridley is on the map, and we still don’t. The match between the two only showed than Diablo is stronger than Ridley. Even Mother Brain isn’t helping out too much in placing Ridley. Lavos was actually much stronger than we though, making MB stronger too. So MB could be stronger than Ridley in strength, when most assumed he was going to be weaker.

One last thing we can look at is this 2003 poll. Samus vs. KOS-MOS. Samus almost managed 70% against KOS-MOS back then, and could possibly manage to get even more now thanks to her boost in 2004. Now that is quite the gap between Samus and KOS-MOS, and just imagine the gap between KOS-MOS and Albedo. Now M. Bison, Ridley and Diablo will all fall somewhere in between that gap…but where you ask? I have no clue.

Ok…let’s try and wrap this thing up. Right now, the stats point to a Bison victory. His numbers against Albedo were just to incredible to look past. Sure, Albedo could be weak, but we already knew that Xenosaga had a following with KOS-MOS, so Albedo couldn’t be…THAT weak. Using stats to try and find Diablo as well could take you in a bunch of different directions. BUT, if you went with Diablo over Ridley, you would probably go with Diablo here again. Meh, it’s your call here. Both could be powerhouses, both could be duds, hopefully everything will be settled later.

As much as I'd love to rant and rave about this match, I doubt that it will be all that close. If Lavos is as strong as Liquid Snake would like us to think, M. Bison is in some friggen trouble here. Either Diablo is a powerhouse, or Liquid, Lavos, Ridley, and Mother Brain all completely suck. Dunno about anyone else, but it makes more sense to assume something about one character being strong than it does four characters being weak.

Another hyped match. Bison almost got 70% on a weak Albedo. Diablo defeated Ridley with 57.65%. Now, the question is, where do Albedo and Ridley lie?

Without a doubt, Ridley is stronger than Albedo. We know that. I think he would have to get 61% on Albedo to give Diablo a shot. Hmm…

The closest we have to this match is with other characters from their respected games. Mother Brain got 44% on Lavos, Chrono Trigger's main villain (Magus not included). KOS MOS would get 34.10% against Samus, according to the adjusted 2004 X-Stats. Give or take a few since Samus has a new DS game coming out.

If those scores would go over to the villains, Ridley would get 66.90 against Albedo. Give or take a few since the conversions would not be exact.

So, Ridley could get 60%+ on Albedo. So, all that's left is the actual match at question, Diablo Vs. Bison.

Let's look at some outside factors for a moment. E3 would have happened weeks before this match. If the rumored Diablo 3 would be revealed, the fan base would go nuts. They would begin hanging around sites such as Diabloii.net, searching for updates about the game. Imagine, if diabloii.net linked to GameFAQs during that match. How much of a boost would Diablo get? That, of course, is not counting the relatively small boost from B.net or the boost from GameFAQs as well.

I'm thinking Diablo could take this match after all this. I'm predicting around 54.67%. Thus ending the Ruin division for this round.

Round 2... FIGHT!

What I don't understand about this match is why everybody is assuming that Ridley is going to be some sort of power, even by this contest's standards. Ridley is unimpressive in all the games I've seen him in. It's a big black dragon - who really gives a ****? I really don't consider a 58-42 win over Ridley to be that impressive for Diablo. Meanwhile, Bison is riding Street Fighter into the second round and rode Street Fighter to a 68-32 win over Albedo - more than everybody expected. Granted, Albedo probably isn't that strong, but I seriously think Ridley is severely overrated. I seriously don't care how strong Mother Brain is - she's a featured villain, and thus should be stronger than Ridley. I'm basing this pick on Ridley being weak as ****, and I'm gonna go with Bison.

Second match I’ve had to predict against my bracket, but this time, it’s simply because the character I had winning is gone. Diablo beat a Nintendo character, and my personal favorite of the Nintendo villains. He was never really in doubt of winning either. You can say he got help from outside sources (which I know he did) but the fact remains, those outside sources did help him win. And they are already planning on doing it again in this match. M. Bison scored a blowout…against Albedo, a villain that’s highly obscure, and from an RPG that is not from Square.

This match, I think will be close, and it could go either way. I’m gonna go with the hopeful possibility that my third favorite in this division comes out on top.

My Prediction: Diablo with 52.17%

Yeah, Ganondorf is gonna win this one. It’s pretty obvious. Ansem is from a game that gets a huge amount of hate on this site, and he struggled with a joke character, CATS. I realize CATS has a huge fanbase (undeservingly), but come on, Ansem should’ve done better than that.

Ganondorf’s gonna move on after this match, and is the best hope of someone defeating Sephiroth. “It makes me wanna…wanna…volunteer at the soup kitchen. Come Ganny.”

It was close early. Bison had the lead, and Street Fighter fans rejoiced. A couple hous later though, Diablo was hot on his tail, and passed up Bison. Diablo then pulled a Master Hand and kept on expanding his lead. In the end, he won by almost 5,000 votes. Now Diablo has to face Kefka, in what could be his toughest match yet.

Today, Ganondorf isn't performing as strongly as most expected, but it is still a decent performance.

Well, what a match we have here. The legendary Robotnik takes on the gloved and dangerous Master Hand. Now, most didn’t even expect MH to get into Round 2. There was no way he was getting past Kuja, but he did, and in impressive fashion too. Now the Hand has to get past Robotnik. Can it happen?

Well, I, for one, thought Kuja was going to win his four-pack, but I was dead wrong. The same scenario happened in the Ruin division with Ridley too. I had him winning his division, but I was wrong. I only had Kuja winning his first 2 matches. With the Ridley situation, I went with Diablo, and it looks like I was right. Should I go with the Hand as well here?

Don’t get me wrong, Robotnik can win this match, but so can Master Hand. Robotnik also had to get past a Final Fantasy villain. But who do you think is stronger, Sin or Kuja. If this were game strength, I know FFX > FF9, but since this is the characters, I would say Kuja would beat Sin in a match. So I’d put Master Hand over Robotnik.

I expect Robotnik to get the early lead, but if Master Hand can pull another day-vote raping like he did against Kuja, this match is his. Sega is pretty good with the day vote, but Master Hand is looking like that day vote is all going to him.

Cena’s Analysis

Robotnik, or Eggman to you new-school gamers, is underrated. You see him on Sonic X, getting his ass kicked day in and day out like some sort of *****, and you think to yourselves, "This balding fatass actually beat Sin?". There's a reason he beat Sin. Not just because Final Fantasy X was boring enough to not keep your attention to get to a good battle with Sin, but because, simply put, Dr. Ivo Robotnik is one bad mother******. I don't know what else to say about the man. It wasn't just Sonic that made the series amazing, it wasn't Tails' flamboyant personality that made you feel more open about yourselves, and it wasn't because Rouge was one hot slut; it was because this evil dude in red and black gave you nightmares only acid could top. If you weren't a little boy dreaming about Robotnik slicing you in half, then you're not worthy enough to play a Sonic the Hedgehog game.

Now, I guess I shouldn't count out Master Hand on this. I mean, he did manage to beat Kuja more convincingly than Robotnik beat Sin. Rest assured, though, that it won't mean much. Master Hand is definitely not as known, nor as popular. Master Hand is a pushover, and not meant to be taken seriously as a villain. Sure, I like how lightning comes magically out of his fingertips. I like how he can move without being physically attached to a forearm. Here's the thing, though. I like Robotnik more, and so will 70% of the masses (at least).

My god, I hate and love this four-pack. Yes, my perfect bracket is completely ruined. I had Sin > Kuja, but both of them got eliminated in round 1. Lost my perfect, lost my zero. But God, I love upsets. Especially when they involve people I know and love.

Dr. Robotnik, who doesn't know him? My three favorite series ever are the Mario series, LoZ series and Sonic series. Now, I admit that Sonic's venture into 3D land wasn't the best, but I don't care. Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 for Genesis are 2 games in my top 10. Those games are extremely fun, and I love every character in those games.

Master Hand is in the Super Smash Bros. series, another series that I love. I like Crazy Hand better, but Master Hand will suffice.

Who's going to win this match? I'm going to say Master Hand. It looks like he has the SSB votes, which will boost him really well.

The victor of the match will be… Dr. Robotnik by 51.21%. I think the four-pack will be like this. Robotnik > M. Hand > Sin > Kuja. My proof? FFX > FFIX on this site. Robotnik is much more known than anyone in this four pack, so he will be on top. Now, that only leaves Sin and Master Hand. This could probably go either way, but SSBM already beat FFX in the Spring Contest last year, so I'm guessing M. Hand will be stronger.

Holy crap! The FF chars didn't win!

This is a match not many people saw coming, although I admit I had it in my bracket originally and then changed it to Robotnik/Kuja, so needless to say I'm a bit mad. And I'll be even madder if MH pulls it out here, because I had that too. As I've said earlier, though, my bracket's already finished, especially with Bison's loss yesterday. However, I'm still pretty confident in Robotnik here. Why people think that Sin, from FFX, a game that got 49.06% against SSBM, would be worse than Kuja, who is from FFIX, a game that failed to make it into the contest and is utterly unremarkable according to favorite polls here. It's not that it's hated, just not enough people played it. Due to that, I think Robotnik will beat Master Hand.

And the third time this round I think I might have to pick against my bracket. Robotnik had difficulty beating Sin, a character not well known in his respective game. Yet Sin managed to get about 48% of the vote. Master Hand was an extreme underdog in his match, yet triumphed over a much more recognizable villain, from a less recognizable game.

This match could easily be dead even; more so than Ridley/Diablo was hyped to be. On the one hand, we have Robotnik, a veteran of video gaming, and one of the earliest villains, alongside Bowser and Donkey Kong. But age doesn’t mean anything, as Wily was recently dominated by the hand gesture. On the other hand…*realizes I inadvertently made a pun* we have Master Hand, from a very popular game on this site. But, his non-villainous-ness could easily work against him the same way it worked against Sin.

My Prediction: Dr. Robotnik with 50.67%

I'll just post it right in the topic. It's short, anyway.

This is the first fourpack in contest history that I've ever gotten completely wrong, and thus, the first second round match in contest history that I don't care about. I am rooting for and voting for Master Hand, but I have no real proof of what will happen either way. From an unbiased view, it's very difficult to think that Kuja is stronger than Sin given the large popularity gap between FFIX and FFX, and thus, Robotnik shouldn't realistically have much of a problem here. Doesn't mean I'm not rooting for him to lose, though.

This match should answer where these three lie in comparasion to the SC2K4 characters. It might also show if Bowser past 2 blow-out victories were flukes, or signs of a new power.

Third round action, brought to you by GameFAQs. This round begins with DA KOOPA KING, aka Bowser, squaring off against Revolver Ocelot. Bowser just came away from a whopping 78.07% against Sigma, while Ocelot surprised us with a 54.51% win over Dr. Wily. Poor Megaman villains, can't catch a break.

Well, the only way Bowser could lose is if Ocelot was ranked higher than Liquid Snake, who arguably is ranked too high to begin with. Do you believe that? I don't. Bowser will take this match rather easily. I'm expecting a 67.45% win.

Bowser owned Sigma, a weaker Megaman character, but Bowser owned Sigma harder than Wily.

There’s a slight chance of Ocelot’s victory, but honestly, Gamefaqs is a site filled with rabid Nintendo fanboys. Bowser has this in the bag, once again, sadly, as Ocelot is just below Pyramid Head in coolness.

Gah, I could've been one of those brackets if I didn't make a last second Kuja over Robotnik switch. Oh well, my bracket's already dead anyway. Robotnik easily takes care of Master Hand. It was still an interesting match though. Robotnik had near 66% in the early hours, but Master Hand once again dominated the day vote and brought the percent in the match all the way down to 59%. That's pretty impressive. Of course, the lead still increased slowly.

So were Liquid’s 2004 numbers, actually inflated thanks to Frog? Does this also affect Chief, Frog and Solid? Liquid is projected to get 35.29% on Sephiroth, so I wonder how he’ll do compared to that.

As I said earlier in my analysis', Liquid Snake received the worst placement in this contest. A strong competitor is forced to play fodder to Sephiroth in third round.

Liquid came off a somewhat disappointing win over Lavos. His match was filled with controversy. Is Liquid too high on the X-Stats? Was Lavos really that strong? Was Mother Brain stronger then Ridley, or is Diablo a really strong character in this contest? All this and many more were asked because of his match.

Sephiroth, on the other hand, came off another blowout victory over Vergil. But, surprisingly, Vergil broke 21%, which is a plus for some of his fans.

The match will be just another Sephiroth match, really. Sephy wins with 64.62%.

He’s like Master Hand, only weaker, as he showed, struggling with Mother Brain. And yet, he managed to keep Liquid Snake fewer than 60% in his match. How is that even possible?

Well, at least I like both character in this match, hence, I won’t be pissed off at the outcome. FUFUFUFUFUFUFUFUFUFUFU >_> PIRATE RACCOON AWAY! *flies off*

Well, Diablo “upsets” another of his opponents. Looks like that training from StarCraft is paying off. But now, he is going to attempt something that not even StarCraft could do. He is going to try to win his division. Sounds like a tough task, but there isn’t an SSB:M standing in his way like there was with StarCraft. No, this time, the opponent is…..Kefka!!!

Diablo hasn’t had a break thus far. From Ridley, to Bison, and now Kefka, and possibly Ganondorf/Robotnik next (trying to be technical here folks, so I have to include them both). But let’s focus on Diablo’s task at hand here. Kefka scored only 64% on Mithos. Now at the time, we thought that Kefka’s score was horrible. He was showing that he was weak. But then in Round 2, Kefka blows us all away by putting up over 70% on Wesker, who had beaten Luca in the previous round 60-40. This win would throw Kefka up at Dante level…..DANTE LEVEL. That is wrong on some many levels! So either Luca’s stats are messed up, or Kefka is actually a lot stronger than he looks.

Speaking of people being a lot stronger than they look, we STILL don’t know where Diablo’s strength is. Nothing was answered against Ridley, nothing was answered against Bison. Now, we may finally get some hints and answers about where Diablo, and the rest of his four-pack, lie. Basically, this match is a stronger-looking Kefka vs. the unknown Diablo. Another toss-up match in this evil division.

This is one of the first ever late round matchups in which we have no clue what's going to happen beforehand. In the entire Ruin Division, only Luca Blight has been in one of these contests before, and he's nothing but a joke. You can throw all the numbers you wish at this match, but truthfully, there's little if any case that can be made for either character's chances. The only real given we have is that Kefka likely has a minor bracket support advantage, but that's negligible at best. Bison had the brackets behind him against Diablo, and look what happened.

Both characters are fairly strong, and we have no idea what's going to happen. You can't beat matches like that. As for who I think will win, I'm just making a pure guess. Truthfully, I have no idea.

Soul’s Analysis

Got to love Diablo. Three high profile matches in a row. He overcame tough competition in Ridley first round and even tougher in M. Bison in the second round. Now, he looks to fight FFVI's main villain Kefka in the Ruin Division Finals. Just want to say that even though my bracket it ruined because of Sin and Kuja, I had this match already in mind as Diablo's toughest challenge. Not once have I thought that Diablo was weaker than Ridley or M. Bison.

Enough about my showboating and let's get on with the match. Kefka came off a very, very impressive win against Wesker last round. Diablo came off another impressive win over Bison.

Let's begin by looking at their opponents on the way here. Kefka performed horribly against Mithos, but then shocked us all with a blowout win against Wesker. Diablo was supposed to lose to Ridley, but managed to win. He then had a 50/50 shot against Bison, but beat him with over 2000 votes. So, I would say that Diablo has been more impressive throughout his fourpack.

Now, Kefka is ranked 34 in the stats. Right under Tails. Of course, being new to the contest, Diablo is not ranked yet. The question is, will you rank Diablo higher than Tails? I don't know about you, but I'd picture Diablo getting the win quite easily. So, if Diablo > Tails, then I believe that Diablo > Kefka.

Of course, the X-Stats aren't perfect, but I guess you have to use them sometimes. Anyways, Diablo wins with 52.34%.

I've heard a lot of people basically looking past this match already, and even a couple people asking if Diablo can beat Ganondorf. I really wish these people would wake up. You'd have to be an idiot to think that Diablo has a chance to beat Ganondorf, and thinking that Diablo beating Kefka is a foregone conclusion isn't exactly the smartest thing either. I like working with the XStats, and last night I did some work with them.

Albedo is not strong. We know this. The question is how weak he is. I believe that Albedo is around the 12.50 area, between Terry Bogard and Luca. With Albedo at 12.50, we see the following.

M. Bison: 19.80 on Link (Between Jill and V. Joe)
Diablo: 21.01 on Link (Between Kefka and Bomberman), 49.53 on Kefka
Ridley: 17.80 on Link (Between Protoman and Crash)

It's not that Kefka is that strong; it's that Bison/Diablo/Ridley are weak.

This is it…the final possibly interesting match of the contest. Oh well, it was good while it lasted. Actually, it wasn’t THAT good, but whatever. Anyway, thus far, Kefka delivered beat downs to weak cult characters (forgive me Wesker). The point is…he did well…but on characters that are weak as hell. Hell, he had trouble doing well on MITHOS. Anyway, Diablo has had two very close matches thus far against a Nintendo villain, and a Street Fighter villain, two fan bases that are relatively strong on Gamefaqs.

Anyway, the Blizzard factor is big in these tournaments, propelling Starcraft to the Elite 8, and now doing the same for Diablo. Anyway, normally, the Blizzard factor is outshined by the Square factor, and had this been anyone else (except the two first round Square losers) I would say Diablo would be out of luck. But remember…this if Kefka. Trouble beating Pacman Kefka. He’s just not THAT strong. Diablo winning means my alt only loses 4 points overall (from one four pack) and so, I’m rooting for him.

My Prediction: Diablo with 50.23%

Oh Sephiroth, you screw up the stats, bring in a huge number of votes, but most important, you destroy your opponents. Liquid was projected to get about 11% higher than this. Sephiroth puts Liquid at....dare I say it...in between Jill and Viewtiful Joe. Now THAT'S ugly! This also screws up the whole Frog/MC/Liquid/Solid thing. Could Liquid and Soild have all really declined even more than Link vs. Mega Man and Mega Man vs. Solid showed? Or is Sephiroth just a ***** who hates numbers?

Today, Kefka had the short lead at the beginning, but Diablo is putting on a repeat Bison performance and running away with the match right now.

This is probably going to be the least interesting match of the Final Four. We got to see where Ocelot’s trio ranked when he fought Bowser. Sephiroth made Liquid look extremely weak and way below where his 2004 value was. And Kefka vs. Diablo, as we all knew, was a fun one to watch. But now, we have Ganondorf and Robotnik. This is only going to show us where we can put Robotnik compared to the other Sonic characters, and where his four-pack would rank. Not too much, but meh. Ganondorf wins here with ease.

This match may be a little closer than expected earlier now; MH could be strong, Sin could be strong, Kuja could be strong. We really have no idea. If Ganon is as strong as he was in 2k3, Robotnik needs to be as strong as Sonic, and we know that isn't happening. If Ganon is as strong as is shown by CATS 2k4, then Robotnik needs to be more along Bowser's level. Either way, not happening.

Well…this is the round where we finally know the true strength of all competitors. Bowser struggled against Ocelot, while Sephiroth beat down Liquid Snake and Kefka vs. Diablo was relatively close. These matches can show exactly how strong each character will be next round. Anyway, Ganondorf will most likely be between Bowser and Sephiroth, perhaps directly in the middle.

Robotnik is most likely weaker than the other competitors in the final 8, with Kefka being a previous competitor, and Liquid having the same, with Ocelot topping him in strength. Anyway, Ganondorf will, once again, perform well and nearly on par with Sephiroth.

My Prediction: Ganondorf with 68.64%

Anyway, the rest of this Contest is going to be pretty boring, so don’t get your hopes up. It will also be very depressing. Bowser deserves to win this match, but he won’t cause Sephiroth is unstoppable to anyone except Link or Cloud. Yeah, Bowser will get destroyed unfortunately. I just hope GameFAQs still has enough decency to not let Bowser get doubled. But, after seeing what Seph did to Liquid, and remembering that Seph got 61.6% on Mario, the chances are slim to none. Then again, Bowser got 30% on Cloud in 2003, and that was in the year he won, so at least the chance is there.

Well, let’s play with some numbers.

An adjusted 2004 Bowser would get 34.05% on 2004 Seph (that’s good).
An un-adjusted 2004 Bowser would get 24.06% on 2004 Seph (that’s really bad).

Diablo will do somewhat well, but he won't even come close to winning this thing. Ganon was a pre-contest lock for the finals.

We're down to our second last match. Diablo, the upset demon from hell taking on Ganondorf, the blow-out pig from Gerudo. My God, does this match look good on paper or what? King of Blow-Out victories taking on the King of Upset victories. God, if this match didn't involve the second strongest villain, this could actually be very close.

Sadly, it does involve the second strongest villain though. After we saw Diablo defeat Kefka, we could say he is around Alucard's level, or just a few points off of it. Last year, in the Summer Contest, we saw what happened with Ganondorf/Alucard. Ganondorf defeated him with over 57%. Well, betting high for Diablo has payed off so far, so I'll do it again. I believe that Diablo will surprise us all. No, I'm not talking about a victory for the Lord of Terror. I'm going with a smaller surprise, something like over-performing on Ganondorf. So, I'm thinking Ganon will win with 54% of the vote. Low, indeed, but I think the Blizzard vote can pull through.

We all saw what Ganon did to Robotnik. An absolute < i>PASTING.< /i> Can Ganon do the same to Diablo? Probably not, but this match will not be in question at all.

Ah…if matches go how most people expect them to, then I will have a bracket with only 4 points off. Pity my other one had Wesker making it to Kefka’s spot, and Ridley making it to where Diablo now stands. Anyway, Bowser recently did a damn good job standing up to the power of Sephiroth, and as the XStats say (who really cares about them after the Liquid/Sephy match) Ganondorf if stronger than Bowser. Diablo may have been able to beat some strong competitors to get this far, but Ganondorf is an actual challenge. I doubt that all the BNet and diabloii.net support in the world could save the devil now.

Side note, with Bowser finally eliminated, I know longer physically want one of the characters to be eliminated. Diablo, Ganondorf, and Sephiroth are all awesome in my book.

And that’s how we got here. The final match. Now unfortunately I won’t be able to do a 2-page write-up on the final match like last time, because this is a whole lot easier to predict. BUT, I will try to drag this out as long as I can. So be prepared to read a bunch of useless, crammed up info that you already probably know, just stated again by me to drag this analysis out. I mean, it is the last analysis of mine you’ll have to read for…a few months. I know, I’m sad too.

All right, when this Contest was announced, most of us could already see that Sephiroth was going to win it all. But deep down, I knew that I couldn’t look past another character. The only character, that was eligible for this Contest, that could possibly take Seph down. That was my character, Ganondorf. I saw it all. All that had to happen was Ganondorf had to get the support from all the LoZ fans, Nintendo fans and just about everyone else. Seph already had the huge FF support behind him, so things were looking great for him.

Then the bracket is announced, and from Day 1, people were already calling Sephiroth/Ganondorf finals. Everyone was confident on that. So the Contest starts and…well, let’s break it up between the two characters.

Sephiroth had his own division, the Jenova division. It was possibly the easiest division to predict. Sephiroth had no challenges in his path. Ramirez? Pfft. Ramirez stepped up to Sephiroth and got owned, with Seph getting 83.7% of the votes. People were already claiming that this Seph is the same usual Seph we’ve seen in the Summer Contests. You know, the one that dominates his competition that’s not named Link and Cloud. Yeah, that one. Anyway, Round 2 rolls around, and we see Seph once again dominate. This time his opponent was Vergil. Now, Vergil didn’t seem too strong, but he was still able to get 21% on Seph. Now, maybe we didn’t think much of it then, but could this have possibly been the first sign of a weaker Sephiroth? Vergil couldn’t have been too strong, and Seph usually scores 80%+ on fodder, so what gives? Anyway, Round 3 rolled along, and boy did Seph shut us up. Almost 76% on Liquid Snake…LIQUID SNAKE! The same Liquid Snake that was supposed to be equal to Frog and Master Chief. The same Liquid Snake that was almost as strong as Solid. This Liquid Snake only got 24% against Sephiroth. Do you know where a 24% on Seph puts you in the X-stats? I can tell you it isn’t with Solid or Frog or Master Chief. Then, just when we thought Seph was looking unstoppable. Just when we thought Seph couldn’t mess up the numbers anymore, Round 4 happens, and Bowser arrives. Bowser, NOT ONLY goes head to head with Seph for the first 1000 votes, but he also scores 40%+ on Seph. For a character like Bowser to do that well against Seph; now that is unheard of. Bowser is the first non-Noble Nine character to score over 40% on a FF7 character. The only Noble Nine characters to get over 40% on Seph are Link, Cloud, Samus (2002) and Mega Man (2002). Not even Mario or Mega Man could get 40% in 2003. Our board was definitely happy about this. Sephiroth, heck, FF7 in general, was finally showing signs of weakness. Maybe it wasn’t the unstoppable force anymore. Maybe someone other than Link could finally beat Cloud or Seph. And even if Cloud is still strong as ever, at least Seph is looking a bit weaker. This match is Sephiroth’s final test. So far, he’s shown us that he doesn’t like the stats, by proving them useless against him. Is he stronger or weaker than he previously was? Ganondorf holds the answer. Speaking of the King of Evil, let’s go look at his division.

Ganondorf also had his own division, the Triforce division. We all know Ganon holds the Triforce of Power, and all he would show to his opponents here, is his power. In past Contests, we haven’t seen too much of Ganondorf, thanks to the crappy seed his always ends up with. Well, if he doesn’t get a good seed next Contest, people will certainly be pissed off. He definitely deserves one after his matches here. No more Round 2 losses to Magus and Link please! In Round 1, he opened up the biggest blowout of Round 1. He almost got 85% against Giygas, who is fodder. But that’s still impressive! You would expect someone like Link, Cloud or Seph to do that, but so far, we’ve already seen Bowser and Ganondorf do that. Round 2 would only make the Gerudo look better…or worse in some people’s opinions. Ansem had just come off a close match with…CATS. Yeah, I know it’s hard to believe, but CATS was actually looking like he was going to win. Anyway, after that god-awful performance, Ansem puts up over 25% against Ganondorf. Some were disappointed, but come on, we know Kingdom Hearts isn’t exactly weak here. Besides, Seph had a bad match, why can’t Ganon have one? Anyway, I still saw it as an impressive victory for Ganon. Round 3 rolled along, and boy, was it shocking. We all remember how bad Sonic 2 did against Super Mario World, right? Well, chalk up another bomb for the Sonic team. Robotnik almost let Ganon get 77% on him! That’s right, thanks to Robotnik, Sin, Master Hand and especially Kuja, all look like grade A crap. This leads me to believe that there might be some sort of Nintendo/Sega SFF of some sort, but that’s a different discussion for a different day. Let’s get back to business, shall we? Today, Ganondorf is looking to double Diablo, the upset wonder from the land of Ruin. That’s right, after hard fought matches with Ridley, Bison and Kefka, Diablo has to go up against Ganon. What does he show for it? A doubling…told ya the Ruin division was weak. At least they’re still going to end up looking better than Ganon’s own division…CATS ranking third is just crazy. So with Seph looking weaker and Ganondorf looking stronger, can we possibly have another huge upset on our hands?

I, for one, am hoping so. I’d love to see Ganondorf, my favorite character, beat a FF7 character and win a Contest. The chances are slim though. Seph might be looking vulnerable, but he’s still very strong. Ganon stands a small chance for the upset, but my hopes aren’t too up for it. I’m hoping Ganon can break 45%, but 40%+ would be fine with me. Now, I tried to stay un-biased and technical in this analysis, but it’s hard when it’s my favorite character and he’s in such a big match. Also…it seems that I was almost able to do a 2-page write up! I bet you weren’t expected that for something like Sephiroth vs. Ganondorf. Now come on folks, let’s try and get Ganon to do good, and soon we might see…Samus beating Seph. Mega Man, Mario, Crono, Snake, and Sonic… all beating Seph. Gordon Freeman you ask? Well…let’s not get carried away there.

Ah, peaceful Board 8, what am I thinking? As soon as the contest is over, we will be hit by the backlash. Numerous topics about why *Insert Villain here* should not have beaten *Insert Villain here*. This contest has seen its fair share of blowouts and upsets. Master Hand and Diablo, thanks for the memories. We've also seen a fair bit of close matches. Andross/Sigma, Ocelot/Nemesis, Lavos/M. Brain, Ridley/Diablo, Ansem/CATS, Robotnik/Sin, Ocelot/Wily, Bison/Diablo, Kefka/Diablo. All great matches. All surprising in one way or another. But now, we're down to one final match. The match that was expected to happen since the bracket was revealed. The two strongest 1 seeds in this contest will clash in a battle that will rival Mario/Crono 1. That will rival Starcraft/Wind Waker. That will rival Master Chief/Frog....

Who am I kidding, this match will be very predictable. Sephiroth was the heavy favorite from the start. In fact, the only characters that he ever lost too were Link and Cloud. Well, since neither of the two are in this contest, he was going to win it. Ganondorf is also a strong character, but he is nowhere near Sephiroth's level. Expect Sephy to win with 56% of the vote.

Well, there you have it folks. Another contest under wraps, another champion crowned. There's only one thing left to do.

I really really wish Ganondorf would win this. Really. Kefka should be here, but he's not. Ganon is my second favorite villain from this side of the bracket, and probably 4th or 5th ever. I really wish he could pull this off. But seriously, it's not going to happen. But is it possible that he makes it interesting? Very much so, looking at what Bowser did two days ago. We'll justhave to wait and see. I personally think it'll be close.

*Note, the following contains SPOILERS for FFVII*

The contest finals are upon us. What a glorious day. Sadly, only three characters have proven that they can face up to ANY kind of competition on this site, based on the percentages in even the third round matches. Now, for this analysis, I shall pay tribute to the great Mark Beiro, announcer of every televised Battlebots match up. *clears throat*

IN THE RED SQUARE TO MY LEFT…HE’LL IMPALE YOUR ON HIS LONG SWORD, THEN STAB YOU WITH HIS MASAMUNE! HERE IS…SEPHIROTH!!!!!!

AND IN THE BLUE SQUARE TO MY RIGHT…THIS LITTLE PIGGY WENT TO MARKET, THIS LITTLE PIGGY STAYED HOME, THIS LITTLE PIGGY HAD ROAST BEEF, THIS LITTLE PIGGY HAD NONE. AND THIS LITTLE PIGGY TOOK OVER THE ENTIRE KINGDOM OF HYRULE, THROWING IT INTO DARKNESS FOR SEVEN YEARS! HERE IS…GANONDORF!

Well…to get this far, Sephiroth blew past Ramirez in a huge blowout, topped only by two others in this contest. Then he beat Vergil, showing how pathetic the unknown DMC character was. In the division finals, Sephiroth put Liquid Snake in his place, destroying the 2004 XStats. Tsk tsk tsk. Stats aren’t always right after all. Finally, in the semis, Bowser was finally stopped by Sephiroth in a surprisingly close match. Close or not, doesn’t matter. All I can say is Arigato Sephy-san.

Ganondorf DID score the biggest blowout of the contest, and then continued on to beat Ansem in about a quadrupling and Robotnik by more than Ansem. Diablo, the golden 7 seed that won his division against all odds…was destroyed as well. Kefka really was one weak and pathetic character…I feel sorry for poor Wesker. Ganondorf had many round where he performed on par with Sephiroth or above him in the percentages.

Anyway, this match, before Bowser vs. Sephiroth…was going to be rather boring. After that match though…things could be quite interesting. Bowser, a weaker Nintendo character than Ganondorf (although, we can’t be too sure, due to the “SFF adjusted” stats) managed to avoid a complete embarrassment by Sephiroth (unfortunately). Ganondorf proved to be very powerful throughout the contest.

Even so, the only way I think Ganondorf can win this match is if the entire Zelda fanbase is behind him. And something tells me Ganondorf can’t get votes the way Link can.

My Prediction: Sephiroth with 55.12%

56.56% of the brackets had Ganondorf making it to the Finals.

Looks like quite a few people had Ganondrof falling to the winner of the Ruin division. So sad... Ganondorf trounces Diablo, and nearly doubles him. Lots of votes for the match too. Poor Ruin division.

Today, Ganon is doing a bit better against Seph than Bowser was. Still, both are very impressive performances from the Nintendo villians. Hopefully this shows that Seph could be taken down by a non-Link or Cloud character now...

There's still something unsettling about this villian contest. Something tells me the stats won't translate well with the regular summer contests.

CATS giving Ansem a run for his money...Bowser scoring 40% on Sephiroth - it just seems like several things have happened that wouldn't happen during the summer.

Or maybe things have just changed drastically over the winter. But the stats from this contest suggest strange things, like Bowser being stronger than Mario etc...

It'll be interesting to see how things play out in the summer character battle. Personally, I think that even if Sephiroth was left in, he'd face some big challenges for the winning title.

True, this has been one interesting Contest.

CATS over-performed heavily in his match IMO. CATS supporters saw a chance for CATS to win, and along with bracket votes, CATS did a pretty good job. And Mario scored 38% on Seph back in 2003, when Seph, along with all the other Square characters, received boosts thanks to KHF. I'm starting to think this boost is dying down. A small sign in 2004 was Link beating Cloud, when Cloud beat him the year before.

It seems that with the wearing-out of KHF, Seph is looking like he got hit hard. Cloud might have also become a bit weaker, but we won't find out until the next Contest.

And it ends like how 3/4ths of the brackets predicted it to. There was no one that was capable of taking Seph down, but Bowser and Ganon came surprisingly closer than expected. Looks like Seph has legitimately dropped between the years. Ganondorf was hanging around with Seph in the early hours, but Seph quickly pulled away. In a shock to most though, Ganondorf actually was winning the day vote at points in the match. Go Ganondorf! Now just get a good seed in the Summer Contest and lay ownage to all who face you.
